A friend and I co-dm-ed a game at SF Conquest this past weekend. I won't talk for the players, but I know we had a lot of fun.

We used D&D 3.5 rules for an arena type game, with two teams: red and blue.

For the first phase, set in an Inn, the blue team's goal was to find a key, while the red team's goal was to defend the key. The blue team was able to get the key.

The second phase, set in a cavern, started with the blue team attempting to get to the back room (the room with the pentagram), while the other red team attempted kill the blue team. The red team managed to kill most of the blue team, before discovering that the blue team was also Lawful Good. At the point, the teams joined forces, and attempted to defeat the denizens of the cavern. They did not succeed.

We played in an open area, and throughout the course of the game, especially during setup, we had MANY people checking out the Dwarven Forge. I was pleasantly surprised at how many people said that they owned a few DF sets, although most of them said "Oh, here's the lake set I've heard so much about - that IS beautiful." For our part, we smiled and nodded, and talked enthusiastically about upcoming sets. The stuff speaks for itself (although we did point out details: the clasps on the MBS, the fish in the river set, etc).

We did a similar event at KublaCon at the end of May, and will definitely plan to host a game next year.

Cheers,
Zul

P.S. As an added bonus, we got to meet Pfworks. Thanks Pfworks, and hope to see you at KublaCon!

Very nice set up! What are the aquatic minis with what look like axes made of shells? I can't make them out.

Sounds like you had a blast.

Where did you get that brown board used to cover the maze? What's it called?

Not sure, but it looks like just black foam core (something i have used to cover setups), and the color is off in the picture so the top looks brown, but the sides look like foamcore board.

Genghis is correct - it's foam board, available in a variety of colors at any office supply store. I usually have some sitting around so that I can cut it to size as needed. Use an exacto knife to give it a good cut. I especially like to use it to seperate floors in a multi-level setup. I usually cut an opening for the stairs.

The rug is indeed doll house furniture. Works pretty well. Thanks for the compliment.
