Re:Survey 1 Year, 2 Months ago
I'd really be interested in Sci-Fi, but the Alpha which shows as out of stock, but wasn't listed in the survey and the Beta which isn't listed anywhere.

I realize that the Sci-Fi line wasn't popular, but there are still some of us out here that are interested.

Sorry for the confusion, The survey was only sent to US customers since that is who will "mostly" be ordering any Resin products...as Thod said, he still has lots of Resin in stock...so he is OK for the moment...I suppose Thod could send out his own survey and pre-order? not sure....

we were a little hesitant about sending the survey knowing full well that it might stir some strong feelings and/or misunderstandings, but we decided to go for it, thinking more communication is always better than less?

We are very happy to listen to everyone's opinions and are reading them here on the Forums and on the (first) Kickstarter message board...so, i think we are getting a good idea, but surveys are notorious for being not so accurate so, a pre-order is really what will reveal whether we will need to restock some of the more less popular sets like Sci-fi...

If the first survey question were where the customer lives it would be awfully easy to sort the responses that way.

At least I assume so.

I do find it annoying that the international (potential or current) customers are getting the very short end of the stick.

I understand you probably have far far more domestic customers, but why drive off international ones?

It isn't just the international customers. I am a US customer and have not received it either. This is why I am so confused/frustrated as a new customer. I've double-checked my junkmail and I've not recieved the survey despite really being interested in the survey.

I've purchased off the US website, so I am US customer.
I've signed up to receive updates multiple times.
I've posted saying I am interested.
I've spent money on the Kickstarter.

Still no survey, no responses to e-mails, ect.

I bet you get one on the way as soon as Stefan reads this :-)

Not sure if this will work, but here is the link I got. Maybe it will work for anyone? Jeff/Stefan - please feel free to delete this post if this is a major faux pas.

Sir William,

Dwarven Forge is a small company: mostly two guys. Stefan, a professional artist and sculptor living in NY and Jeff managing orders from Carbondale, IL. They both have other jobs and they have to deal with delivering 1.9 millions worth of good within a month. They don't have a team of IT people working for them 24/7 too, only geeky fans writing on the forum, late on a Saturday evening. I'm sure they'll make sure everyone receives its invitation for the survey, as this tool is designed to help DF make better business decisions. Also, it is just a survey, not an order. The take home message is: Please be patient!

Sir William,
I am really sorry for your troubles! i am not a computer guy so i have no idea why this is happening but it does seem very strange and If it happened to me i would also be ticked! Jeff is probably spending time with his family until monday so he has not seen this post but I'll send him a text about it and he will figure out what is wrong or just take your vote personally...Bio is right, we are just a couple dudes, it was just a survey and wow, it's like we opened pandora's box or something! but it's all good, we realize there are lots of folks out there really passionate about out stuff and that is ultimately a great thing....we do want to make everyone happy:)

I really don't think some of the newer customers are aware just how small the company is. Personally, I think that you guys are doing a fantastic job with the resources you have to work with.

People in my generation and younger have had access to computers since at least their teenage years. We're pretty spoiled with so many instant means of communication, fast shipping, and so many other things made possible by computers. I can remember when many things that take minutes to a day now could take a week or two...

I guess my meandering point is that being patient doesn't quite mean what it used to!

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Although I don't have this problem with Dwarven Forge, my ISP has "difficulty" receiving messages from some other ISPs. I stuck with my college-based e-mail provider, and as a result can't actually get messages (and thus register on websites) from some other providers. It seems the farther both parties get from the first-tier providers (AOL, Verizon, Yahoo, etc.) the more likely it is that they won't be able to communicate.

Don't know if that's the case here, but thought it might be relevant.

Re:Survey 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Hello New Collectors,

I am a long time collector. I started collecting Stefan's first year in business when you would fax him your order and he would email back you I got it. You could talk to him and he would go walk upstairs in his apartment and check inventory. I received the survey and am amazed at the responses you received here and after thinking about it I understand. The way I interpreted it was that in some cases we may not order the sets again due to the following 2 reasons

1. The limited run ends
2. We kept these sets so long in stock the last time that we may never have to order these again.

Each container only holds so many sets. The cost of the container is very high. They have to make a minimum run of each set and figure out what is the best way to fill the container. In years past they only had a limited number of sets so everything they needed got onto the container. Now with many sets they have to choose until they can build up business to purchase 2 containers and with the increased collectors hope that they sell through the 2 containers faster than holding the inventory would become financially unfeasible. The way they solved that in the past was to instead of ordering 2 containers at once was to order more containers per year. Each time they came out with a new set with a preorder to offset the cost of the shipping and container. This guaranteed them success financially. However like all businesses they are being pressed to grow at a time when the world is changing. Prices for raw materials have been held down artificially by many means. Materials were readily available. however, now those artificial means of holding costs on raw production are coming to an end and oh by the way everyone wants to make money. The cost of using labor over seas etc. In any event DF has a perfect storm right now in my opinion and have done what I thought was a brilliant idea. Change the game, make a little profit and reinvest. However they do not want to reinvest in everything especially sets that do not sell. They can not hang on to inventory for extended periods of time do to their size. They will survive, IMHO, and Stefan will make this work. I suggest keep giving them the feedback and they will make good decisions.

-Shadox

FYI When I read the survey I thought OMG, the ROTA limited series is coming to an end. I remember that being the most successful preorder at the time. I want many of those for myself. I also thought... The SciFi may not have been a big seller since it missed many refreshes over the years and the remaining in stock sets are still in stock so maybe it is a slow seller. I do not know and do not have any inside information. I think that the only thing Stefan and Jeff need to add is a free lance marketing major to help them with emails and surveys. :-)

It's my hope that some of these things can just be fixed or improved, instead of what seems what happen when complaints make it to the boards (not just here, it happens a lot). Older customers point out how small the company is, essentially ignoring the issue and placing the blame on the customers for not being patient.

I understand that it is a small company, but neither is posting in public (which I didn't want since I was aware it would turn back on me).

I've friend to be patient but eventually I just wasn't anymore. I never recieved a response about the contact page in the US having the same problem mentioned in the Dwarevn Forge Europe "Can't contact" forum. I tried to get an answer about that during the first Kickstarter.
