TOPIC: Tavern set?

Tavern set? 7 Years, 5 Months ago
So I've had my new sets for a few days now. Time to look to the horizon!

OK, I'm exaggerating. It's going to be a long time before the well runs dry with these sets -- I'm going to be having fun with them for ages.

But...

I DO want to know when the Tavern Set pre-order is going to be up, though. And, for that matter, the full pics and details about what the set includes (and price, of course).

From what has been said, I'm anticipating a $30-$40 set featuring pretty much what we've seen. If that's the case, it's gonna be real tempting to get multiples, just so we can stock up on beds and food accessories. Man, I'm looking forward to this set!

I do wonder, though -- with the beds, is it still a "tavern set"? Maybe I'm being ignorant, seems more like an inn set.

Ah well. When do we get to pre-order?

It's an inn, it's a tavern, it's a medieval cottage, it's a shop for magic items. Basically, it's what you choose to make it. That's the advantage of the modular system, as it is so versatile.

Heck, if anyone knows how to combine the sets, it's you, L! Your pics tell the tale, and they tell it well.

At the rate this stuff is proliferating, I may wind up retiring the Armorcst buildings and just using MBS & expanders!
I mean, WHY should I haul around all those little resin houses and buildings, when I can grab a stack of DF boxes and set up whatever building I need, interior/exterior, AS I NEED IT?

Hmmm...

That's exactly how I feel, man. I saw a whole line of Conflix buildings at a local hobby place a few months ago, and I was really tempted at first. Then I just thought "why store all these buildings somewhere, when I can just make whatever I want from DF?"

Of course, then they had a sale, so I had to pick up just one. he he he

If I had the funds and the space, I'd probably be tempted to have some complete building miniatures for outdoor scenes, and then when the party moved indoors I'd put the buildings on the shelf and break out the DF. Sure, there'd be some problems with scale, but so what?

Funds and space NOT being limitless (or even plentiful), I agree that DF is the way to go.

I have both teh MBA buildings and now the DF MBS sets. I believe that I will be using both but DF more often than the other. I will be using the MBA buildings when I need to do an outdoor scene or a scattered village. Anything that would take place in a crowded city street will be DF.

Well, there's no denying that a complete building is faster and easier -- that's why I got the Conflix, on sale. To do a proper building in just DF, you have to get a lot of pieces stacked just right, and make a roof for them.. it's a lot of effort. A lot easier to just pull a building off a shelf.

But it's a trade-off. That easy building will only ever be that exact building. I can use these elements to make any number of great setups.

So, yeah, I allow myself the occasional building. But it wouldn't make any sense for me to go too far into that -- just no room.

Actually, I'm probably going to go with buildings for outdoor stuff, and MBS, etc., for indoor fun 'n' games - such as barroom brawls, resupply visits to the general store, diva dalliances, etc.
Chasing orks down dark alleys will still be reserved for the ArmorCast and assorted others. Not to mention departures for parts unknown, seeking fame and fortune.
Y'know, stupid adventurer stuff.

I think that's the best mix of what to use when. Because having spent as much time and money as I have on those little buildings, I am NOT letting them get away from me without a fight!

But I probably won't be buying any more, regardless of source.

See ya!

I just set up a small village with 20 or so MBA buildings (yes, I forgot to take pictures!) and it went very well. We did the inside of the Inn set-up in DF on a side table..worked perfect!

Harneloot, Jim

That's my present siuation as well.

Although I like to include completed buildings as they tend to make town setups somewhat faster.

That being said DF has many significant advatages and I prefer using it for detailing interiors and for constructing those "unique" buildings throughout the town as well.

Yep, I look at the set-ups in two ways ... Street-scapes and Interiors.

My armorcast buildings work great for the exterior, full town set-ups ... perfect for quickly plopping down whole towns with fountain squares, alleys, etc ...

And then I use the MBS for the interior, situation, encounter-specific set-ups. Yes, there is a scale discrepancy between Armorcast and the MBS but we are working in a "fantasy" environment and I just attribute the difference from exterior to interior to the "Tardis Factor" ;)

Certain laws of physics and spatial dynamics are always bent or broken in a game (any game) ...
