Big Bad Evil Guy?

I'm just wondering if I'm up on my anagrams.

Hi! Well, I don't agree with those who don't want to have "basic pieces" in the "Evil Aditions" set.

I only have orderer one set (I'm so sorry to give such poor support) :-( but it's not a matter of money, but space!!! I really have not place for 1 set... It would be impossible to have space for a second one for the moment!!! and I think that when at last I have space enought there will be no more DoE!!

So, I'd like to have 6" walls just like the Wicked additions have, so I can build more rooms. I don't use so much passages as the room and passage set have, so I'd like more more more room pieces. Also, a 6" wall piece would be the perfect chance for murals, big entrances as the demon archway...

I'd like big floor sections as well!!! and I mean some 6"x6" (or 4" X 6") with beautiful ornamentationin every square, and even pieces the "fantasy floors" type. An Evil Altar is reeeeaaaallly neeeeded!!! and the "evil alcoves" I think is a GREAT idea! because they are more walls for me hehe...!!!

Some more: The braziers/incense would be very nice!!! The Throne and some curved corners, and a LARGE portal/archway would be very useful too. Notice that a lot of pieces could be used with the standar Master Maze pieces, and that's always a great business to people who cannot have a lot of DoE pieces!!!

Very Important!!! : I would include A LOT(4 - 6) EVIL STATUES (pairs of equals), Hooded monks with a sacrificial knife, Black Knights in a majestic pose holding a big sword in front (perhaps tending it so you could make an archway with two figures like this, so the heroes have to walk under the swords) Dark Angels, Demons holding the top of the pillar with a sphere or pholiedral shape... That could be used for standar Master Maze too. I would include this better than new columns.

I think I would like the fountain too but I can't agree with myself if I'd like it attached to a wall or in the lava fountain way.

Anyway, I have to say that I would love to see a small set with more single walls (8, 10 of them, perhaps one or too with special ornamentation) , 4 diagonal walls, and some 2"x2" floors (perhaps also 1 or 2 with a little pit with bones...

Well, two cents... (Rememmmbeeer... Staaatuess....)

Well, I still hold out for more accessories and fewer basic elements, but I would include one qualification:

If there ARE going to be basic elements, please balance the set so they are all useful! To clarify: as much as I love the Sci-Fi alpha expansion, it includes two massive floor elements but NO long walls. As the regular set includes only 3 straight walls, that means that to get a lot of use out of alpha, you'd have to buy 3 or 4 starter sets for every single alpha set you buy! It's not balanced. You can, of course, find other uses for those floor elements, and there are many ways to combine things, but the general point still holds true: the SF alpha set was not balanced for use with the starter set. If we have the same number of every set -- 1 of each, or 2 of each, etc. -- it should be possible to use almost every element properly, and not find that there are now more floors than we can use, or more walls than we can use, because the expansion includes more floor/wall space than can be accommodated.

So -- if there are long walls, give us floor pieces to make rooms with them. If there are big floor pieces, give us long walls to make rooms out of them.
Buying the expansion should not make us feel like we now are OBLIGATED to go back and buy another basic set just so we can make use of the new elements. If you include a long wall like the mermaid fountain or the demon arch -- a long wall with stuff on it, in other words -- that is not quite the same thing, since there's no other way to do that sort of thing. But the SF set, that's really the set that I have in mind as poorly balanced. You simply can't use those floor pieces very easily unless you have 3 or 4 starter sets. You can MAYBE get by with 2, but it's a tight fit. 3 would be better, 4 would be ideal.

I'll all for "corporate synergy" and making an expansion that makes getting more basic sets appealing, but remember a few things:

1. The DoE set is about $100 -- a lot to ask someone to pay if they only want a few straight walls or floors to finish a big room. Since the Starter SF set was $50, and then $25, it was easier to justify going back for more basic elements.

2. The set is limited and may sell out -- so if the sets aren't balanced, you'll be selling us an expansion that we can't EVER get maximum use out of -- we just won't be able to get enough floors/walls to use the new stuff!

So -- that's my only request. You can see why going in this direction at ALL quickly makes it seem like the whole set is going to look a LOT like the first set, which is why I asked for mostly accessories/furnishings and not basic elements. So few sets are made, it really feels a bit of a let-down if one comes along that doesn't differ all that much from previously existing stuff.... (one reason why Cavern sets and DoE are so popular -- they're radically unlike everything else!)

A couple more ideas:

How about a massive Evil Fireplace? Villains often pace back and forth in front of a huge evil-looking fireplace.

Give it a mantlepiece with tentacle/gargoyle details to match the walls. Make it big enough that the bad guys could use it to burn sacrifical victims if necessary. Big enough that perhaps the back wall of the fireplace pivots to reveal a secret passage?

And how about an evil-looking Cell/Vault Door?

I'm sure the Den of Evil must house prisoners from time to time. Or store treasure or forbidden knowledge. There must be SOME reason adventurers are sneaking into the Den of Evil. How about some sort of massively locked and barred door that is either keeping people out, or perhaps keeping some THING in.

Sorry, but not too sorry, about being the odd duck here, but can we have more SF MM instead of a whole hoard more of DOE MM please?!?
At least come out with a few serious SF furnishings sets Jeff.
I think sales of SF MM would sky rocket if DF would just show this commitment to this line.
I know a good number of people who are waiting to buy in or making their decision to buy or not to buy, more often not than otherwise, simply until this occurs.
They do not care Jeff how cheap you make the deal for the sets.
If there is no furnishings, "What is the point?", is what they say.

As far as the direct subject, DOE, I agree Jeff with L and the other furnishings folks.
Surprise that, eh?
You have created an environment that the visuality of it, as shown to us in written and visual fiction, is filled with objects.
To keep the sales momentum, you need to supply the objects.
Otherwise, money that would have gone to DF will go to companies like Ainsty and WorldWorks - again.

DF has created objects for Fantasy MM in the past and probably got burned over it, yes Jeff?
The problem is that DF made objects for the wrong MM Jeff; SF and DOE will absolutely need furnishings to maintain a high lever of interest in the products.
Actually, thinking about it, DF actually has made objects for Cavern MM too and probably not realized it.
I have bought quite a few of the boxes of both of just the rock & stalagmite pieces from both Cavern MM sets.
How have sales gone for those boxes Jeff?
I have bought so many myself because very few caverns I have ever been in, that man has not cleared them out for a purpose, have as open of floorspace as the Cavern MM.

Anyway, and on subject, I vote for as many furnishings as can be put out for DOE.
AND SF MM TOO JEFF!!!!!

Hmm.

More "wicked addition" type stuff. That's my vote. Maybe a "concealed traps" set? One that had floor pit traps that weren't noticable until the GM removes a top "lid" showing a "pit" underneath?

More diverse stair types!

Maybe some arched passageways, double-wide passages, and...Oooh! A sewer set would be grand.

"In Soviet Russia, Dwarven forges you!"

Heh.

It just ocurred to me that there's something you DF guys could do (at least for me :) ) that would be ultra cheap to virtually free for both you and us:

Put the example setups back on the website, and create more!

I'm not saying I suffer from a lack of creativity but every once in a while it's nice to get a boot in the right direction in terms of design. I liked the example setups and was very happy to find that I hadn't gotten rid of all of my example setup inserts that came with my sets back in Christmas 2001. I really, really like Stefan's map designs and would love to see more.

So if we could get some more of those, that'd be nice.

I think I'll echo everyone else's sentiments here. I'd like to see two sets.

1. Basic accessories set, with 1 6"X6" floor piece (with removeable floor and dungeon grate underneath), two 6" long wall pieces with some type of bas relief or mural, an awesomely grandios staircase and four pillars that match the DoE style. This would pretty much match the SF alpha expansion set in terms of sellability. I'll echo L's statement that if you are going to release a large floor piece, PLEASE include the long walls to go with it, otherwise it is just too limiting.

2. An "evil accessories" set because we definitely need some items to liven up the interiors. Some suggestions (that have already been suggested) would be an altar, alchemists table, bookshelves, torture devices, corpses in different states of decay, evil statues (a must IMO), and perhaps some type of colorful/magical portal (upright).

1) I Still Think that a Conversion Set Would be Nice that Had Some Pieces Designed to Link Say Sci-Fi to Fantasy, Sci-Fi to DoE, Etc... Sort of In the Same Context as The Cavern Conversions...

2) A Modular Inn/Tavern Set would be Great! (Ok so I have Been Saying that For Years and Years... But I Still Want it)...

3) Accessories! I Do Not Care How Many Other Companies Already Make Book Shelves, Beds Bar Stools or whatever, DF would Knock 'em all out of the Park... And DoE in particular Could Make Use of this Kind of Thing...

4) I Definately Like the idea of Wicked Additions like Sets, as Well as Traps, but I think that the Emphasis may well need to be on Things which can work in ANY setting, either because they have a Unique Floor Pattern or because they are pieces like Stairs or Fountains or what have you which do not have a Floor moulded into them...

My Two Cents... And Hey You Folks asked for it!...<Smirk>...
