I have a LOT of DF sets purchased over the years, and without getting into too much detail most of it could stand a good cleaning. Is it safe to run this stuff through the dishwasher?

I would try one and see what happens.

Good luck!

If you guys weren't sure, I was going to take a small, less used piece and give it a shot. I'll let you know you what comes of it.

I would only go that route if the felt bottoms had already fallen off.

Dust with an air-can...handwash with damp cloth. That's my normal approach.

this is the best approach with dusty object. although I've never used it with a Dwarven forge products. an air can is great for removing dust on pretty much everything.

I had to wash an almost whole setup piece by piece one month ago or so, the pieces were displayed for months unused and had a pretty big amount of dust.

I used a slightly wet cloth and it worked very well, specially with the water sections of the cavern set pieces.

Hope it helps! :-)

Since we're on the subject of DF care, what do you guys usually do if the felt bottoms start to come off of your sets? I have one floor piece that's geting a little ragged.

I would not recommend using a dishwasher. There is paint involved here, and I wouldn't want that to come off inside the dishwasher!

A crafts store (especially one with a fabric section) might carry a close substitute.

If not, brush-on adhesive carefully and sparingly applied can re-secure ragged corners, and spray-on adhesive is pretty good for a new cloth lining (it won't soak through) -- just remember to set the pieces with the bottom up, or resting on tinfoil to avoid it getting stuck to something that won't come off easily.

i wouldn't recommend the dishwasher either.

The felt bottoms would surely come off, and maybe the paitjob could be damaged.
Also by bad luck the heat could cause the pieces to warp.

Think there is no safer way than cleaning the pieces by hand with a big, dry brush.

Good old fashoned Elmer's Glue works great for re-applying loose felt.
