Personally I have no problem with the name nor see any problems arising from it. I appreciate those that have concerns about it, but can we move on?

I agree. No one said that Fantasy Floors was evil, even though that set had a big honkin' pentagram in it. If a few parents get bent out of whack about DoE, oh well. More for me.

What I really want to know is how limited this sucker is going to be, and if there are other limited sets in the works.

Well Dante, we certainly know where you stand, "Who care about kids and their parents that use MM that are different from me? I do not!".

Oh well, that is life with one of its different points of view; I sincerely hope that DF has a more forward-looking view.

I can see how you could misinterpret what I wrote given the fact that I didn't say much or clarify where I was going with that point. It's not the parents or kids--did I mention kids in that last paragraph of my post?--didn't think so... I could care less if someone "thinks" that the new DF set looks demonic. They're perfectly entitled to their opinion, even if it that opinion has its roots in the Medieval mythos of the pious. What was that comment about "forward thinking?"

We cannot move forward until we let go of the past. I've learned that unfortunately, there's a false comfort that comes with certain organized non-secular interest groups that impedes progress by clinging to tenets that are just too fantastical to serve any useful or constructive purpose for moving the human race forward. All of this seven-headed beast mumbo jumbo and what not. Really now. Reads like a chapter right out of the original D&D.

As for forward thinkers, did I mention that I was an Internet pioneer who co-developed the first web-based video and audio conferencing application well over a decade ago? It's not something I like to drag out of the closet to brag about but apropos of your attempted backhand comment suggesting I'm not a forward thinker...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and is Constitutionally guaranteed the right to express it, but in the end, all that matters is that the world keeps spinning, humanity keeps pushing for harmony, and Dwarven Forge keeps turning out excellent products.

Puhleaze.

We are supposed to believe that some families have a stock of DF fantasy terrain but will not be buying the new release.

If you have the Fantasy Floor set what hypocrisy would allow you to determine that the new set has crossed the line. I'm thinking I have issues with Mom and Pop gamer playing with Billy and Suzie with a pentagram on the cavern floor in the first place. Why is the new stuff any scarier or more demonic?

People who play this stuff and buy DF terrain are self selecting. People who play games tend to want to get into the darker side of the games.

I loved Deadlands as a Western system. I hated that it had magic and dark crap in it. I guess I should blame gamer prefereneces.

It's not like demonic armies and pieces are sitting on the shelf and selling at a discount.

I love games and play games. I won't play any Chaos armies in any miniatures world because I don't like that the symbols are based on actual demonic symbology. That bugs me. That stops being a game in my mind. I'd actually prefer if most games didn't have chaos and the demonic nonsense in them. It adds nothing to the game in my opinion and is just freaky to me.

Though, It's not like God and the Jesus list aren't like in the middle of this big 100,000 point epic game against demons and Satan themselves.

Or something like that...it was in the flavor text of the codex.

I don't think God has the right to tell me what to play either. If he can play against demons, so can we. Anybody has the right to buy and play what they want.

DF is a speciallized market and quite frankly the new stuff probably targets that consumer group perfectly.

I won't be buying the new stuff. I don't play fantasy. If I did, I actually wouldn't buy it for the very reasons Rabid listed. However, just because I don't like Dark creepy stuff doesn't mean other gamers won't. I just choose not to go there.

Heck, gamers will eat this stuff up.

I'll stick with SW Minis and Space Hulk thank you.

No Chaos floating hulks in my game room.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.

Well, speaking about the main issue, I want to say that the new set looks GREAT!!! and I'll sure have to get some of that stuff as soon as possible.

But I'm worried about the "Limited edition run". I don't like much the way in which Sci Fi has been released. I think the pieces in each box are not enough, and if you buy more boxes, (in my humble opinion, of course) yoú'll have too much corners and not many walls. So:

Does the "limited edition" means that the box like "room and passage set" will be the limited edition? and then the rest of the release would be like Sci Fi boxes? I'm from Spain and I don't think I will be able to get one of the boxes in "room and passage set" style, and I don't like much the other type of box.

Can somebody give me some light? (ironicaly, about this Dark Expansion... whatever you call it ;) )

If nothing else, I could see myself purchasing a few bits of Dark World to use for the tomb of Acererak should I ever build a Tomb of Horrors!

Oh, and anyone who wouldn't buy this because it "looks evil" is a twit and a dunderhead. I believe someone already pointed out the new floor tile set with pentagram, yes?

MZ -- as the board's resident professional philosopher, I have to point out -- when Nietzsche talked about gazing into the abyss, and becoming a monster while fighting them --

He was talking about Christians. It was a remark aimed against dogmatism, but even more, it was remark aimed against anyone who bases his identity on something external -- against anyone who derives their worth by looking to the faults of others.

No offense to any of the Christians there, I just can't quiet the little voice in me that teaches Nietzsche for a living.

Nietzsche would have loved DF, incidentally -- "Becoming a man means rediscovering the seriousness I had as a child, at play."

The "Den of Evil" will come with the same counterpart pieces as our classic "Room and Passage Set" -- even using the same box but different label. It will probably even use the same styrofoam inserts.

We don't know what the price will be yet -- as we have not received a final quote from the factory. I will post that info by June 30th. My guess is that it will have 1000 produced at a retail price of around $100/set. These will be a limited edition, so once the 1000 sets are gone...they are gone. If the new set sells well, we will probably release a "wicked editions" type set with the Den of Evil motiff to expand the usefulness of the whole Den of Evil collection.

You will be able to order starting June 30 on-line to reserve your set(s). If you pre-order you will receive free shipping. You can also pre-order at Origins and Gen Con (if any are left by then). We should have a pretty cool display of them at Origins, and a really nice setup at Gen Con.

Thanks for your feedback about the name. We will probably keep the Den of Evil name as it is a limited edition set -- and it has a specific market.

Well that should clear things up. I will probably get a set, but not on preorder (I am adverse into giving companies my money months before a product comes out). Will this be available through the usual distributors?

Well, seeing as how it'll have the same setup as Rooms and Passage, it should do very well! Can't wait to see what the passage pieces will look like. The doors (will there be some included as well?) should also be awesome!

Now, to find 200$ by June 30th! :x
