Fun Fact: I'm sure this set will have utility for sci-fi gamers as alien ruins...

Ancients sounds like a very interesting set, and I look forward to seeing what it turns out to look like. Very interesting.

But my hopes still are pinned on eventually (2009?) getting a lava set and an ice set.

Sight unseen, don't know if it will be my particular cuppa, I'm already pleased. One of DF's strengths has always been versatility, and one aspect of that versatility has always been that the sets are fairly generic. While they are definitely of a style, there is nothing to lock that style to a definite place or period.

As beautiful as a full-on Egyptian set would be (with all the heiroglyphs and artwork) would be, that's all it would be. From what's been said, the new set will evoke a certain look, and be easily "dressed" with accessories to come closer to that look, but it can be used for many other things without THAT player going "Why is the elven temple an Egyptian tomb?"

So does it look more like an outdoors 'plonk down' set (ruins above ground) or is it an internal coridoors/room (ruins below ground) or is it suitable for both?

As a long time Conan player, I am getting really interested in this set!
I agree that a more generic feel is going to be more useful (and probably sell more sets) than specifics like egypt etc.

Sounds fantastic !!!! Sign me up !!!!

And now ...
... the next request in the progression of information release ...

PICTURES, PLEASE !!!!!

I can't wait for this (yeah, like every other new environment that DF has put out over the last few years ... OK, I admit it, I am a fanboi ... admission is the first step) !!!!

And I agree completely, an exclusively Egyptian setting would have been too limiting. Very cool, but too limiting.

Guys, you've done it. For sure. Even before seen any pictures.

I think this Ancients Idea is pure genious. I always tend to think/feel that my ideas on what I would like to see next in the stores are best than most manufacturer's ideas, or at least, better than what the manufacturers at last put on the shelves of the stores.

Only Dwarven Forge has me saying "Hey this is far much better than what I wanted to see!!!".

Amazing work, friends. I'm in!!!

I love Stefan's idea of creating small "booster" sets (accesories or floors/doors/walls) to convert/add to the DF sets to make them Egyptian, catacombs, sewers or whatever. I would support that idea to the end. I would like to say that this idea could give us a freakin' awesome spiders' cave set... I would beg on my knees for that.

Greetings,
arsthein

I can't wait. A set of 'all purpose' Ancient Ruins is a very versatile idea. The DM can fashion the setting with any ancient culture or beasts he chooses. This set can offer a wide range of possibilities for many a campaign.

The idea of Hyperborian or Stygian ruins is just to damn COOL. I believe you can't go wrong with that old school Conan Sword and Sorcery feel.

I'm glad it's not an Egyptian set, as that is so desert oriented. Plus Grendel has tons of Egyptian sets already.

We have created a set very different in feel than an underground labyrinth. It is like a blank Papyrus or Vellum scroll waiting for your imagination and creativity to flesh it out.

Blairgb is the soothsayer on this one.

Hope your minds will be as excited as mine...

OMG -- Bring on the Ancients!!!!

PS-- I got chills when I read Stefan's quote! Could you guys just imagine what it would be like to play in a D&D adventure with Stefan as the DM?!

Would that be twisted and fun, or what??

Sign me up for 3 sets of the Ancients!
