Master Maze Tile Sets Version 1.0.0 beta 1 for Tile System 7 Years, 10 Months ago
Hi Everyone,

I start this new topic with the announcement of the availability of the first beta for Version 1.0.0 Master Maze sets for the Tile System software at

www.muinimula.de/Muini/de/2nd/tools/mastermaze/Mastermaze.html

Since the tile names have changed you should keep backups of your old tile set versions and maps before installing. The old maps will not work with the new set versions!

The download page also presents the newest Version 2.0b of the Tile System and an additional pack with sample maps, which are also included in the new 'Ultimate' file.

The Cavern Drawings now contain the newest lake tiles from pfworks.

A Sci-Fi drawings set is available and also included in the 'Ultimate' package now.

The Change Tileset function can now be used to change between drawings and photos tile sets while a map is loaded. Thus the old 'FlipPhotos' sets are gone for good.

Known bug in sample map:
The sample map 'Test-Fantasy-1.ts' accidentally contains references to the 'MyMasterMazeAllPhotos.set' which is not part of the Ultimate package, but the MM-SetsWithMyCounts package. You can fix that map so that it refernces the standard set file manually by using a text editor on the 'Test-Fantasy-1.ts' file and replacing all occurences of 'MyMaster' with 'Master'. After that the map should reference the 'MasterMazeAllPhotos.set' default set file. In the next version of the sample maps the map will be fixed.

Please post any bugs and errors or further suggestion here.

Changing Tile System backgrounds:

The 'Ultimate' package now contains several example background images in the MasterMaze folder. Check them out if you like.

If you want to use another background, just name the image you want 'background.png' and place it in the MasterMaze folder.
All set xml files reference the 'MasterMazebackground.png' as background image.

If you want to use your own background image, you can do it exactly the same way. Just put/name it to 'MasterMazebackground.png' (of course it should be a png image).

Since we are in the Cool Photos section here, I also add a collection of the latest sample screenshots, which show some of the sample maps included in the new SampleMaps package and of course the Ultimate Master Maze Tile System package:

And here are two screenshot of a new sample map (not yet included in the V1.0.0 beta 1 downloads) showing Fantasy, Den of Evil and Caverns in a huge setup. The map is not yet finished, because the Cavernous River and Walls are not available yet. For the same reason it also has no photos for the cavernous lake tiles, since we have to wait until August, when I'll get my sets and can shoot them.

This is simply astounding, I can really see a few laptops at GenCon set out so potential customers can get the feel of what they can do " and how much they should BUY!! " I am wondering though. Can I just uninstal that former version and reinstall this? Superb idea with a background image BTW " bravo ". The photos look like they are primo and conform nicely to the grid. This program is yet another reason to go out and get that 21" Samsung...LOL.. But that would be less DF!! Ohhhhhhh..

@whitewind:

Since everything just comes as zip archives, there is no (un-)install needed.

For installation you just extract the archives you want to a directory of your choice. To start the program you execute the TileSysteme.exe. If you like you can create a shortcut for that programon your desktop.

You can simply delete your directory with the old version, if you are sure that you do not need it anymore.
But if you allready created some maps, you want to keep, you should either print them out, so that you can recreate them with the new version (I did that with the huge setup above, except the new upper right cavern & lake section, which has been added today and it took me approx 30 minutes) or keep the old version as long as you need that old maps.

Can one of us change the backgrounds ourselves within your software?

Plus, reading through quickly, I did not see anything about Sci-Fi Master Maze.
Did you include these in your software?

Great, Thanks much for the info I'll try to get that going soon. Terrific stuff here...

@RabidFox*:

About changing backgrounds: See my second posting in this thread ;-)

And yes, I forgot to mention in the announcement that the Sci-Fi stuff is also online (added it to the announcement imediately). It is available as a single set package and now also included in the 'Ultimate' set. Due to the fact that I do not have any Sci-Fi MM there are no photos yet, but drawings only.

What do you need here?
Just straight verticle pics?

Yes the pics should be shot vertically straight down and so that the perspective distortion is as less as possible (everything that 'hangs over' the floor outlines has to be cut away in order to make the tiles fit as proper as possible in the TS).

If possible the pictures should allready be postprocessed, so that they are not so large and to save me the work ;)
Postprocessing usually includes cropping an appropriate part of the photo, adding an alpha channel, erasing any background to plain alpha transparency, rescaling the image to even multiples of 100 pixel in each dimension (at 100dpi) and converting it to .png file format.

There have been several tips and how-tos about tile photo shooting and image postprocessing posted in the 'Making of...' thread here (www.dwarvenforge.com/dwarvenforums/viewtopic.php?id=1148).
