Now THAT looks like a counterfeit DF set! The good news is it looks like nobody bid on it.

I was watching that, I wanted to watch how many nuts bid on it. There were several bids before it was pulled down.

I don't see anything wrong with that auction. He isn't claiming they are DF, only saying they work with DF. If anything, Hirst would have to monitor his sales as Hirst has a $1k/year limit clause of their mold results sales.

Lol.

I think people like those perfect DF copies now ...

cgi.ebay.com/D-D-Mage-Knight-Dungeon-Terrain-Similar-Dwarven-Forge-/400163146595?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2b950b63

Hand painted resin, same colors, same pieces of the sets, different prices.

IMHO that is stepping over the line. Just think if someone was making *similar/comptiable* D&D minis that looked exactly like the ones from WoTC...

Re:BE Aware 4 Years ago
The fifth photo on the auction page really does show how little texture and color those pieces have, compared to Dwarven Forge. Note that they use an old bowtie piece in the picture.

Note also that the seller is "officially licensed" by HirstArts. Is there any legal room to make HA responsible for bad conduct by licensees? I doubt that the sale is actionable, but it still rankles when somebody produces a cheap rip-off of DF products, then tries to insist that they are just "DF-compatible".

This has happened a few times in the past few years, and usually there is no issue once I write Ebay or the poster.

I think people are honest...just not fully up on their DF products. They taken the stuff down usually after I write them.

Thanks for the tips.

Re:BE Aware 4 Years ago
Wow - there is quite an uproar here.

As I have sold handmade terrain on e-Bay in the past - a lot of them made using HA - I want to add a few bits from my view.

I only looked at the last auction - so appology if others step further over the line.

I like that people here defend DwarvenForge. But don't go too far if you see somewhere a Dwarvenforge compatible product - and if the seller is clearly labeling it that way.

People are very happy with the latest Ruins Set. How many here have cried foul because Hirst Arts did make some ruin molds first? Even before that I had some ruined walls in my Ice Set.

The prison cell. I build a prison cell a few years ago and sold it as DF compatible to California. Later three prison cells made by my son - he must have been 6 or 7 - went as far as Australia.
These were actually scratch build - but I'm sure I added Dwarvenforge compatible in the line. Othervice it just wouldn't be picked up by people interested in these items.

Now you can say - that's different. You have generated something new, unique.

Yes - I was never interested in mass production. But you will find a lot of novel stuff on e-Bay first. I did spot some lava there before there was the lava set. And an ice set is still outstanding.

I remember Stefan killed the price of my set by announcing they would be interested to make a DF one - it's a few years now and I haven't seen one yet.

Actually to a certain degree it is healthy if people make extra stuff that isn't available yet.

Maybe pure knock-offs are different. But as long as you have a Hirst Art license you should be fine using their molds to make something that is compatible.

I would be careful claiming quality-wise etc.
