hehe, I know phpBB is going to have the "ignore user" ability in the next upgrade... yeah that could be a handy feature, please update and implement when it become an option.

I cannot think of a forum, other than this one L, that does not have the "ignore user" capacity which is usually found within your profile preferences.
It can be useful for some folks, but it also can be a pain in the posterior.
The user is still listed as having posted in the thread; you just do not see what they posted.
On the otherhand, you still have listed any and all of the responses to said user from other users.
So how then are you really blocking out the said user?
You are not.
It is far easier L just to walk through the user's postings than to constantly remind yourself of how much you dislike said user by having the funny looking post pauses with their pseudonym label in the thread.

Well, that's your opinon, RF. You don't have to use the option if it is added.

I've seen it on several forums, though I haven't kept track of where.

You are right, of course, that you don't exactly purge the forum of a member you dislike -- you still see other people's replies to them, for example.

And yet the existence of this option persists, as does its popularity with some people. It clearly offers some appeal to those other than yourself, and I stand by my suggestion that it might be helpful here in keeping some people out of each other's way. It's really up to the mods to decide if they want to implement the option, and up to each individual member to decide if they wish to use it or not. You've stated your belief that it is easier to skip the feature. Others may not agree, which is why I made the suggestion.

No problem L.
Sounds like I steamed you up a bit - sorry, not intended.
Sounds like you are proponent of the ignore function so enjoy it if it comes.

I know I'd like an ignore feature on this message board.

Also, there's been talk about dividing the "Cool Photos" section up. I'm don't really care for that idea as for me it would simply cause more clicking just to see everything.

A way to get an idea if a cool photo thread is relevent to those just interested in Sci Fi or Fantasy would be to add a Category column. I know on some other message boards that there is a Category column between the new post icon and the thread title. These categories would indicate "Sci Fi", "Cavern", "Den of Evil", "Mixed", etc. I don't know anything about message board software so I don't know if that's a feature of a different message board type or what.

Just my 2 cents!

I agree with Calico Dave. Dividing up the Cool Photos forum is pointless.

About when will the restructuring take place? Or is that still up in the air?

It's going to happen as time permits. Probably not all at once, but in stages.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback! I'll be implementing some of your suggestions shortly. In the meantime, keep the ideas coming.

Ignore would be fine, I realize that the quotes would not be included but not everyone uses those. If some folks continualy use them to kinda egg you on? You could just ignore them also. I only go to 3 boards and have not seen this feature " nor had a reason to use it " but it would be a nice feature. Dividing up the photo section does not matter to me as I just read the subject line to see if I'd be interested in it but if some folks want it and it would help them please do it.

I agree with many of the users on this board, and would really appreciate an 'ignore [Reference to specific poster deleted - Moderator]' option on the new boards.

I have an idea for the boards.
Pardon if it has been suggested, but how about a board labeled DF business practices, where the people who want to can talk about and speculate on the business decisions that DF makes. I note that DF business practices come up a lot, and I just think it would be nice for it to be in its own area for people who care and put a lot of thought into that aspect of the company. On the flip side, other people who just care about the pretty pretty pieces can just chat about them in the appropriate forums.

I think a business area would be very nice.
I think it would allow us to better understand the company that produces as Celtchief puts it:
the pretty pretty pieces
that we all enjoy.
In contrast to whitewind says:
here here...! LOL,,, it won't matter though. Strings will still be " hijacked " Very nice thought though.
I think it does matter, but I do agree that it will still come up out of area when some bring it up.
All that needs to be done in that case is a moderator's redirect which will place it back where it belows.

Unlike what some folks here think, gaming is a business industry, and the gaming part cannot be truly disconnected from the business part and vice versa.
If that does happen, the company soon dissolves, and that company's product is no longer produced unless picked up by another business concern.
This paradigm can explain the demise of many companies that once did exist in the gaming industry.
The same thing happens with game shoppes who get too involved with just gaming (& vice versa here too) or were a just hobby in the first place.
