A while ago L posted some accesories for the MBS set. I played a little bit around this weekend with some ideas I has a while ago (actually after IO posted the Inn on the Green) but never really got to carry through.

As my player have just reached a critical place in their game - a secret door on the first level of Undermountain with a narrow passage behind - leading to a gate - I felt it was time to build up some accesory not yet available. I call it the crawl-through. I'm quite pleased with the result. I built it in a way, that you can place on a narrow passage 4-way intersection (or alternativly on a half floor extender).

The way I envision it in the game is shown in picture 1. Picture 2 shows the piece on it's own. The difference in colour using flash is shocking ... But I couldn't be bothered to get the tripod out - and my lighting means blurred pictures otherwise.

Picture 3 and 4 show some window designs. The varnish is too glossy - but it isn't as bad as it looks in these pictures. I had this design in my head prior to the MBS and felt some windows are still a nice addition. Picture 5 shows my whole production. One small window still needs varnish (I forgot to drybrush the inside of the window - it will have to wait until the next project) and the middle crawl through is actually a second generation product. It actually has fieldstone design also on the bottom - and I did some sanding to make it 3 mm more narrow. It now looks a little bit narrow if used in the narrow passage way set - but it will fit into a normal passage (see last picture).

Comments welcome

Whoo! That is NICE! You know, I think you've finally pushed me over the edge, after 5 years or so -- I'm gonna have to get me some fieldstone molds. It's just too tempting -- the possibilities are endless! I gotta get one, maybe two...

That's really cool. I could totally see how that could come in handy.

"I don't know about crawling through there... what if it's trapped?? Rogue, check for traps."

::roll::

"There's DEFINITELY no trap there."

"O.k. Here I go..." THWACK!

All

Thanks for the feedback.

2L: Yes - the fieldstone molds fit in really, really nicely for the walls. But you need the ghotic cracked floor mold. The main problem is the paintjob to get it right - and off course the walls are thicker. But it turned out not to be such a big issue as I imagined. When I build it up just for a photograph I felt it is good enough to play in. No real need to use them as walls only and to get corners from ajacent rooms. Off course that way you can mask it and won't have a seem.

2Dante: This is exactly why I build it. Yes - what about if there is a trap. What about someone waiting on the other site to attack you. But maybe you have this map to the treasure with the secret passage and oops - they must have missed this detail. Do you want to turn back now ? And I heard all these people asking for Sewer sets - how often in a serwer will you be forced to crwal through some hole like that.
No - I wouldn't like it as a player - but I'm on the other site of the GM screen ;-)

2Whitewind: Yes - they are free standing. They stand quite save on their own as they are thicker. I reckoned that making them that way has several advantages. More flexbility and less work - after all I should have enough floors and just bought two each 4*6 and 6*6 and no need to make floors. And in addition - storage space.
