TOPIC: Updates on Restocking
#53836
Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year, 1 Month ago
In regards to Limited Edition sets and them selling out after only 1500 sets:

So far only a single LE set has sold out, and that was after many years being offered for sale. Until this changes, I don't see why DF would (or should) change their policy.

At the same time, DF should avoid cutting into the sales of their primary resin lines (MM/dungeon, cavern, MBS, and catacombs) by making sure that future Dwarvenite lines don't duplicate existing resin sets.

I will not be mixing Dwarvenite and MM pieces. I may use one or the other for outer walls vs inner walls of a structure, or different rooms separated by passages, but I think that the stonework is different enough that they won't quite look right (at least, to me) side by side.

Dwarvenite sets should not replace resin sets. They should be alternatives that fulfill the same general role, but differ sufficiently that they do not eliminate the desire to pick up resin sets. The dungeon Game Tiles should not reproduce specific pieces from MM expansion sets like the goblin arch or the mermaid fountain. Cavern Game Tiles should be some other type of cavern, not the same as the existing Caverns line. Game Tiles buildings might be wood, instead of wattle-and-daub like MBS.

The object should be to provide inexpensive sets for gamers with limited finances or thrifty spending habits, while continuing to sell the more detailed (and possibly more extensive) resin sets to gamers with more discretionary income and the desire to buy more environments.

jackattack,

Are you suggesting they keep both Dwarvenite and resin basic tiles? Wouldn't this split their sale of both and in the end lower their ability to keep stock and increase the price of both as their sales would be less for each?

I would make the basic sets dwarvenite and limit resin for the limited edition or special support sets. I would never have "basic" sets in both materials. But that is just my thinking, I am sure they will let us know their plans when they are ready.

Not necessarily, especially if there is enough difference between the various sculpts. Some customers might only want one type of building, for example, but others might want both. Some customers might have a preference for one over the other aesthetically. Some customers may also change their spending as their incomes change (hopefully upward).

As for stocking, I hope that some of the capital raised by the kickstarter (and an increased customer base) will solve previous stocking issues. If a standard restock of resin sets sells more quickly than previous restocks, I expect that DF will either reorder more frequently (possibly staggering the sets reordered), or increase their inventory space at their fulfillment center, or (eventually) both.

Some interesting thoughts jackattack. I will say this, regardless of the format the future takes, I wish DF the best and plan to be here to support them as uch as my budget allows.

I've been a member for years but never posted till now. I love this company and what they bring to the table. (That pun was intended) I felt proud for the little guy(DF), watching them ask for a reasonable amount at the beginning of the kickstarter and then to have the overwhelming support of the gaming community pour in.

Sadly, I dropped away from the forum several years ago because the folks I played with just got too busy. The Kickstarter email brought me back. DF's customer service is the best in the business, any business. I wish I was apart of this company, that's how much I like it.

I feel bad the OP had to wait so long for a response, but Stefan is now asking us for our help in determining what they should bring in.

I think that Catacombs set is a winner and will always be, I definitely look forward to that one getting back in stock.

The Fantasy Floor set is another, lots of useful pieces you cant get anywhere else and a fair price. Even offering up some of these pieces individually would sell well.

Chasm Set, I've been wanting that one for a while. Almost pulled the trigger during the Kickstarter but someone beat me to it. (you know who you are)

Now as far as the core sets, Room and Passages, thats a tough call. Several are turning up on ebay even with them being available on the web site. Some people might be thinning the collection, others moving "bow-tie-less". But the one thing that always seems to be true is if a set is out of stock here it will most likely sell for more aftermarket.

In looking at the success of the Kickstarter and how many people were willing to wait 6 months to receive their order I think if DF could allowed us to pre-order and pay (or partially pay) for the sets we were willing to wait for, that might take some of the sting out of DF having to have cash upfront. Then they can still order extras knowing they have several sold ahead of time.

This will be off the subject but:

What about offering some resin sets unpainted? I mean you guys know the numbers of the kickstarter it might not be bad to offer the base cavern sets unpainted if the cost savings make sense to you and the customers. Which leads me to this soon to be patented idea...

Several people have been asking about a cavern set in the dwavenite, so I've been thinking (and drawing). Since there are restrictions to what can be performed with the material or mold, what if DF offered a Tunnel set sort of cross-over set. It's escape tunnel-like, mine-shaft like, throw in a couple support timbers pieces and caveins pieces even some mineral deposits, possible some dwarven script or runes and wa-la a million dollar idea or possibly a 1.9 million dollar idea. :)

That's my first two cents worth, wait until i throw in the nickel.

Welcome to the DF forum dogsmile,

Is this what you have in my mind for a tunnel set: ainstycastings.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/38/products_id/571

That's really nice looking set. I was picturing something more recently burrowed. Something a group of thieves or escaping prisoners would dig out. Maybe some mountain tunnels that the crazy old man dug out searching for that forgotten ancient treasure filled tomb.

Thanks for that link. I'll check it out more closely when I get home.

is the upshot of the restock world that we are probably looking at September (or October) for a restock?

sigh - ready to order 3*catacombs, water (1*lakes/2*rivers) and 2 each of WA3/AB2.

patience is a virtue
(that's what I keep telling myself)

I will be extremely virtuous by the fall.

If the order has already gone in, then 4-7 months for delivery means October at the earliest, and possibly as late as January. Hopefully it's closer to October.

They have really nice items! I'm not sure the mine set will work in a fantasy setting like the medieval times though?

Tunnel mining goes back into prehistory.

Medieval mining features included ore carts, sometimes pulled by ponies and/or mounted on rudimentary wooden rails, and water pumps to prevent flooding.

And where there are dwarves, there are mines.
