I posted a link here late last night to a mini preview "movie" I put together but this morning I made a little discovery about the file I linked to... the sound was missing! A whole night of composing my very own sound track and it was GONE! Argh! ::sigh::

Well, with the limited development tools I have, I cobbled the piece back together in Microsoft PowerPoint and put the .pps (PowerPoint Show) file and the external audio file in a zipped file on my server at:

purgatorio.com/gameroom/sword_preview

The download is a big one--6.1 megabytes, so those of you with dial ups might suffer a bit if you choose to download it. I'm working on having the whole thing converted to a single Flash file from a friend of mine but that won't be coming soon enough to help me get rid of the giddies over my new pet project.

This is just an intro--the story is still in production now. I hope you enjoy it if you're able to download it and view/listen to it.

It's not a dungeon. It's an Underground Fortified Defense Installation.

Oh, man, I REALLY want to look at this, but I can't right now! It means dealing with computer stuff, and let me tell you, I have had ENOUGH of dealing with computer stuff.

My wife installed new software on our PC before leaving to visit her mother for a week. That killed the PC (the new software, not her trip to visit family). Then I began the law school application procedure, and getting the right programs to work on our Mac laptop was a nightmare. Then I finally got it to work, but I couldn't get things to print, and we don't have MS Word on the laptop, and I'd need that or something like it for all supplements to the applications. Then my wife got home and fixed the PC laptop -- we've abandoned the desktop PC -- but the stuff I had finally gotten to work on the Mac now didn't work on the PC laptop. Now it seems to work.

So after struggling to get this software to work not once but twice, on two different machines, and having to insall and fix all sorts of other stuff to get it all done -- and "install and fix" means "panic and freak out and get my wife to do it, because if I were any good at all with computers, I wouldn't be going to law school" -- and the thought of doing anything other than clicking on links right now just makes me tired.

Sorry, Dante, but I won't be able to read your new story until Nov. 2, after all my apps are in!

Hey, stoat. Thanks. I'm trying to get it in a "single file format" like Flash or something non-OS dependent.

L--I hear you about the computer problems. This is actually just a "preview" of the upcoming story. It's a monster download because of what I produced it in. The PowerPoint show might run on your MAC without having PowerPoint installed. It's a "self-contained" running presentation with a seperate audio track (that runs while the show is running).

I just really wish I had some higher-end development tools to do this with. I like the idea of making "mini movies" but just don't have the $$$ or the software!

Dante -

No joy, I can tell you that without even doing the download. IF the show is a POWERPOINT show, it needs to have either PowerPoint, or the PowerPoint viewer - and PowerPoint is a WINDOWS application, either way. Sorry.

I fear you're going to be stuck with something like Flash to be truly OS-independent.

Good Luck - and I MEAN that!

See ya!

Hey, Jim. Yeah, I just found that out--that you need the PP viewer if you're on a Mac. I'm looking through all of my old software to see if I have something to covert this confounded thing into a single "universal" format. Grr! ;-}~

Powerpoint runs on the Mac. And you can also use OpenOffice on the Mac or a Linux box.

pfworks,

Sorry; you're right. I keep forgetting that M$ DID release a non-Office version of PowerPoint, so it could be written for the Mac.
If anyone would WANT to run PP on Mac.

See ya!

Hi, Drom. You betcha'. I was suitably impressed with that "expansion" set to the point of getting two of them CHEAPLY at a certain big store that starts with a "W". They make a perfect town guard in my main adventuring town!
