Lights 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Hello everyone (1st post ever)

I was wondering if there might be plans to make a set that would be nothing but pieces with the new torch lights? I would love to be able to add those pieces to my dungeon sets. A couple of 10 ft hallways, some corner pieces and wall pieces just off the top of my head. Maybe even a torch bearer mini to go with the party so we can turn out the lights. If it sells other lighting sets could be made available for the cavern sets or the limited edition sets.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. Our options are limited due to the need for battery space and the LED bulb...but I think you will see more of this type of piece in the future.

Given that the battery and LED almost completely eliminate all usable floor space on the Catacomb corner piece, I think that any future lighted pieces will be one of two types.

1) Completely devoted to the lighting effect and apparatus. Big fireplaces, bonfires on raised daises, glowing crystal column, etc.

2) Large pieces with small or multiple lighting effects. Torches on a 6" wall, new Cavern pieces, 6"x6" floor pieces with a central feature, etc.

It is possible to make piece with light with minimal space loos. Here is a piece that a did a few years ago and posted here (some may remember it)

I made a video too but I don't know how to upload it here

Note that placement of the fire in the middle of the piece eliminates most of the useful floor space on the tile -- there isn't a whole 1"x1" square left to place a mini. Had the fire been moved over to one corner of the tile, it would have three squares left to put a mini.

A picture of the bottom of the piece would be very illustrative concerning piece size in relation to electronics. Are your electronics improvised directly in the resin, or are they in a mass-produced plastic mount like the catacombs corner piece? If you used a factory-made LED and battery housing, then lighted pieces can be made in traditional sizes; if not, then your custom piece is not representative of the size mass production may require.

Yes, At this moment we must use the size we have...note also, that the bigger size holds 3 batteries and so, I assume lasts 3 times as long...anyway, If I can find a smaller mass produced component that is also still affordable I will of course, use it....I have been told smaller electronics are not cost effective....while some folks would be willing to pay much higher prices for such things, I am not sure everyone would be willing to pay say, $25 for 1, 2" wide wall with torch which lasts much less than our current corner fireplace....

That being said, Casey has already sculpted some new Pieces for catacombs 2 set which include lights...these will be along a straight wall, and also in the center floor areas...they are really Awesome!

Expect to see them in late 2013!

I used different "tea candle" LED. The ones that use 3 batteries take too much space. I've found some that use one single flat one (like the ones for the watches).

I could have placed it on the corner of the floor, it would have made squares more usable, I didn't thought of that when I was drilling. Yet I use plaster, maybe it would have been too fragile

The only space used on my example is the height of the battery under the fire. About 4mm.
It has no switches either, I just remove the battery when not in use.
