Greets.

Well, since I own 22 sets and some odd pieces but have only used them twice before, I thought I should start playing with them. Actually, what I really wanted to do was get a good feel for what pieces are important and what pieces I'm short on so I can order more of whatever will provide me the most benefit.

I've only built two other setups before. I'll snag pictures of those and post them at some point. This is my third ever build. I simply started unboxing my cavern/passages sets and putting things together in no particular order with no pre-planning.

As you can see in the back right, I'm short at least one 4x4 cavern floor tile which would have completed this scene. It's too bad all the edges don't meet precisely, but that's okay.

As for the cavern entrance, I had two options tonight 1) make it a cave entrance and 2) attach it to a keep. Since I ran out of that type of conversion piece and I'm working on a cavern adventure, I chose the former.

I used 2 entire cavern sets, most of 2 cavernous passage sets, and then most of a mixed cavern/cavernous passage set I bought off e-bay (someone's spare parts).

I think what I learned tonight is:
Important to me: 4x4 floor, straight wall, cavern conversion, cavernous conversion
Liked more than I thought I would: complex corner (gives the cavern some class instead of just being round)
Wish there were more of in the boxes: All of the items I found important plus 6" straight passage (really, only 1 per box?!) and short straight passages (I found them very useful in extending each passage just enough to allow me to branch off).

It's sad but when I noticed the DF web site changing format tonight, I also discovered the 4x4 cavern floor tile is out of stock. I hope DF gets more of the 4x4 floor and straight wall pieces in the June shipment.

Thanks for sharing your comments and feedback.

Hope nobody minds the posting...it's not elaborate in the least. Just thought I'd share and hear back.

Oh...and I apologize for the camera work. I used to be able to get non-blurry images with this camera...now, only my wife can and she was sleeping.

Thanks!

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

John -

There is NOTHING WRONG with this setup! Don't you apologize for doing good work - especially since it's only your second one!
Gawd, you should have seen MY early attempts; the lizardmen ran off the table laughing (I was mortified; it happened at a convention!).
Seriously, all kidding aside, this is a very comprehensive, very interesting cavern setup. And, I couldn't find the missing 4x4 floor. So it can't be too obnoxiously missing.
As far as the 'blurry' pics; check the Macro setting. Do you get a little 'flower' icon on the LCD display, or in the viewfinder? If you DO, then "someone" left the camera set for VERY CLOSEUP SHOTS. If you do NOT, then it's time to go see the camera doctor.
Who "Someone" is, I will leave up to your detective abilities, and your conscience; it HAS to be the last one who used the camera before you started getting blurry. That should limit the field of suspects; round up the usual ones.

Good luck on the camera, and keep up the GOOD work on setups. Hope to see you in August in Indy!

Glad I could brighten up your day; I do Occasionally manage to come up with a good one.
Unfortunately, it's not THAT often, so excuse me if I gloat a little bit; I wish I could get them to laugh around my work place!
Also unfortunately, it wasn't THAT far-fetched; the lizardmen DID get at least a chuckle at my first, anemic attempts at dungeons and mazes!
It was my friends who joined the games that were ROFLTAO at the setup; I almost ahd to throw them out and get a new set of players, just to get some respect! I felt like Rodney Dangerfield! But, I DID manage to win them back; just about the time I demonstrated to them that although the layout wasn't all that great, I AM a demonic DM. Even the half-red-dragon Paladin had his hands full that time!

See ya!
