All the standard DF minis and accessories sets (MM-012, MM-013, MM-016 & MM-029) are allowed. No WA pieces.

Have fun!

Hi -
What do you mean by "No WA pieces" ?? Surely not "Wicked Additions" ...

Thanks -

Welcome to the Skullreaper Orc Sports Complex! Today, the Skullreapers are hosting the Lizardman Tribe from Black Bottom Lake. The lizardmen just love the Orclympic sized swimming pool and water slide... only 1 cp per slide! Of course, the entry fee for the tribe to the complex is that they must put up some lizardmen up to fight in the gladiator arena. They have odds... 3 lizardmen versus 2 orcs... think they can pulll out the "W"?

I started this project as a simple gladiator arena... but then it grew into this. Although it certainly can be a bit comical, I do like the concept of tough, physical orcs having a place where they... well... do things to get tougher! I decided that I am going to use it in my Dand D game. Anyways, from these pictures below, can you find...

... the basketball court?
... the sauna?
... the "orcs of nobility" secret entrance to the gladiator pits so they can try and bribe them?
... the tanning bed?
... the swimming pool?
... the treadmill/stairmaster complete with TV (two goblins that are not visible in a box unwinding a scroll)?
... the concession stand?
... and bonus points if you can find the retired "jersey" of local Orc Gladiator champ Tosk Undercrush!

Some of these are kinda hard to find if you dont know where to look. I will show them clearly after the contest with a few more pics if anyone needs hints ;) .

Well it is funny how time just seems to fly by with a kid.

I hope to be done and photo's submitted on Monday the 30th. I assume that it ends at midnight "Eastern"? If that is the case I have to get it done by 8 pm my time.

Wife wants to go to an air show! Sometimes you just can't win but I shouldn't complain to much because I want to see the F-22 do some of its maneuvers. Still should be fun!

Will post on Monday!

Hushed tavern rumors and bedtime tales tell of an all but forgotten crypt of a fallen hero from a past era ...

A well-placed bribe, a tattered map and a long journey to a secluded valley beyond the mountains meets with success ...

Upon entering, the eye is dazzled by the glitter of The Lost One's wealth. One never ceases to be astounded by the ridiculous belief that the dead can take their treasures with them. With a chuckle, and coin-laden satchels, the adventurers prepare to leave The Hero to his slumber ...

The keen eye of the elf discerns a faint gap in the mortar of the wall. Regardless how fine, her eyes note the tell-tale sign of a secret door. So, it appears that these treasures were a last, and almost perfect, diversion to steer the party away from the true nature of the crypt. Almost ...

Beyond the revealed door, a hush of stale air from the darkness beckons the explorers. Or was that something else?...

What rituals drawing from opposing elemental magics broke the very earth ???

An evil shroud lingers over the Dark Temple. Something wicked was summoned ...

AND IT HUNGERS ...

POINTS OF INTEREST :
- Second Level Passages, Guard Rooms and Archer Galleries
- Large Great Hall of Fire and Water with Rift
- Portcullised Procession Hall to Temple with Sacrifice Pens at the Demon Arch
- Dark Temple with raised Dais and Altar
- Sealed archway concealing a Secret Fountain
- Priest's Quarters and Workroom

CONSTRUCTION NOTE: I wanted to create a variety of spaces to allow for the more active and fluid movement that is key to 4e D&D combat. Open spaces, larger spaces, elevated areas and obstacles.

I'll let you know how this layout plays in game

All man I didn't realize that you could use the Tavern Accessories set. I should of paid attention to the OK'd list a little better.

Oh well. That is exactly what I was going to use for the alter in my ritual room as well. Plus I like the round barrel tables. Looks good!!!

Mine I am choosing my photo's right now.

Well here is my entry into the contest.

Much harder to do than thought of course it doesn't help to have a baby in your arms the whole time either. :)

I made a mistake and took the photo's at 5 MP which is hard to down size them so they are within the limits of the contest size of photo.

I'll put more of a description up here in a little bit just want to get them up loaded first.

Sean

Description Edit: The first picture is the best I can download of the whole lay out of the dungeon. WIth the last picture being at the end of the passage that goes off the bottom of the first picture.

The second picture is the a close up view looking up towards the entrance to the third picture, which is the main room. It is a ritualistic sacrifice room.

Another room that I used just the walls of the passage from and a few straight wall pieces is bricked off along the straight passage. It is a treasure room basically the was made to have restricted access.

The room that goes is at the bottom of the dungeon was the dinning area but the lizard men some how made the lower area collapse and all the folks eating fell in and wasn't hard to take the rest of the dungeon from the current occupiers.

There is a small room that goes to the left of the first picture that has stairs up.

There is also a t-passage way that has a curving passage way off the board that you can not see but it is between the bottom room and the passage way that heads down from the first picture.

Beyond the treasure room their is a spiral stair case going up to another level.

Then just to the right of the passage way leading to the sacrifice room their is an upper level that has the grave of an old king of the land.

Thank you for all the entries! We will have a winner posted in the next day or so. I just spent a week at Origins Game Fair and I have a lot to catch up on. Stefan and I should have a winner very soon. Thanks for all the great submissions!

I like them all

crioux's is nice and compact, but still would work in an actual adventure
gdmcbride's again thinking outside the box
wweist's Very playable, i think it's competitve as is, good use of levels/elevation, and a number of interesting areas
Deeman's is also very playable, lots of good areas as well, The more "minis" eye view shots are nice.
shoesan's very good use of levels, i like the arena are it stages
Myrthe's has multiple levels, and looks to be very playable, with a nice amount of spwarl so the encounters don't feel to close together, but no to big to be silly.
thenorthman's is the same

There are really good, i am kind of sad i don't have any of the Classic Dungeon to enter, but kind of not sad as i have had the chance to spend the $ on Sci-Fi :D

I know my two favs..

Well if I had realized the size of the photo's, and wasn't such a pain to get my son over to my friends house where I set it up, I would of retaken the photo's in a smaller Mega Pixel size and would of got a much better representation of what I had designed.

As is I had to "fiddle" with my photo's to much to make the dungeon look good. I think this alone probably will take me out of the running. I was happy with the dungeon but not my photo's which it sounds like is half the battle in these contests.

Next time I will definitely be in the running, if I am out of it now, which the quality of the photo's make me feel like I am. Maybe I'll get lucky and still be in the running.

And the winner is...

First of all...this has been the hardest contest to judge to date. There are a LOT of good entries, and they all represent some interesting ideas. I think a good case could be made for any of the entries.

After a lot of thought we have picked one entry that had a creative story and excellent photography -- along with a great example of a good dungeon lay out that can be done with our basic sets. It may not be the most creative entry of all the submissions, but overall it is a great entry that a newbie could see to inspire them.

Congratulations to Deeman from Nashville, TN, USA for his winning entry, and he will receive a $300 coupon code for lots of free DF stuff.

Again, I wish it would have been an easier decision. Any of the entries had a good claim for victory. Thank you all who entered the contest. Our new contest will be announced later this month.
