I was playing around with my setups the other day, and I realized that the large dungeon area that was meant to be a "basement" for a tavern-like space was instead looking like a city square. So I went with it, rearranged things slightly, and made several more, small structures. In the end, I was really happy with the results.

I have enough elements to do a slightly larger arrangement, but I'd need to get creative with the supports. I'm out of pillars at the moment, and NBS pieces. Still, I think this does a good job of showing how the regular DF floors can make great city streets, alleys, and plazas. Man, that mermaid fountain should really be used to greater effect in this thing...

I'd take more, but the lighting is against me. Still, the natural lighting does a decent job of making this look like a city street, I think...

L, you continue to amaze me with your setups! I will gleefully steal from you in setting up my layouts.

The use of the stone walls and doors for the ground level and the MBS for the upper sections is terrific.

Outstanding!

Agreed… L continues to take it up a notch! Unbelievably cool idea!

It’s a wonderful visual representation of what the narrow streets of a sprawling medieval city would be like… I love the dead-end ally with the bent-open grate. Could this be the entrance to the sewers? And home of a pack of C.H.U.D.’s?

Again Amazing L! Too Cool!

Thanks for sharing!

...and his camera eye is pretty darn good too! I love the shot with the archer seen through the window.

L, I think you may have missed your calling as a successful movie director, or the like! Thanks again for sharing your ideas and photos.

Thanks, guys! Glad you like it.

Here are some more shots, with some minor changes. I opened up the city streets more, removing what had originally been dungeon chambers. I also installed the mermaid fountain as a ground floor wall for one building -- it's too perfect not to use! Finally, I thought - "This place needs a roof!" And by "a roof" I mean "A roof" because I have exactly one roof. I originally made it (from plasticard) for a HA tower I'd built, and I kept it removeable to allow access to the tower, and ease of storage. In the end, it also ends up re-useable, which is quite fun. I want to make a few more, plus some thatched roof items as well. They have to be pre-set dimensions, of course, but for purposes like this it isn't hard to decide in advance to restrict oneself to certain footprints. Since I only have one now, you'll be able to tell in the pictures when somebody was made to share! ;)

I'm also including an overhead shot of the whole neighborhood...

The archers are the plastic regiment of Glade Guard from GW (hiss! hiss!) in the most recent Wood Elves army.

I have to admit, GW has done some great models in the past few years . The Wood Elves produced some truly fantastic plastic ranges -- the glade guard here is neat, but the dryads are truly outrageous. There are a few other sets in the Wood Elf range that are worth having, as well.

That's the Vampiress from Reaper's Crypt of the Vampiress blister -- came with her, an ornate candelabra (I painted it gold, it's in the background of some of my recent pics) and a sarcophagus.

Thanks L for the info on the minis. I never would've guessed those were plastic, very nice detail.

L,

That roof idea is way excellent!

Well, that makes three projects on my "to-do" list.

Thanks again.

Im really digging your towns - this one and the "Venice"...the stone first levels on the wood buildings really makes it and the use of the mermaid fountain and other peices is just great. Roofs are a muct to complete the look though (and keep hidden from the gamers what lies inside)...I'm going to have to scour my railroad models and such to see what I can come up with...still awaiting delivery of my MBsets...(ordered late)...anytime now I imagine...I hope to be able to pull off some towns along the lines you have done though I suppose it will take some practice and expirimentation (and consultation with your pics to see how you pulled it off!) - thanks for the posts!
