I mentioned this in a different thread -- here are some pics of the Zizzle Pirates of the Caribbean playset, repainted. Some original shots included for reference. I am not done, by a long stretch, but I like how it is coming along. The wood, I think, looks particularly good, and it was VERY difficult. One unanticipated problem -- the original fake "grain," when they did it at all, is backwards! So any drybrushing will look wrong, highlighting the part that should be recessed, etc. In any case, I'm pretty happy with it. In the original pic of the wood, you can see where I've already started carving it up, next to the original smooth brown plastic.

These pictures don't show the silver highlights I've added to the barrel ribs and to the bolts on the mill, and the millwheel itself has been done more carefully since as well. Other than that, I just want one or two more layers of drybrushing on the stone, and that will probably be it. Trickier than I expected, since the gaps between the stones is in some places very large, so highlighting doesn't bring them out as much as normally, since some paint DOES get in between the stones. A very light top level drybrush will make things more pronounced, but that's the last stage. I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll do to the base. Maybe add some flock...

EDIT: Sorry about two things:
1) This isn't DF at all... but I still thought people might be interested.
2) I didn't name the pics so that you get direct original v. repaint comparisons as you
thread through them -- but you can probably tell from the thumbnails which shots are the comparison shots. I'll add some others, maybe find a way to make it clearer.

Nice indeed! :)

How about the scale? I suppose it's too big for 25/28mm?

Thanks for the kind words -- yeah, it's 1:18 scale. There are WWII figures in that scale, and pirates, and of course Star Wars figures. It will be a great terrain backdrop for pirates and 21st Century Toys' WWII line, but it won't be much use for minis. Unless, of course, it's some giant lair. It IS fantasy, after all....

And it was $30! Ah, the prices when you turn away from 25mm...

Law,

Kewl find... You have done a great job on the wood detail in particular... As to finishing, you mentioned possibly adding Flock to the base... I think that-that would be a huge improvement...

Regardless, nice work...

Yeah, the flock will happen -- I'm sort of waiting to see the movie to see if I want to try to copy it from there, mimic whatever the surroundings are (sand? grass? water? mud? etc) If I don't like the movie, I may just come up with my own thing...

Anyhoo, here are some more pics, further along -- a better shot of the barrel, with a comparison shot for reference (didn't have any closeups of it, but the barrel is in the background, you can get a sense of how I changed it). Also more pics of the stonework and the silver highlights I added to the millwheel. I'm also including a closeup of the wall that was meant to accompany the close-up from the previous set of pics -- the one above is the wall fresh out of the box, this close-up is after my changes.

The lighting washes out some of the highlights, since the gap between the stones is pretty big. Still, you get a sense of how it looks. I still probably have one or two more layers to finish.

And, for the heckuvit, I'm including a shot of some pirates fighting in front of it. This is all 1:18 scale.

Sadly, times being what they are, I'm selling this custom. I really didn't want to, but it's so big, and I could use the space, and whatever money it brings in. Check out eBay for the listing if you're interested...
