For the fourth or fifth year, my friend Jason Modisette and I are running a D&D tournament at Owlcon whose major purpose is to use my Master Maze collection. We got a huge load of support from Stefan, too, who donated eight or so sets for the con and the Rice University gaming club to use.

We've won "Best tabletop RPG event" the last three years.

The con's in two days, so here's a preview of the layouts we're using this time, centered around my two Den of Evil sets.

After the con, full details will go up on my blog.

Thanks, Dwarven Forge!

Whoops; meant to make clear that we got the support from Stefan back in the day. I don't think we've hit DF up for con support in several years.

Very Kool Dr. Elmo!

These are some very interesting setups...I like the first pic the best with the traps, he,he,he...I assume you are not actually showing those nasty traps until they are triggered and then "switching" them out eh?
These rooms all look like a lot of fun from the players point of view I think, please take a pic or two at Owl Con for the forum!

Good Gaming!!

Absolutely; the traps are swapped in for ordinary corridor pieces as they're triggered.

We do usually leave the secret doors in the layout, though, since the players can spot them, it's a nice touch to be able to go "Hey, there's a secret door over here". They get to feel like their character does making that discovery.

Awesome! Your absolutely right about that!
The most secret ,secret doors are from the Trap Set eh? Those swiveling walls are pretty hard to detect and can also be quite dangerous, he,he,he...

Great Job Dr. E.

Oh yeah - leaving the secret doors in the setup is lots of fun! ... but then I had to ban my players from going around and poking at all the walls in the dungeon!

he,he,he...loss of experience points and rolls for wandering monsters(all that time searching for secret doors) will help with that...

I gotta add, the stone ball aiming straight at the chasm is my favorite part. Brilliant! the kind of thing that brings a tear to this DM's eye...

It's not a dungeon. It's an Underground Fortified Defense Installation.

Hey dr.elmo I think we are actually close here. I live up here in Magnolia about 20" shy of the RenFest. I do like the Second photo, the DOE large room with the two enlosures in the corners. Also Putting that little square room in that long cavernous Passages is cool. Just think with a staircase " Upper and Lower " in there it would be an awsome way down to the caverns.... Great job on the cypt room BTW, dose that use all of the two DOE sets?

For the con, we replaced that little square room with an Ogre's Den; it worked much better for the encounter we had in that area.

The crypt (the rooms with the magic circles) use everything in two DoE sets except for a few floor pieces and the 4-way passages, I think.

Two sets can do quite a bit. I bought two also. I wanted to get three but at this point think there are maybe too many passages. I may whind up getting another one. I want to wait and see what the DOE Wicked Additons set will be like. I've not heard much from the boards about it recently. Once again nice set up. How many dealers were there this year at Owl Con. I went to the con once or twice years and years ago.
