Crooked T-Intersection and straight River Floor 4 Years, 1 Month ago
Hello, last Friday I finally received my first two Cavernous River and Walls Sets. They are just beautiful. But I noticed something strange:

One of the T-Intersection River Floor pieces is crooked. And while some minor height differences between the individual pieces are most likely inevitable through the manufacturing process, this “crooked” piece slights so much to the left that it is clearly noticeable on the game table.

I made a few photos so you can see what I mean with “crooked”.

On the pictures (sorry for the bad quality) you can see that the “water” from the left T-Intersection is higher than the right one. The water of the right intersection starts with the correct height on the right part of the piece but slides down to the left (the last picture shows this best).

I have the same problem with one of the straight River Floor pieces, all the other pieces are perfect (or with really minimal height differences).
Is this a manufacturing error? Has anyone else the same problem with some of their pieces?

I've had a few pieces that don't quite line up perfectly, but I can't tell if I've had anything quite identical to this problem. Usually the water on my pieces DOES appear to line up properly, but sometimes the "shore" portions don't. You can see in some of the pics I've posted that there are frequently gaps in the "islands" created by the water pieces I use.

If the problem is severe enough to qualify as a mistake in production, DF will probably replace it for you. But minor variations in dimensions are somewhat unavoidable, especially at this scale. Sadly, the water sets seem really prone to these sorts of problems. :(

Everything else lines up properly (and soooo beautifully!). As you said, sometimes there are minor variations in dimensions (or color) and that is totally understandable due to production. And these really really minor differences don't count to my opinion.

But these two pieces seem to be really off balance/uneven, to the point where you clearly and easily see it on the game table. To my opinion this could very well be a mistake in production. Maybe an admin could say something about that?

Side-note: L, congratulations on your great setups! So inspirational!!!

I've got the same problem 2 years ago (or 3) when I order river & lake set.
Since it costs too much to send it back to DF I let it down.
Such problems are rare but it happens.

The Cavernous River and Walls Set and the two Lake Sets are very beautiful...but unfortunately in order to manufacture them there is a lot of hand sanding that needs to be done. One of the reasons it is an expensive set is that the factory has to throw away a lot of the pieces in various levels of manufacturing. (It was tricky to figure out a way to even make these sets -- one of my few credits!)

It would seem that the factory should have thrown your pieces in the reject pile. If you can send them back we can return them for credit, and we can ship you two new ones.

I am sorry for the trouble. Please contact me directly with any other questions at jeff[at}dwarvenforge.com
