This probably also means: paying tax... :-( I thought, the tax was already covered by the shipping cost (of 74$). VERY BAD. I also wonder about the germany tax-collectors: i have bought many times books and gaming accessories from US (of values ranging from 50$ to 200$ per package). Sometimes, the office wants tax, sometimes not...
I could have told you that. It will even be worse, because the most funny thing is that you will have to pay custom fees and taxes not only for the price of the product, but for the shipping cost too.

If you import DVDs or other small things, there is a limit under which the custom office does not care at all and sometimes they just guess the value of the package and may be wrong, then you are lucky.

But with a box of that size and the clearly visible declaration of the value on the outside as given here (and for god sake they did that!), it is pretty normal that things happen this way.

Some services do the custom service for you, like UPS or FedEx, but still you will have to pay when you receive the package then. Sometimes you can also be lucky and they forget charging you... And you don't have to go to the customs office yourself. But actually I don't mind that part so much.

bye

Dear Jim,

Thank you so much for your kind words on the DOE Set! However, I cannot take the credit, as it was Jeff and Darryl's project. I only helped a little. I am sure they are quite pleased for your comments!

Thank You!

Stefan.

now i keep all my fingers crossed for those of you who are still doeless - you deffinately have somethig to look foreward to!
OH, NO, Camo!

You only cross ONE SET of fingers for GOOD LUCK!!

Multiple sets only ROYALLY screws the recipient!

Anyway, I hope the EU gets their heads on straight and stops taxing the !@#$# out of personal purchases over the Web. Either that, or DF's Euro-distributor gets their stock in FAST and gives all of you a decent break.

Stefan, I don't remember if I gave you the required strokes or not, but here they are;

The Den of Evil set is undoubtedly the finest-sculpted set you have produced to date; not even the Sci-Fi or the various figure sets are this detailed.
I was not going to work the Game Room at Shore Leave 28 next year (July 2006), but now, I may have to run a game JUST TO SHOW THIS STUFF OFF!!! I won't even care if I don't kill off a single character - or even scare the bejabbers out of them! This set NEEDS, BEGS, CRIES OUT to be bragged about - in public!! With DROOLING, even!

Uh, in case I wasn't clear enough; Den of Evil is MUSEUM-LEVEL ARTWORK, Stefan.

Ya done GOOD.

See ya later!

I, too, took a heavy hit on shipping/taxes for my DoE set!

This is what it cost me:

DoE R&P set - $99.00
Shipping - $51.75
Tax - $28.62
Customs Clearance Fee $25.00

Total $204.37

So, USPS and UK Customs made more out of this than DF did! And I could have bought 2 sets for what I ended up paying. There has to be a better way for European customers to buy DF stuff. If you had a better European distributor (which sells at the same price in Europe as in the US), I'm sure that a lot of your European customers would be happy to spend more on DF and less on shipping and taxes!

Okay, big guy...pass the strokes on, then. But I thought Jeff was the business brains, not one of the sculptors!

Whoever did it, it's great!

See y'all!

Actually Jim, you are right.
From what I have been told, Darryl did the sculpting while Jeff had the idea.

Luckily I found the time to take the drive to the customs office today and after I found that I forgot the copy of the account statement at home, they accepted the printout of the email from df.

I haven't had the time to look deeper into the boxes, but what I saw from the short glance in the customs office (because the officers wanted me to open it), looked marvellous.

The officer working there today has been extremely helpful and so I have another valuable tip for all german df-fans:

If you declare the Dwarvenforge sets in the product category "Gesellschaftsspiele" then there will be *no* custom fees to pay!!!

You still will have to pay 16% value added tax on the total cost (product and shipping) though. But still, if you declare it in another category you might also have to pay an additional amount of 4-5% custom fees. You can avoid that...

bye

Hmmn, looks like we need a European supplier for DF products, paying $200 for a set ($100 for tax/shipping) is way too steep. (see above post). Something I'm not going to consider.

I have tried buying through the FLGS route, either over-priced and unavailable (or both)

At the moment, I buy all my stuff from Ebay as and when I see it (and can afford it). It's bit of a lottery though.

I am a little concerned about trying to get hold of new sets when they come out. Any "Caverns" sets are awesome.

Hopefully, DF will consider this an issue in 2006.

As a matter of interest, how many of us on these forums are from Europe?

Presuming here that you Avon are from Europe.
UK, I presume from the pseudonym.
I hope this little bit of work will be handy for you.

Here is the breakdown I can find despite the large problem that 4+ out of 5 forum members have decided to leave "location" blank, use a location from fiction or get creative like two members did with their responses of "Somewhere..." and "Denial".

Here's Europe:
Austria-1
Belgium-1
Finland-1
France-4
Germany-14
Slovenia-1
Spain/Gibraltar-1
Sweden-3
United Kingdom-11

That was all that were listed.
I severely doubt that is all of the Europeans on the forum though; shipping & handling to Europe and customs once the parcels get there have been too hot of a topic for this to be it.

I do know of one guy who does not have location listed, but he is from Spain.

I also only found three Australians and nine Canadians, all from only three of the Canadian provinces.

Jeff, I think you should start requiring members to at least have a country of location listed.
Then make it possible for members to sort the member list by country.
It would make getting together to play and/or talk a lot easier.

All

I'm really contemplating to ask Jeff if it would be possible to get a single shipment (minimum 20, maximum 50) Cavernous Riversets send straight from China to Europe. I would have the space to store (huge loft), money to pre-finance (no captital needed from DF which is important). It would be a one-off to help DF sell in Europe and to keep customers happy.

Just would have to convince my wife - and hear back enough interest here on the board. Kind of a European pre-order - just an e-mail to me would do - definately very limited (Eurpean pre-orders plus some spares for late-comers) - but Payment only once I have the stuff here in Europe.

If anyone here has a shop or would do it instead - please, please - I'm only thinking about such a solution as I want 2 sets myself but just refuse to pay again $150 to USPS and Tax. Alternativly we could do a UK order (I'm close to Calais - could include France - and a German order). Helping DF is fine - but it makes more sense just to send them a cheque instead of ordering and just paying postman and Tax officer.

And if nobody noticed - my 2 sets DOE where sposored by DF with 20 dollars as postage was higher as claimed (or the sets more heavy).
