My group just completed "The Hall of the Rainbow Mage." The module culminates in a four story, pyramidal temple. I really like the transparent risers that Jim Kratzer posted, but I wanted to an opportunity to attack the party while they were on the stairs and my minions were on the next floor (Yes, I am a right bastard).

As luck would have it, I happened to have some poster board lying around. So I cut holes in the spots where the stairs come through.

Definitely not as elegant as the transparent risers, and I have to remove the doors before putting the poster board on. On the other hand, it holds really well, and has the advantage that you can cut holes pretty quickly, if needed.

Cheers,
Paul

Paul,

First of all, thanks for the strokes; I hope to have new pics up this weekend.
Second of all, and MOST IMPORTANT: The posterboard worked for you, right? It did everything you needed it to do, and at least most of what you wanted but didn't need, Right Again?
Then it's a success for you.
We have no kids, my wife and I both work and get a pretty good paycheck, and we like to play. So, we blow out a sizable amount on our toys and hobbies. So, we have a fairly comprehensive collection of Dwarven Forge, and we enjoy showing off with stuff like the plexiglass risers.
That doesn't mean YOU have the same resources, or need to spend a bloody fortune all the time!
One of the few things that will piss me off faster than anything else is the wise-guy who will read a post like yours and say, "WELL, he should have done this, or spent that, or tried something else!" never thinking that what Mr. Smarty wants may not be what YOU want, or how dep the pockets are, or similar problems.
Most of us who consistently post here on the Df Forums are either innovators, such as Invincible Overlord (DO NOT LOOK at his layouts if you suffer from envy In ANY FORM!), M. Tom from France, Ghenghis Ska, and RabidFox*; others of us are sincere copycats, such as myself (IO did it to me with the risers!). We either show what we have come up with or we show 'n' tell what we got inspired to copy and modify. There are a few whiners and bitch 'n' moan types, and they get quickly weeded out and go away. Fine; let 'em.
Don't be afraid to post what you've accomplished; after all, even IO started out as a brash young neo, too. (Sorry, Mike; I had to get off at least ONE shot at you!)

Ya Done GOOD, paul; keep up the good work, and keep on DF-ing!

See ya!

Jim

Great stuff. I like the use of the three-wide stairs. I appreciate you showing how you built the setup. These types of things are inspiring. I've been saving such pics to my HD so that I can use them later for ideas. :)

Thanks for the kind, and encouraging, words.
The stuff is called poster board or foam board. Since a picture is worth a thousand words:

The stuff is very inexpensive, is very easy to cut (provided you have a nice sharp blade), and comes in reasonable sized pieces, like 3 ft by 2 ft. It's handy for all kinds of things.

Cheers,
Paul

Oooh! thank you! I'll have to reserarch a little by myself. I asked about the name because sometimes this kind of stuff is difficult to know how they call it in spanish, the language in which I'll have to see if there's some available here... ;-)

Foam Core Board also works great for making your DF into buildings.

I wanted a kind of tower like structure in my game last night so i cut some Foam Coare into 10x10 squares and used them to stack levles going for a removable level that the PC's can adventure through.
