TOPIC: Updates on Restocking
#55527
Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year ago
I know Stefan is as frustrated as everyone else about the long delay in resin restock. I'm very frustrated with it, at the start of the thread they said resin restock should be coming but end of summer 2013. Now not until March. Thats a HUGE delay.

Since I started with resin, thats what I'm sticking with. Stefan also been mentioning the next kickstarter alot, everything here seems to be kickstarter kickstarter kickstarter.

With all this talk of kickstarters and the huge delay in resin restocks, it seems to me DF is starting to ignore the core customers.

I don't think he is ignoring his Core customers at all, and I am one since the late 90's This was my first year since then where I did not spend a few hundred dollars at his booth at GenCon. "I" believe that he ran into "catch 22" he needed money to order new resin but needed products to sell to get the money. The Kickstarter seems to be the new way for loyal and new followers to infuse cash into his business. Remember this is a very small company. I have worked with Chinese manufacturing for the past 12 years, there is a lot going on in China and inflation there is effecting things here and I am sure affecting this company as well. Remember there are only a few of us rabid fans that own 20-30 or more boxes of his products, we are loyal but not he cannot survive on only us. I backed his Kickstarter as well, seeing this as a way to get more resin sets I really want and need. I too am sad that we will have to wait a year to get more resin, but I ordered my kickstater unpainted like many others so I can come up with my own themes and spend the winter painting mine. I am very happy to read that resin will not be dropped and hope to spend a lot once he lets us know what we can order. I also wish his next kickstarter well, and hope it is also successful. I expect though if you really want resin once he lets us know what is in that shipment you better not wait too long to order as I have a feeling it will sell out quickly.

Just my thoughts.....

Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year ago
My great-grandfather owned his own grocery, my grandfather founded and ran a very successful floral shop, and my father created and sold several successful businesses. I have helped my wife create a small home business of her own that is in the black in it's first year. I have also advised my mother who has dealt with sourcing copper and tin from China for a major corporation. I am considering starting my own business soon. I provide this background to support the idea that I know a bit about the challenges that can face a business owner.

From what Stefan has said, I am sure he wants very badly to restock resin as soon as he can. The realities of business, especially when dealing with overseas shipping and sources, can throw a serious wrench into the works. I appreciate that Stefan tries so hard to keep us in the loop. Many businesses do not have that level of transparency for the exact reason that it is challenging to set some things in stone very far out. Given the success created with dwarvenite and the kickstarter, Stefan would be crazy not to pursue it further. Also the circumstance that DF was mired in just prior to the kickstarter were putting the business in dangerous territory according to Stefan. Too much emphasis on resin could jeopardize the stability of DF.

Stefan doesn't have to ignore core customers or abandon resin, but he does have to work with the realities of his supply chain and his cash flow. This means that he has to make sure he meets the obligations incurred with the kickstarter, continue momentum with the new line to preserve the cash flow, and try to restock resin without causing their funds to dip too low for reordering either product. Market research is expensive. Kickstarter allows you to roll said research into the process for very cheap and to take on far less risk compared to traditional funding sources. I am very glad they have done what they have done. I think it is disappointing that resin will take so long to restock, but I am fairly certain it is less a choice and more a necessity.

On the bright side...we have no shortage of new Resin designs being sculpted by Casey and myself, so be prepared for a sudden influx of new Resin Sets when they do come in...

Good to hear that the Resin range is still continuing and that there will be new ranges.
(If next years Cavern Kick starter can be mixed in seamlessly with current Resin Caverns then I will also back that KS same as the first..)

Not getting exactly what you want when you want it can be frustrating, especially in an age where we have made a ginat step towards realizing the dream of Star Trek's replicators (which is to say, 3D printing). However, what we get in return for our patience is a product designed with care and attention to detail. We get a stable company that makes our amazing hobby that much more awesome.

Then again, that's easy for me to say- I hardly have any money to spend on this stuff in the near future anyway!

Regardless, here's to many more years of creativity and fun! Thanks, Stefan.

March! Thank you! Now that I have a date I can organize my spendings hehe.

Thank you for the update. I am glad that the new tiles set will be caverns and very exited that they will be 2x2! This means they will be able to enhance our already owned resin sets! I hope the paint scheme matches.

Cavern kickstarter:
After talking with the factories, it seems that the best way to go will be a 2" x 2" footprint for Cavern Pieces...otherwise we will not get significant cost savings...I WILL be using multiple sculptures for walls and corners so there will be much variety...i will use all my skills and experience, working with the talented Casey (catacombs) to make this an awesome Cavern utilizing the 2" x 2" footprint to it's best advantages, and it does have some advantages over 4' x 4" it can make small configurations and more closely match excisting modules for this reason..

Hmmm, I'm wondering how this will go. I imagine the basic sets will consist of these sort of pieces (broken down from 4x4 to 2x2)

and the free stretch goals would consist of these type of pieces:

Perhaps 'Add-On's might consist of lake pieces?

I think it will be entirely new sculpts that will add insane versatility to all of us who have 4x4 caverns....though I am guessing it might be next to impossible to match the color scheme.
