TOPIC: Updates on Restocking

Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Thanks for the response, Stefan!

I know I have a spreadsheet of sets that I want to purchases -- currently at 37 sets -- all DOE/HS/ROTA/Caverns. I'd probably pull the trigger on 2/3rd to all of them when they become stocked (unless some other crazy kickstarters deplete my fun money)

I have a ton of Game Tiles coming, which is why I haven't included any of those sets in my list. I pledged at the Master Patron level, so I will have one set of Game Tiles (soon, soon, you will be mine, **cackles**). I purchased one existing R&P set to be able to compare the two side by side in person. I'm actually expecting to decide that I'll want more classic master maze to mix in -- which will also mean all the various AB/WA sets will be needed too.

However I can totally understand the difficulty in restocking such as wide line as you have, with what I suspect are fairly large minimum order numbers for each set.

Would it make sense to build out a "kickstarter-lite" style pre-order store for sold out sets:
* offer the option to pre-order, which represents a commitment to buy (using a amazon-payments style cc authorization capture)
* once the minimum order size is reached, send out an email to people who are watching, letting them know the order is imminent and letting them add on
* charge all the credit cards, place the order (maybe tacking whatever level of warehouse stocking you want)

Given the way the cc-authorizations work, I think people would have to re-authorize every 90 days or so, which is a touch annoying, but I think this protects both you and customers Of course, shipping might require you to restock multiple sets at once, so that might complicate things too much....

Dear stefan & jeff;

I am one of the people brought into this aspect of the rpg/wargaming hobby by the kickstarter. 10 sets and 11 addons.

Since then i have added 40 sets of resin to my collection. 9 new sets & about 12 accessories/single peices (mostly limited items)
I have been able to trade warhammer miniatures for 28 sets.

While this means i have a nice collection of resin, I still have major holes in my collection.

My want list looks something like this.

2 Lakes sets
2 Rivers sets
2 Chasm sets
2 catacombs
4 medieval building sets
2 mbs wild expansions
1 wa one
2 wa 3
2 abs 2
1 narrow corridors
1 DoE room
1 caverous passages
1 ice caverns
2 limited woodlands
2 DoE teleport 4" squares
2 ice cavern 4" squares
2 ice snakes
More accessory kits
Alpha & beta sci-fi kits

I picked up 6 room kits in trade and will get 10 more in the ks. I dont think i need more of those but I may want more of the T, + and L corridors (at least one set if not more) and more curved corridors for both fantasy & sci-fi.

I have 1 set of the narrow corridors and will want more (secret passages!)

You have a challenge in that Dwarvinite sets may cannibalize some of your resin sales.

You will always be able to sell the limited and unique sets. The difficulty will arise in sets avalable in both resin and PVC. The price discrepancy will push people (especially new collectors without a reson inventory) to the mre cost effective side of PVC. This is not nessecarily a bad thing. Basic sets with a basic price to get people to enter the system. Single peices in resin to allow people to augment their sets with a few peices of resin beauty. These resin peices will ecourage the price sensitive to see the benefits of the resin sets and add some of those to their collections. 2 starter sets become 5 sets becomes 10 sets with 2 resin sets and 1 or 2 resin unique addon single peices.

I would agree with being cautious in restocking rooms. I would restock corridors at a higher level. Yo may want to put a corridor set out with all the corridors ( 1 +, 2 T, 2 curved, and 3 or 4 L). Restock the narrow and cavernous passages as per normal. Given thier scarcity and pent up demand cavernous passages may need a percentile increase over normal stock levels.
Restock the limited sets as normal. Restock the non PVC sets (catacombs, mbs, water, etc ) at good levels depending on the restock notification data available from your website.

I will be acquiring the new sets as they are made available along with trying to catch up on the older sets as they restock.

I appreciate the complexity of managing your inventory with limited resources and with such a long lead time for ordering from your factories.

As a side note i have told the people that participate in our weekly game store encounter sessions that the wotc gameday special adventure (Vault of the Dracolich) will use DF for the final encounter session on june 15th. I may have to proxy some ice cavern peices in as reg caverns to make it work but the players seem particularly excited by the idea of using the dwarven forge peices I have been gathering for the last 2 months.

Thank you Stefan for your explanation of the process and your thoughts.

Having come in new from the Kickstarter I have also been collecting other resin sets to augment the coming Game Tiles. While I really enjoy looking at the resin Room and Passage style pieces I must honestly admit that the likelihood of my buying another set once the Game Tiles have arrived is almost zero. This is simply because I don't want to mix and match the two different mediums when building a dungeon that is supposed to be homogeneous.

Here is what I would prefer seeing restocked, in order, and how much I plan to buy as funds permit.

1, Catacombs Sets. (Any) About five.
2, Cavernous Lake Set. Probably just one or two.
3, Medieval Building Set. Three Sets.
4, Narrow Passage Set. Two sets.
5, Cavernous Chasm Set. One Set.
6, Cavernous Lake Expansion Set
7, Cavernous River and Wall Set
8, Cavernous Passage Set. Two sets.

I know that isn't much to go on, but if it gives you an idea of what people are looking for I'm happy to help. Also, I would support a pre-order style system, if that works with your business model, and would certainly place a large order if that was available. Especially for anything from the Catacombs line. ;)

Stefan, thanks for the response, sounds like the money I was holding to spend at Gen Con again this year can go elsewhere sadly. Like most everyone else I am more interested in the limited editions and the stuff that has been out of stock for a really long time (Cavern stuff) I hate giving my money to ebay to get the stuff I want :( But seems for some sets that will be the only way I can get them this year.

The Kickstarter really generated interest but how long will the interest and demand remain if nothing else can be bought. Even on the used market the Kickstarter has caused pries to go up to crazy levels as people are scrambling to buy sets.

I would also be willing to pay in advance like others have suggested in order to get a guarentee on the sets I want. It's tough when a customer has a lot of money to spend at a retailer but they have no stock to sell.

Wow, thanks for the response, Stefan!

I do understand how difficult this is. Order too much and you're expending money on stock that's just sitting around, and you have to store it, to boot! Order too little and you're losing sales. Remember that computer game Lemonade Stand from, like, 1981? ;)

I am glad to see so many people posting wish lists. Hopefully that will provide you with guidance about how to restock.

For me -- here's what I my year-long plan looks like.

I need to pick up a basic room set and ruins set, both of which are in stock right now actually. Hoping they stay that way another month or so, because I can't pull the trigger right now (not after getting the woodland set, the catacombs, and a few accessory sets!)

As for the re-stock, I'd like to get:

- at least one more catacombs set, maybe two
- whenever Catacombs 2 comes in, at least one of that. Depending on its contents, maybe two
- DEFINITELY need a basic ROTA set
- DEFINITELY need a chasm set

I'm also considering a Den of Evil room set, and an MBS expansion set.

After that, it gets a little hazier. But those are all the "top of my list" items. I'm still recovering from the damage after I moved, and I'm realizing the other advantages to keeping the original boxes as well. It makes it easier to find things, and easier to store them. You know exactly what you get in every box, you know you can move things around without hurting the stuff, and it stacks easily, boxes on boxes.

Thanks again for the thoughtful reply!

Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I backed 5 GT sets, and then bought 2 Room and Passages sets on ebay. My particular desire to buy more room sets is almost 0, and if I were going to, I would, more likely than not, go with less expensive Dwarvenite. I really do have enough "basic" shapes and pieces at this point.

I am hoping and praying for a Caverns Kickstarter, for the same reason, and can easily see myself getting *at least* 3 sets, and all add ons.

With that being said, My personal wishlist would be as follows, in this order:

Catacombs 1 - 2 sets: (I really love these sculpts)
Catacombs 2 - 1 set, maybe 2 depending on pieces released
Fantasy Floors - 1 set : I think these can be used in a lot of different ways
Lake Sets - 1 set of *each one produced*
Medieval Building - 1 set, possibly 2: Who doesn't want a tavern???
Medieval Building Expansion - 1 set, just to flush out the tavern
Wicked Additions 3 - 1 Set (I have WA 1&2, or these would be at the top of my list)
Ruins - 1 Set (I know this is in stock, my wallet is really hurting)
Advanced Builder 2 - I have AB1, and the options in 2 are really useful. You don't even realize how useful until you have the set.
Sewers - 1 Set, depending on pieces, and I know these aren't finished yet.

Everything else I want is a Limited Ed Set (DoE + Addons are beautiful,) but I really think I'm just going to need to scour eBay. I would love to be buying in on the Hellscape sets, as well as RotA, but without the "room sets" to build upon, it's a little harder to start with "additions."

I love the Woodlands set, but I doubt I would use it very much.

Sci Fi isn't my thing, though I will be the first to say those sets are beautiful.

Hope this helps, Stefan. I know this is a collossal undertaking, and a lot of "hoping and estimating."

Just to add to the wish list trend...

I would pick up:

1 or 2 Catacombs sets
1 or 2 Catacombs 2 sets
1 Fantasy Floor Set

If made in Dwarvenite I would also like:

Room and Passage sets
Narrow Passage sets
Advanced Builder sets
Wicked Additions sets

Hope this helps.

Just to change my aggregated wish list to a more detailed wish list like others have posted:

In priority order for me:
3 Catacombs I
3 Catacombs II
3 Cavern Set (Resin, even if GT are coming soon)
3 Cavernous Passage
2 Lake
2 River
1 Lake Expansion
3 Chasm
2 RotA I
3 RotA II

leaving off the next 12 of my list...

Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year, 4 Months ago
My perspective as a newcomer from the Kickstarter:

My first priority is covering my table. This was impossible for me given the cost of the resin sets, but Dwarvenite made it reality. If I need additional sets in bulk, I'll have to wait for Dwarvenite editions, and it sounds like that may be the case for both Caverns and Passages. Hope to see those happen.

My second priority is dungeon dressing and cool sets to use as focal pieces of the campaign. This includes everything to extend and complement what Dwarvenite doesn't / can't / won't cover. I would love to see new resin products specifically designed to fill that gap. The more dungeon dressing you can provide, the better, such that I can continue to support DF instead of buying this stuff elsewhere.

So to get to the point... If I had the cash right now, and Catacombs were in stock, that would be my first resin purchase. Why? Catacombs are cool focal pieces, extend my playable area, and appear to complement the Dwarvenite set well. (I'm also not expecting the level of detail seen in the Catacombs to work so much in PVC.) I hope enough sets of Catacombs II are produced to still be in stock by the time I can afford more!

Cavernous Lakes are just too awesome in resin, and I'd be tempted to make those my second or third resin purchase, entirely depending on how a Dwarvenite version compares. It may be worth having both.

The Den of Evil (Wicked Additions), Fantasy Floor, and Wicked Additions #3 sets would all make for great decoration, but all are out of stock. No interest in Sci-Fi sets, since they don't directly complement the Dwarvenite line. Hellscapes would be nice to have, but I see no reason they can't be done in PVC one day, so my wallet will wait and see.

Re:Updates on Restocking 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Thank you so much guys! lot's of VERY helpful information here...i know it's a short list of folks but it really does help....anyone else reading this your responses are greatly needed...perhaps we can work out a quick survey of sorts...in the meantime, this un official one is very useful...so thanks!

We are leaning to making new complex styles in Limited edition for Resin...things which we estimate to sell in the range of 600-1200 or so sets...too small a quantity to invest in $10,000 molds...

in order to make sense to invest in $10,000 molds we would probably need quantities of at least 3000 sets...even in this quantity the retail cost would not be as low as the crazy prices we were able to offer in the last kickstarter...we were able to get great low prices because we were manufacturing over 200,000 wall pieces alone! 3000 sets would get us about 42,000 wall pieces if we were making a standard type design (room)so the factory mass produced price would not be so low....it would be OK and less than resin but not really low...

If we do another kickstarter,

I think we can sell 3000 Cavern Sets so it makes sense to do it in Dwarvenite

I think we can sell 3000 passage Sets + advanced builder type stretch goals in Dwarvenite

OK, Jeff is probably going to Kill me for revealing to much behind the curtain so I'm going to stop now....beans everywhere!

Whatever we do we will always make sure it is the pinnacle of dungeon design and beauty in whichever medium it is, we don't do this for the money (although that doesn't hurt) we do it because we love to do it, it's fun, and we are passionate about it....we also love being part of a bigger community, the gamers, and are on a crusade to make sure we all don't turn into drones staring at screens or smart phones taking route A or B as it is presented to us....we want more than that, the unlimited options that live RPG's allow, to stay human, and for the younger generation to realize the joys of sitting around a table with friends, being creative and expressing our fantasies and emotions, the silliness and creativity together...it's the start of the Gaming Renaissance friends! please get a copy of GYGAX magazine...the first issue was awesome, the second issue is a few weeks away....Luke Gygax is carrying the torch, he has been given the gifts of the father, he just might be the torch bearer for a new generation and I will do my part!

All of this sounds fantastic... i ask only one thing:

PLEASE do the two Kickstarters separately and a LONG time apart!

I know i speak for many out there when i say i spent my gaming budget for the YEAR on the first Kickstarter (happily!). I am used to spending my gaming budget $20 or $30 at a time occasionally popping $60 for the latest hardcover must have. Spending ten times that on a kickstarter was awesome, but not something i can repeat naytime soon. I desperately want Caverns and Passage and advance builder stuff would be awesome too, but i need time to save a little bit before the next whallop hits.

Thanks!

PS - Totally agree with the continued support and love for resin. I still think it has it's place as the pinnacle that all of us dwarvenite minions can aspire to! (OMG am i playing Basic D&D???)
