The cheapest way to germany is, if you know someone in florida. :-)
A friend of mine ships two den of evil sets to a friend in florida and he ships it for round about 80,- $ to germany. *ggg*
Very important is to take everything out of the boxes so it does not look new and declare it as gift round about 100,- $ worth. A little envelope placed in one box with the price of the sets and you do not have to pay any tax. :))))
I do not know which kind of shipping company he uses. But it works. We try it two times.
Sorry for my bad grammar. I hope you understand what I mean. :(

When I traded in many of my sets for bow-tieless ones last year, I sold the old sets on e-bay. MANY of the people who purchased them were from Europe. I sent the Priority Mail Internatinal from the post office (I think thats what it was called) and never had a problem.

You'd have to trust me, but I'm about to go on 70 days of vacation at the end of June (I'm a teacher) so have lots of free time. If you want to pay Dwarven Forge to ship product to me, then pay me to ship them the cheapest way to you, with whatever customs codes/special instructions you need, I'd be happy to do it. I did this for Lupus for an Ogre's Den from an E-Bay seller that wouldn't ship to Australia.

I love my DF and its hard hearing about people in Europe who can't get all the stuff they want/need.

I'll vouch for you Harneloot :)

It was great, and I managed to get an Ogre's Den :) And, it is the cheapest way to get DF stuff. Specially hard to get Ebay stuff. This particular seller didn't not consider o/s shipping and it was only by Harneloot's kind graces that I managed to snag the set :)

UPS prices are now higher than DHL & FEDEX.(same services quality & speed)

As I order only one set of each (maximum 4 sets in a package if not bing ! -> double prices) it's not a problem.
Try to limit your orders...

I once had the Mad Yank ship some stuff directly to me - surface USPS - to save money. Guess what - he didn't deliver to the next post office but asked to have the package picked up. I never actually told him (Jim - you will probably read this now - sorry - didn't have the heart to tell you earlier) - but he payed $25 above the rate on the web page for the priviledge to get it picked up.

And in this case - as I had a deal - exchange of some of my sets for shipping - it was his own money down the drain. Well - DF can't work that way - or they will be out of business. And they don't make money with us international customers.

Oh WOW! Y'mean, that package was supposed to go TO YOUR DOOR, and you had to go GET IT???
I'm going to have to have a SERIOUS Heart-to-heart talk with my shipper, and find out who dropped the ball on instructions.
And get either a refund, or a credit on the next shipment!

On other matters, mcwulf, shipping has ALWAYS been a problem to Europe and the Pacific Rim. Blame it on these two geographic anomalies called OCEANS. They have a tendency to cause great expense getting past - you can't run a railroad or a truck across them. It requires either a boat or an airplane, and both of them cost more to operate!

/sarcasm
Seriously, shippers are out to make a buck/mark/franc/pound/Euro, and with our friends in OPEC bouncing the price of a barrel all over the landscape, NOBODY can hold a shipping price stable for more than a week or two. Add transit fees and other tariffs, and it's not surprising that DHL has stopped US operations, and what was cheapest through UPS last week will probably come from FedEx this week, and via AirBorne by June. USPS, BTW, has TERRIBLE tracking, but is often the cheapest shipper coming out of the US - but my dead Grandmother can get it to you sooner at that price! UPS has excellent tracking, but bring your wallet - and FedEx costs the most of all. I can say all this after having a new server come in from Dell and FedEx, a camcorder from Adorama and UPS, and a Mother's Day gift from Amazon via USPS that I'm still waiting for, a week after it shipped from Kansas. I rest my case.

I have to agree to most of the point given by my german "suffering comrade". On the other hand, I understand the problems by sending to overseas regions - but I ordered just like mcwulf on more than one occasion last year and I had similar problems concerning the customs papers. I had to pick up every parcel by hand and since not all parcels of one order arrive together (and the USPS tracking system always!! just tracked one parcel, the other one was never updated) I had to go several times to the office. If DF could just make the paperwork correctly it would spare us money and (most important) time. The customs people confirmed, that they held the sets back because of the missing papers, not because of the question if this stuff had to be charged with customs duties.

To the shipping prices: I am planning (and already did so last year) to combine shippment with other people in Germany (and Europe) and therefore I took the pain to analyse the costs for different weights, boxes etc. Here is a comparison based of weight:
weight - cost in 12/09 - cost today
10 lbs - $100.60 - $106.00
20 lbs - $139.10 - $148.50
40 lbs - $216.10 - $233.50

For the 40 lbs ths is an increase of 8%, for the 10 lbs it's under 5%. This is annoying, yes, but taken into account what we buy here it comes to a meager 1.7% increase. Well, okay - the products increased as well, so we hit an increase of 10.5% for 8 room sets (to come to 40 lbs ;)).

That is a pain in the a**, and since I was planning on getting 3 ROTA2 sets I really have to consider. Is it possible to get the sets on another way? I already asked via email some weeks ago but never got a response. I could wait two month if it would get cheaper - I have dozens of people here lingering to get their hands on DF stuff, but I even couldn't get in my expanses by selling one set of a bigger order on ebay! And THAT's real weird!

Well, to get to the end: I LOVE all the DF stuff I have seen so far and I am willing to buy more, promote them on local convention, but it is getting harder every day. And if someone is willing to to combine an order of ROTA2 sets or different stuff - I'll be glad! If I order I will take three sets, so I'll have my own entrance ;-)

Happy hunting,
Timo

Well I just looked into shipping something to Australia and USPS no longer offers anything cheaper than Priority Mail now. Well actually they offer First Class shipping but for anything over a few pounds that is not available.

So UPS is not looking so bad anymore.

Jim

Seems I missed your answer as I'm not around here that much - no - it was dropped to my door steps. Or at least for 50 pence (more likely) being hold at a Post office near by - as both myself and my wife work and this is a service I prefer towards redelivery (or being left outside my house which is on a busy road with lots of people walking past).

What I was eluding to was a $25 discrepancy between the cost I looked up on the web, the cost of postage on the box and the cost you told me you paid to the company picking it up.

As far as I remember you didn't bother to walk (well - you are in the US - so driving is more likely) to the post office but rather had some shipper have it picked up. Well - the difference - as far as I could tell - was $25 which you would have saved when you would have gone to the post office.

I added this here - because I think it is relevant to all the customers here who look up a cost on the internet - and just assume this is all the cost that is needed for shipping. As soon as you add a middleman - you have to add some extra.

Well - I look forward to more information about a European distributor. Really hope this will work out.

Sean

now you feel my pain, it costs more for shipping then it costs for the actual item (though if you buy more, which I would, it becomes less, but still very expensive). I was thinking I could finally start buying some dwarven forge, now I have a bit of money - but Oh, the shipping is humongous...

I have patience, I can wait, I dont need priority air mail for $141.50 for ONE room and passage set. Add to this the australian dollar and its now an endeavour I can't afford.

Is there any possibility of normal shipping being added for Australia?
