Thank you Admin for the info about the release! seriously.

Wow... I would like to take 2 of these sets... but I cannot preorder so I will have to deal with my usual "distributor" to get them.

I'm not waiting until 1000 units run out... and then you say Wicked aditions?!?! AAARGH!!! IT MUST BE MINE!!!

I would only wish that there could be orders for individual pieces.. (sigh)

Architecture aside, you could use it as a second level of dungeon that's visually distinct from the level above or below (sort of like Diablo).

Level 1: Den of Evil
Level 2: Fantasy Sets
Level 3: Caverns

That way, players get a different vibe as they go deeper into the complex.

And what are they going to call a Wicked Additions set when the main set is already called Den of Evil? "Even More Wickeder Additions"? :D

Originally, I seem to recall being told that Dark World was going to work the way you suggest -- the higher level of a dungeon, above the regular dungeon level, which is itself above the caverns.

But I'm not so sure I'm going to use it that way. I was picturing a more traditionally "gothic" feel, with less fantasy elements, so it would look, in essence, a lot like the 40K architecture (which I thought also because I remember hearing it would work as both fantasy or sci-fi)

But in the end I think DoE looks a little less open-ended. Sure, you CAN use it for a higher level of a structure, or in an SF display, but I don't think it looks like it was MEANT for that. The teeth and claws etc. suggest fantasy, not SF to me -- and they also suggest "deepest, darkest, sanctuary" more than "evil castle." I think even the name swap, from "Dark World" to "Den of Evil" suggests a move away from a kind of general gothic architecture to a demony kind of secret lair.

For some reason, I keep thinking of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This would be a GREAT setting for a BTVS minis game. If only there WERE a BTVS minis game....

I'm buying it for two reasons, to use it in my SW game as the inner sanctium of the Sith Lord from the current and any future SW games, and as the inner Sanctium of the Current Undead RRBBEG in my D&D game. It will be the Temple to his Dark God, etc etc etc.

I think it can have multiple uses, yes it does lean more heavily toward Fantasy, but i couls easliy see a Duel between Lord Tyranus and The Jedi with No Fear taking place in a room made from that set.

Well, like I said, it certainly COULD work as a SF setting. I love the Sith idea, I really want to stage an elaborate lightsaber battle here. Feels like a great place to corner Lord Tyrannus.

But I just don't think it looks like it was meant to be SF. It works for SF, but so could any fantasy setting, especially when you're thinking of Star Wars. Heck, the regular fantasy pieces make a great Jabba's Palace (complete with those little grates from the Fantasy Floor set)!

I mentioned 40K just for that reason -- some of the buildings that GW uses for 40K (Forge World pieces) look like they could either be Fantasy or SF.

But whatever -- this is a total nit-pick, it hardly matters. I'm just glad to see so much enthusiasm from so many people -- it means there may be more expansions for the line!

:)

I agree. Maybe if the limited edition set sells well, we'll eventually get starter and passage sets like we do for sci-fi.

Honestly, the whole limited edition thing is the only downside to this set. Or, it could be a piece of marketing genius to encourage us to buy more up front and add to the Dwarven Forge cash flow. Either way, I hope it sells well.

"limited" edditions could actually be a really cool idea.

Since Sci Fi Beta has a luke warm response, as has been said, if they are worried about making it and having it sit around maybe we coud see Limited Runs for odds and ends on occasion as a way to increase the sets.

There are a few things always in production, or stock like the Passages sets and rooms sets for Caverns, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, then every now and then a Limited Edition set comes out for like Sci-Fi Beta, or a Den of Evil, Underground River Set, etc. It is a chance to get the items that people want but may not be something Everyone wants. If the demand for them rises again in say two years, then do another production run on some of the more requested items. It might be a way to pay for products that might be marginaly sucsessfull, make a set amount pretty much to the demands of the core buying force, with maybe some left over (depending on the amount that is required to be produced in one run), for people to pick up later, but in general it would be almost a one shot, it may get redone later as a new set of Limited Editions. I know we buyers aren't buying this for "collectablity" so having another limted run three years down the line, with a set window for purchases, could be away to get some odd ball products out, everynow and then, that people want, but might not see becuase of issues of non profitality in that expansion as a whole...

Just an idea i had floating around.

That is true. Here's another way to justify it: people might look at the DoE set, or the Underground River set, and say "Yeah, that's neat, but I'd neat to get $500 worth of regular sets just to incorporate it into a setting. It's not a stand-alone piece."

The LE sets could be for us die-hards who already have a TON of basic sets, and now want some spicy stuff. They wouldn't be needed at the same level of the rest, because A) People would only need 1 LE set for every 4 or 5 regular sets, and B) First-time customers wouldn't be as interested in sets that "require" other sets to work best.

I Really Like that it Is Going to Be Formated like the "Classic" Room and Passage Sets... I Would Have Loved For the Sci-Fi Sets to have Been Released the Same way... And a WA Set if it Sells Well? Oh Yes... Please... That would be Really Excellent, and Likely would Expand the Other Sets Also!

I am Still Not Sold Completely on the Look of the Pillars, (Not For Morality Reasons), but Because of the Reasons I have Posted in the Past, Primarily that they Look a little Odd when You Have Two Wall Pieces Side by Side, (Because the Pillar is a Duplicate of the One Right Next to it)... But In General I will Welcome the Set... And Look Forward to the New Doors, which means one more "Type" of Door which can be Used to Change things up in a Dungeon...

I Can See a Variety of Uses for these Sets, Most of Which Have Been Discussed by others here... But One Neat Option (Made Possible Ironically by the Pillars that I am Sort of Luke Warm to), Would be to Have a 2x2 DOE Wall Placed inbetween Two Fantasy Walls, as a Sort of Obvious Spot for An Alter or Throne... Maybe Expand the Floor Out a Little ways with the 2x2 DOE Floors as well...

I had thought of that too, since i am just going to be getting one set, i was wondering if i could "bulk up" the size of room made with DOE by putting in a cavern, or other wall piece... to make the rooms look bigger.

Hi Jeff;

Can the DoE sets be pre-ordered by your international customers? If so, how?

Even at $100US a set ($175-&200AUD) I still want to purchase 2 of them.

I fear that the inablilty to order for international customers, and the limited edition of the set will kill it before it get's started.

Please... Support your international customers, if in the least, for this set.
