Fixing the water of the water log trap piece? 5 Years, 5 Months ago
Hi,

I finally found some sets by a shop here in the Netherlands. I've bought a room and passage set, the trap set 1 and a tile set to start my collection. I'm really impressed and it all looks great. In real live it looks even nicer then on the pictures.

I do have a problem with my water trap piece (the one with the log). (It still has the bow tie connectors, so i suspect the are some older production pieces). It looks like the transparant plastic that is used to create the water has melted a bit and then sticked to the plastic bag it was packed in. Now it looks like there is ice on the water (cool effect, but i prefer it without :-)). Now i was wondering if maybe it is possible to reheat the plastic with a hairdryer and let it flatten out itself. Is this possible? Or is there some other way to fix my problem?

Greetings from the Netherlands,
Crimlock

Hi Crimlock -
Welcome !!

I have the same problem with mine - just never got around to asking about it. I was thinking of trying to pour a thin layer of Water Effects (for railroad modellers) or other epoxy over the top but wasn't sure how that would work. Who knows, even white glue (Elmer's) might work but I'd expect that would release (pull) from the existing water fairly easily.

Any ideas out there?

Any tips from the guys at DF? Have you seen this before ?

Thanks for the offer, but the sending costs for me will be that high that it is easier for me to buy a new one :-).

I would still like to find a solution for the problem. Could you maybe tell me with what material you've created the water? From my line of work i know a little bit about plastics and maybe i can find a solution that will resolve some of the plastic, or everyting so i can put in a new bit. Also if i know what plastic it is i can find out if it is possible to reheat it (and more important to what kind of degree) to deform it. Some plastics are reformable, but some will burn and this will make the problem even worse. If you don't want to post this kind of information on the website i can understand, but then maybe you could send me a personal message.

I don't think that adding another layer is going to work i'm afraid. I think that it will remain visible, so it wouldn't become nice and smooth. Unless the new layer will react with the current layer and dissolve a little bit.
