hooray! my first post!

i'd like to see 2 sets:
a DOE wicked additions and a DOE accessories pack

assuming it'll come in a WA#2 box(prefer that to WA#1 box, i think...) here's my take on what i'd like to see out of the WA style set:

-1 6x2 wall section w/evil goat fountain(ala WA#2)
-2 half circle ornate spiral staircase w/evil bannister(no walls-basically 2 half circles that can be used with pillars to make a full spiral stairway to 3rd lvl) OR grand evil staircase(2x4 ala WA#1)
-4+ goat pillars(good for stacking/multi level DOE)
-1 short conversion passageway w/evil gated archway at end(entranceway to DOE-protective runes keeping something in or out)
-1 2x2 floor w/evil throne(throne takes up whole 2x2)
-2 2x2 floor depressions w/evil runes, horns, claw marks, focus points of the larger altar)
-2 6x2 wall section w/evil frescoes(cthuluian style tentacles)
-1 6x2 wall section w/evil bookshelves(revolving wall?)
-1 6x2 wall section w/evil fireplace/mantle(secret door?)
-1 6x6 depressed floor w/runes, horns, claw marks, old bloodstains, bones, etc(ala fantasy floors)
-1 6x6 raised floor w/bloody altar(ala fantasy floors)

i realize this is a bit ambitious because that would require a lot of sculpting, but damn, it would be oh soo good. i would be in for at least 2.

as for accessories, here's my take on that as well:

-2 skull candelabras(with 5 candles each)
-evil artifact or 2(necronomicon, crystal ball in skull base, magic mirror, etc)
-2 evil looking braziers with flames & smoke
-evil chest
-multiple evil looking weapons(sacrificial dagger, greatsword, great axe-why are evil weapons always so great? hee hee)
-torture rack
-evil statues(that are flat on top so as to provide more pillars)
-classy evil looking bed with full bedposts/curtains of similar goat design(could be cursed bed of terror, or just evil wizard's resting place)
-alchemical table
-free standing bookshelves
-different colored portal pieces to slide in the DOE doors to make evil portals(to the various nasty planes)

that's about all i can think of at the moment. i'm sure there's plenty of other great ideas, but those would definately keep me very happy.

anyone here live in vancouver b.c.? that's canada, by the way...

oh yes, and i am a relatively new convert(last year this stuff dragged me right back into role-playing after a 3 year hiatus) and between me and another we have about 15 or so sets. keep an eye out for our set-ups in the pictures thread. beautiful products. they help me blow all my savings so easily and gleefully. evil is better! amen.

(last year this stuff dragged me right back into role-playing after a 3 year hiatus)

Pretty much what happened to me, with a longer time away. When D&D went to 2nd ed, I gave up -- I stopped by a gaming store a few years ago and saw a full DF setup, and within two months I had not only amassed a large DF collection, I also had the 3e core rulebooks and lots of other RPG accessories to boot.

Curse you, Stefan! You made an accessory so stunning it was impossible for me to stay away!
;)

Welcome aboard, dudebird!

First of All, dudebird, when you publish that ...for Dummies D&D guide, I want one for my collection!

Now, on to the goodies...

Grand Staircase and Grand Entrance; both DESPERATELY needed, but keep them as SEPARATE packages. Many of the accessories listed here in the forum are excellent ideas (especially the 6" walls and curved corners & corridors!), and will be bought in multiple packages. To quote Justin Wilson, "Ah Gar-ON-tee it!"
BUT, how many of the staircases and entrances will one person need?
DON'T put the Grands inside an expansion or accessory set; it will cut down on the space within the set, and result in wasted Grands.
DO include both Wall and Floor, and Corridor expanders.
DO include USEFUL furniture; no more haypile beds!
DO include Specialty walls, such as secret doors; I'm not sure about the torchieres.
DO include the Wall fountain and a companion blank wall; to balance the walls.

Another thing to remember; ALL of these should be available as INDIVIDUAL items, either via LGS or Website.

AND, as Rabid Fox continuously harps on, DON'T forget the SF sets!

Consider going to TWO CONTAINERS per shipment; more goodies=MORE SALES. More sales=stronger company. Stronger company=more goodies. Keep the circle going, PLEASE??

See Ya!!

yeah, that book looks hilarious. apparently it's already out. release date april 2005! it's a WoTC/books for dummies joint publication. here's the link...
www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/0764584596

i dig what you're saying, jim, and i second it. how many evil entranceways do we really need? well in my game... probably quite a few, but not super necessary... the grand staircase too. it should maybe just be included into a new regular fieldstone box(room & passage???) so that those of us who are thoroughly addicted would end up having quite a few. and yes, please "by the piece" availability on all the items.

thanks

Well I may be just one lowly gamer but I haven't bought anything in the DF Fantasy or DOE line and I'm completely not interested in any further expansion in these lines.

I play SF games like Space Hulk, SW Minis, etc. I understand that DF wants to market DOE toward flexibility including connecting to SF SCI-FI to represent a "Boss" location in a chaotic starship, however I have no interest in this line.

I just want more SCI-FI, not just a curved wall, but another set that really adds something to the set.

Of the Sci-Fi boxes out even the starter isn't quite perfectly balanced. One can very quickly have too many passage sets as starships and Sci-fi layouts don't look right in a grid like "crawl". The Alpha set helps build really big rooms, but again way to many pieces of Alpha go unused in most of my layouts.

I think that DF might be misreading demand for their SF products as reflecting a weak overall market for this genre of terrain, when in fact I believe that the disappointing demand is a reflection of the component choices of the three releases.

MORE SF less DOE, Please.

Gee Jeff & Co.!
If Zug and I can agree on something Jeff, might you think there really might be something there?!?

I have been speaking out against the mix from the start, especially concerning the vents and ramps and lack of an adequate number of doors/hatches, so might you want to ask us serious DF SF MM users some concrete questions of why we think DF SF MM is not being a major money maker for DF?
You might find real solutions to this problem Jeff.

Might that be better done Jeff by e-Mails from you to those obvious SF players here rather than just a new thread where the answers would be subject to unnecessary criticism and more especially, heckling?
Additionally, e-Mails to those who ordered a decent number of the SF sets from you either on the DF WEB page or at cons might well be constructive data gathering devices?

That is if you are actually serious about taking some real ground in the SF gaming sector Jeff.
Honestly, the DF behavior I have observed so far is not indicative of that commitment.

But hey Jeff, I could be wrong.
On the otherhand, DF may just be seriously mis-understanding the SF market and is suffering from some acute business hemoraging from the large number of positive opportunities not taken advantage of within this very specific, but lucrative market.
Very few Fantasy games have actually endured long periods, but many of the SF games have had the longest endurance in all of gaming.
Sounds like serious potential profits to me!

Jeff!

OMG!!! The Mad yank AGREES WITH RABID FOX??????

Well, kinda...

We DO need to expand the SF line in a rational, logical fashion. The possible market is HUGE, especially with the WotC/SW minis available. FFG has missed the boat with DragonStar, because although I've run a couple of games with it at Shore Leave and at home, 'It just ain't the same without scenery!', and the DF SF line doesn't quite measure up, yet. :(
This isn't to say that it CAN'T.
Make a deal w/Grendel, if necessary, and market their line of SF furniture. Or better yet, turn Stefan loose on the idea. If Stefan isn't all that interested in SF (which is possible, one's man's potion is another man's poison!), find another sculptor who can produce Stefan's quality!
OKAY, I KNOW it won't be easy to find one, but TRY! Hard. :D :D

On the DoE front, I've already said my piece; ONE staircase, ONE grand entrance; who needs more? Make 'em a stand-alone set!

The problem is not that DF made furnishings sets that did not sell well; the problem is that DF made the completely wrong furnishings sets!
The fantasy MM does not demonstrate the need for furnishings that both the SF and DOE MM does.
DF made a bad business decision and made the wrong furnishings set.
Let us have DF make the right sets (SF and DOE) and then let us show DF that furnishing sets for SF and DOE will actually sell well!

The Treasure & Magic Set, the Medieval Furniture Set and the Dungeon Accessories Set are in our Top Ten Unit Sales EVER.

We wish we could make every set we want...but we cannot. The good news? In 2006, you will see a lot of cool new sets!

Can't wait!

And I'm not that surprised to hear about the success with those sets -- they're fantastic! The treasure and magic items set -- I remember when the pics first went up, and I remember getting mine. They are just about the coolest stuff out there -- I would LOVE to see Vol. II of them! There's no end to what could be made -- more piles of scrolls, tapestries, books, vases, chests, statues, weapons, shields.... You could make the same type of stuff from the first version, but in a new design, or you could do entirely new stuff -- anything.

Really looking forward to what happens in 06....

I have to admit that the Bolded items are the FIRST dwarven forge i ever bought, over two years before i ever splurged into a full set of terrain becuase of the shear usefullness of these items for the D&D games i play. I bought two sets of each, with out any other DF and was very impressed with them (which is the reason i would love to see something like it for Sci-fi), iti is also the reason i was willing to spend the money for the Sci-Fi i saw the quality of those simple items as compaired to some other stuff i had seen.

While i love L's idea of increaseing the potential usefullnes of some of the addations pieces by having them mounted to floors walls etc, it would diminish the use to other people, like me about three years ago, if they hadn't been free standing i never would have bought them so it can be catch 22. I trust the the Staff of DF will do the right thing for the line.
