CAVERN PASSAGE SETS NEEDED AND WHICH OTHER SETS ARE ALSO A MUST? 4 Years, 11 Months ago
I have 2 Cavern sets and was wondering if I should also get 2 Cavernous passage sets or if 1 Cavernous Passage set is good enough for now?

Here's my plan...I'm buying around 8-10 more (non sci-fi) sets to compliment those that I already have (as listed in my signature below). I would really appreciate any comments and/or suggestions about which sets would be most useful to get at this time (I have around $1700USD budgeted for this).

Thanks.

With only 2 cavern sets, one Cavernous Passage set might be enough, though having that extra coversion pieces (passage to room) and straight corridors (short & long) from a 2nd set WOULD be very handy.

How about:

2 room sets (must have corners!)
1 Fantasy Floor set
1 ABS2
1 WA2 (for more long walls and large floor tiles)
2 Cavernous Passage
1 Cavern
1 Cavern Chansm

That would do you well on the Plain Fantasy and Cavern, though doesn't really get you into the other two lines (MBS & RotA)

Personally, I would suggest only one cavernous passage set.

As the above-mentioned set does not comply within the DF standard (2"x2", 4"x4" or 6"x6") footprints I find that they tend to consume a considerable amount of table space as compared with other sets.

As a result I find that I seldom use more than one set worth at any time, and I usually create fairly large setups.

If anything, try one first and decide later if you need another one.

Beyond that, Harneloot's suggestions sound spot on, IMHO.

I have found that Narrow Passages are a must, particularly for constructing dungeons from pre-published 3.5/Pathfinder adventures. I have two NP sets and will need another, 2 room sets and will need another, and one R&P set (and I'd consider another, at least if they weren't sold out as they were last time I looked, if it was possible to get more short passageway pieces).

When I am buried amidst my treasures like an ancient Lord, it will be amidst my Dwarven Forge stuff. In a shallow grave, as the purchase of the DF stuff will have left us short of money for my funeral. Or food.

I can't thank our community of DF addicts :) for all the great suggestions. I will start of with just one Cavernous Passage set and get something else.

Of topic: I really don't understand why DF sets don't fly out the retail windows (they're of the highest quality and make for a fun night of gaming) -- why hasn't it become a household requirement. I mean, what ever happened to "Family Night" or "Game Night". Oh well, the good-O-days!

Thanks again.

I don't think that they sell them retail, do they? As for why that is, I guess that they'd only get half the money from a retail sale that they get from selling it themselves, so unless retail sales really were good -- and it'd be hard to imagine a store stocking many sets due to the base cost -- they'd probably mostly be fulfilling customer orders through stores, which would mean less dough for Stefan and Jeff.

Yes, I stand corrected.

Perhaps one or two narrow passage sets and a MBS set as well.

Although the miniatures you use may have an impact upon the potential use of the NP sets (due to the size of the bases). As I use metal minis (so this is not a problem for me) could anyone else either confirm or deny this concern.

Personally I would drop the FF and the extra WA II sets if needs be, to accommodate the above sets.
