TOPIC: Updates on Restocking

Re:Updates on Restocking 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I don't and won't follow the kickstarter idea and gametiles project.
Less détails, no paint and the same price than the resin.
To me the collection is terminated as a "core" fan & ex-customer.

If I count the number of sets I own and the rarity of some, I must approach 10 000€ now which is a good investissement after all !
It are also enough pieces to play with.

Today I only look for old resin set I missed now which is resuming in the beta set of Sci Fi and the colored hall of the ROTA. I wait for an offer.

I really hope DF will release the sewer, catacomb 2 & ice caverns 2 in resin as it was promised since the begining.
In this only case I will be a returning Customer and won't be angry against the price since it are definitively the last we may have.

I have been checking a couple times a week for several months for a restock and just now saw this thread lol. I am so glad I didn't sell the sets I have and am looking forward to the resin cavern sets coming back in stock. The kickstarter is great but with all of the kids grown and gone and with my very own game room I'll wait for the resin restock.

A castle sounds great and I've toyed with a notion of a "to map scale" castle Ravenloft from the original I6 module but the project remains a fantasy for obvious reasons however, with a DF modular castle I could possibly do it with 20 or 30 sets :)

With about 8k of resin and 1k of dwarvinie, I understand the views of the resin collectors but i like and have a use for the dwarvinite line.

Dwarvinite is portable beyond belief and it fits my needs for in-store play.

Resin, on the other hand, are gorgeous works of art that demand quiet moments of appreciation.

The two line have different uses in my plans but do intersect.

I just want more of both lines.

Well said Galahad... I think that effectively and succinctly captures what 99% of us feel and hope.

From what i can tell, i believe that Stefan feels the same as well ;)

Here is hoping for many more years of beautiful and usable art from DF!

Cavern kickstarter:
After talking with the factories, it seems that the best way to go will be a 2" x 2" footprint for Cavern Pieces...otherwise we will not get significant cost savings...I WILL be using multiple sculptures for walls and corners so there will be much variety...i will use all my skills and experience, working with the talented Casey (catacombs) to make this an awesome Cavern utilizing the 2" x 2" footprint to it's best advantages, and it does have some advantages over 4' x 4" it can make small configurations and more closely match excisting modules for this reason...thanks for all the great suggestions!

I'm guessing you have a lot of tricks and knowledge of creating repeatable patterns but I came across this awhile back (I'm a multimedia developer) and it was an interesting read:
The Cicada Pattern
An excerpt:
every 7, 13, or 17 years these periodical cicadas simultaneously emerge en masse, transform into noisy, flying creatures, find a mate, and die not long after...

As it turns out, these numbers have something in common. They’re all prime numbers—numbers that can only be divided by themselves and 1 (that is 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, and so on)...

A few weeks ago we looked at the process of making seamless tiles. As super-useful as seamless tiles are, it can be tough to get the balance just right.

On one hand you want to keep the file dimensions as small as possible to take best advantage of the tiling effect. However, when you notice a distinctive feature — for instance, a knot in some woodgrain — repeating at regular intervals, it really breaks the illusion of organic randomness.

Maybe we borrow some ideas from cicadas to break that pattern?...

As you can see, the tiles overlap and interact to generate new patterns and colors. And as we’re using magical prime numbers, this pattern will not repeat for a long, long time.

Do we have a timeframe for the caverns kickstarter?

On page 6 of this thread, Stefan mentions January. I bet it has slipped a little since then, so February-March is more in line with what I have been expecting, but I am not entirely sure where I got that impression.

So we'll have 2 kickstarters before we get the resin restocks? Does not look good for the resin line IMO.

Any word on what resin sets will be restocked?

Stefan has specifically stated that DF will continue to stock and support resin even though the profit margin is reduced because of the rising costs of resin. It's also been stated that there are several new sculpts and designs in the work for resin products.

So for the time being yes, you can count on more resin sets in the future.

If a time comes when it is no longer cost effective you will see costs of resin sets rise, and it is possible that the cost of resin sets reaches a point where it is out of the affordable price point of the average gamer.

Guess what? It's already out of the affordable price point of the average gamer which is why they are exploring a new line in the first place. =)

There is no doubt that both resin, and Game Tiles lines have a future with Dwarven Forge.

Part of the reason I like supporting Dwarven Forge (other than the great terrain) is that they are a U.S.A. based company of artists. With that in mind, I'm a little perturbed that the Europe stocks of resin river, and lake sets were restocked, but the U.S.A. sets were not and there wasn't a peep (that I heard) of when we would have our sets restocked. Europe was also stocked with Den of Sorrow and the U.S. not. It feels like a bit of a slap in the face. Why weren't both stores restocked? If the U.S. stock is coming soon, why not tell us. If these sets are being replaced with the K.S. cavern river and lake sets why restock either store. So many questions and us the customers ignored and not updated. sigh

I was under the impression that European (and other non-US) customers had to pay international shipping costs if they wanted to participate in the kickstarter. I think throwing a few Chamber of Sorrows sets their way is not unreasonable.

The whole point of having a European distributor is have a financially independent arm of Dwarven Forge overseas. Their restocks are based on their sales and their finances. I'm very happy that E-DF is doing well, and that their customers can buy more resin DF.

I believe that Stefan has posted that a resin restock is coming in early 2014. DF postponed the resin restock to see exactly how the KS profits come out, to make sure they didn't overextend themselves. Stefan also explained that it takes just as long to make MasterMaze as it does to make GameTiles, so a restock wouldn't arrive until months after an order gets placed (and money changes hands).

I hope that the lack of information is due to time being spent developing product, managing finances, and arranging for a restock. But DF is not required to tell us anything. We are customers, not investors.

If I'm not mistaken it was stated a while back that DF Europe was going to be receiving a limited quantity of the CoS stuff. Their restocks do not necessarily happen at the same time as the US either. When the US gets restocked DF Europe does not necessarily benefit and vice-versa. From what I understand, some of the Europe restocks get sent over there from the US and can even spend some time in customs limbo. Besides, Stefan has said they had quality issues with the water material and that he would prefer not to place any more orders for sets using it until after that was resolved. It may have something to do with the curing conditions... He is very passionate about delivering a quality product and I would not be surprised to find out that he takes any thing he perceives as a failure of quality very personally.

Stefan often comments and answers questions in the forums, so some of these get communicated, but they don't always get to everyone looking for them.

I don't feel like there is any disrespect to the American consumers, just a small bone being thrown to the European fans.

Re:Updates on Restocking 11 Months, 1 Week ago
I know there will be more resin sets restocked and new ones. But alot of the basic sets are out of stock, they were suppost to do a restock back in august. Then the first Kickstarter hit and all I hear on this site is Kickstarter Kickstarter Kickstarter.

Then the august restocks got pushed back until March. 7 month delay. Most likely due to the kickstarter.

Now we still don't have the resin restocked yet and there is talk of another kickstarter?

Will this push the resin restocks back again?

Don't blame the resin restock issues on the Dwarvenite KS.

The resin issues are resin issue.

The success of Dwarvenite is not hurting resin if anything it is helping Dwarven Forge stay in the black while the resin issues are being fixed.
