Same feeling here.

Reading all of these posts and looking back at the complaints/concerns I've posted, I wish I would have stopped a few posts earlier and waited for a response. When the Dwarven Forge veterans entered the conversation, with what seemed like empty assurances/praise, it seemed dismissive (in fairness consider the odds, this is the Internet). What was unclear to me was that minimal concern wasn't an attempt to dismiss; but, rather an sincere belief based Dwarven Forge earning their trust over many years.

Sorry for not being more patient/polite about not getting the survey.

Thanks for that. No hard feelings.

Here`s my opinion on this thread.
The principles of mass production are simple. The more you produce a good at once in the same ongoing production chain, the cheaper it becomes. The KS raised 1.9 millions dollars and this allowed DF to sell a painted Game Tiles Set including all stretch Goals for $73 a piece (That`s the SUPER deal I got for going in with 10 painted sets). If more customers had jumped in, the production costs (price per piece) would have come down which would have allowed even more free goodies. If DF had $1 000 000 cash at that moment, they might have paid and produced more Game Tiles at once for this incredible price, but they live in the real world of specialty gaming and they did not. Now though, this first production run is over. Unless they have another KS or a pre-order system, DF cannot afford nor risk another huge production run. Each production runs will be smaller scale productions, hence the price increase because of a limited mass producing capability.

The take home message is: don`t miss the next kickstarter! Also, as we say in French: "the train won`t stop moving forward just for you".

To chime in, this kickstarter was my first opportunity to purchase dwarven forge tiles, due to the prohibitive price before, and I am beyond thrilled with the handling of the product. It makes perfect sense to me that the game tiles offer an opportunity to keep your margins profitable, at a reduced but not ruinous price. It's unfortunate that resin is getting so expensive, but I think it's fantastic of you to keep offering what you can, at lower margins, to satisfy longtime fans. I felt you were perfectly clear when you stated during the kickstarter that prices during the kickstarter were as low as they would go, and I'm very happy I took advantage of the deal offered. By the same token, I still feel like I could pick up a set or two to fill gaps at a reasonable rate, and that's rad. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I feel you did right by your customers, while making sure that you could continue to do right by them for years to come. Thank you, from an enthusiastic but frequently broke gamer.

@Stefan i can't speak for everyone who misunderstood, but I don't think you mislead anyone, especially not on purpose. You seem like an honest guy, I just jumped on the defensive when the finger was pointed back at me. it wasn't my own fault I misunderstood either.... "cause you know sometimes words have two meanings".

When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall well well well well
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one

Old Collectors + New Collectors + DF = Great Gaming Sessions

Let's bring people together, put down the phones, stop texting, talk.

There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
Its true we'll make a better day

As a backer of 5 unpainted sets, and 8 unpainted addons, let me put a slightly different spin on this:

1 set was 65 through the KS. 5 sets would be 325. I pledged 260.

Savings: 65 dollars.

However, because of my pledge level, I was eligible for stretch goals.

5 set level equalled **roughly** 5 additional sets of walls, floors, and corners.

+ 325 savings - Running total: 390.

Now, those stretch goals also enabled **roughly** half of one curved corner pack, and half of one diagonal pack. Let's say 60 bucks.

Savings Total ~450.

And I have not yet included all other pieces received via the stretch goals.

And I have not yet added shipping costs - I have roughly 80lbs of stuff coming to me.

I have not yet added in the savings on buying 2 add-on packs instead of one.

The KS was a *phenomenal* deal. I see the cost of resin going up, as I expected it to.

I am sorry that you feel you might be getting an unfair deal on the current costs, all I can say is that as a resin and GT owner, the product is incredible, and regardless of what you might wind up paying, I cannot see **anyone** being displeased with the quality you receive.

Nor do I think, even for a millisecond, that Stefan is out to insult or shill the intelligence of any of his clients, existing or potential. He's a stand up guy, and every time I play D&D and bust out my DF, I'm glad that instead of taking this great idea he had and keeping it all to himself, he shared his creations with the rest of us.

/me steps off his soapbox.

so, first off, i would like to thank Stefan and the whole DF team. The kickstarter was awesome, and we backers got an AMAZING deal. I love my new game tiles. But, i could always use some more... and in the future i would like to purchase more. 5 sets will barely cover my table, and i plan on getting a bigger table (not to mention i will need a ton more to do a while con sized dungeon), so I'll need more game tiles. with the pointing out that the master maze tiles per piece is actually slightly (very slightly) less expensive, would you guys consider making the basic Dwarvanite set a little larger? maybe increase the base set size by the amount of floor tiles, straight walls, corner walls and doors earned in the KS. i know this will not get anywhere near as good as the KS levels, and i don't expect that kind deal. However i do think that an increase of 8 straight walls, 6 floor tiles, 2 corner walls and 1 door to the base set (these are the amounts earned per set in stretch goals) would turn the Darvanite sets into just a hands down better value and would silence the naysayers. Just a thought.

Adding 17 pieces to a 34-piece set would be a hands-down better value. Equivalent to a 33% drop in price, I'd say.

I would like to point out that there is a cost associated with a product held in inventory that is not present in a product that is shipped (almost) directly to the customer. Storage!

DF has to pay for the space their inventory takes up. Stefan doesn't store a cargo container's worth of MasterMaze in his apartment, and Jeff doesn't store a cargo container's worth of GameTiles in his garage. What's more, that space has to be paid for whether it's being used or not. So let's take that into account.

Furthermore, a product ordered "on spec" (no pledge, no preorder) is always a potential loss, if it doesn't sell. So inventory prices are usually set to cover the margins for more than one item. In the 1980s, the markup at a frame store was over 700% to cover the costs of inventory that didn't sell. While I am sure that GameTiles will fly off the shelves for a while, this still has to be considered.

And there may have been factors in the kickstarter that we are not privy to, realities that were not obvious at the beginning that became clear at the end. DF is under no obligation to reveal their operations or their finances to us.

Bottom line -- I'm pretty sure the kickstarter GameTiles pricing was half the price of MasterMaze, or close enough. And even if the inventory pricing of painted GameTiles is only 15-20% lower, it is still a significant savings. (Funny how a ten percent price increase is a horrible burden, but a ten percent decrease isn't enough to be worthwhile.)

This is a post I left on another similar thread that I think actually belongs here.

I believe the part in the video that confused some of us was "if we get the pledges we hope to get we'll be able to offer twice as many pieces for the levels that we have now". I didn't realize at the time that he was speaking about stretch goals increasing the number of pieces to backers. I'd never done a KS before and I was unfamiliar with how it worked, I thought he meant the sets would allow the store to offer twice as many equivalent pieces for the same price per set once the KS got the molds paid for.

I feel bad that Jeff and Stefan have gotten so much flack about this, plenty from me, now that I realize what it meant

Still, KS backers got a great deal for sure but if you missed that then they're not really that much cheaper. Although with the rising cost of resin I'm hearing about I'm understanding they're likely to be cheaper than the next batch of MM. At least it saves a lil with shipping and the potential for saving from painting is very nice. The product is pretty awesome though and I'm eager to see them for sale on the site. I think the price on these is fair

Until the pre-order prices are officially posted here the week of November 4th, we don't know what they will be. The web-master posted the multipack discount for painted add-ons the other day and then took it down right away. I think it was the same as the Gencon prices listed below.

Whatever the prices are, they will be cheaper than after the pre-orders close. So if you want a discount you have to buy them then or pay retail price plus shipping which will be the standard price from then on.

Gencon 2013 Gametiles Pre-order pricing

Free shipping over $100 (you will not get this on pre-orders as I asked Jeff 2 months ago)

Dungeon gray Set (Core Set)
$55/set
$175/3 sets
$215/5 sets

Deluxe Painted Set (Core Set)

$85/set
$235/3 sets
$335/5 sets

Dungeon Gray Pack (Add Ons)

$45/set
$100/3 sets

Deluxe Painted Pack (Add Ons)
$70/set
$135/3 sets
