Ygorl,

Thank you so much for understanding my crazed ranting! A week of the Flu bug will do that to you...

FreeWilly needs a sample! I'll try to search him out, if anyone talks to him please let him know that we need his mailing address:)

Thanks again Ygorl for being so kool and supportive!

And Thanks to everyone else here, your comments watered my eyes actually...my Wife said: "I understand your feeling, because you ahre proud!" She has the cutest accent, ha,ha!

I promise you guys, as always, we will not cut corners or compromise in making the best products we can possibly make especially because I know it's appreciated...by a thoughtful and demanding bunch as well......even if we're all a little geeky too eh?

You guys have given me an added step in my walk...the walk to my work table...or loft actually, which is where I make "de stuff"

Just finishing up our taxes this week...you guys would howl with PAIN if you knew the size of the pie that Bush is getting from us...money that could be making new pieces....ha,ha!

Thanks everyone! You are my brothers!

(and some sisters too, says Mari)

YYYYaaaaaaa!!!!!!

Dude!!! Free Willy? Damn I know the wife's been complaining about the few extra pounds but I didn't realize it was THAT bad! I'm gonna go slink away to the gym now....

"Slink" or "Roll" ??? I know where you're coming from and feel your pain ;) My wife got me a bike for my birthday ... not so subtle on her part. It will either get me in shape or kill me ... either way she benefits (buff hubby or buff insurance payoff :D

Just think, Willy; if it weren't for the C-O-L-D rivers up there in Canada, you could just swim a few hours a day!

Sorry, guy; I just HAD to do that! Nothing personal!

I know that alot of us DF fanatics that live outside of the US have to pay alot for shipping, but we just have to buy less for now, and it just makes us appreciate the 1 or 2 sets that we CAN get per order more. Unfortunately, we all got bills to pay.

i didn't read through this whole kitten caboodle but here's what i do...

i live in vancouver and have found that befriending an american(for me a resident of washington state) whose home can serve as a staging ground for pick up saves me a boatload of money. i travel a lot, and so do a lot of my friends too, so i sometimes get the stuff right away, sometimes don't.

if you live anywhere near the border, which most of our population do, it could definitely be an option...

and what better excuse to tell the customs official that you were down playing role-playing games with friends to avoid paying duty...

I guess I have no problem since your not getting a discount from us....in the old days it was quite a problem with people undercutting us, but now that we don't have distributors that doesn't really happen like it used to... I am sure that there are some people out there buying extra DOE sets in order to sell them later on...not sure how I feel about that...as long as it doesn't get to the point of scalping...

That's good to hear. I've sorta been toying with the idea of making a feeble effort to join the ranks of Yansolo and Gramlot, doing a few custom pieces to sell.

I was thinking, if I ordered a set and then did some doctoring to every piece in the set, and then sold them as individuals, I could keep a few for myself, and use the rest to pay for the set. That way I'd essentially be getting free pieces to mess up and experiment on for my collection. And if for some reason I made a few extra bucks, that wouldn't be too shabby either.

The problem, of course, is that I'm nowhere near as talented as those guys. I also don't have nearly as many resources - little mirrors, gemstones, etc. to put in place. And I don't have a dremmel. And I am not good with one. Even if I wanted to practice, the cost of buying one, even a cheap one, would make the whole enterprise kinda moot -- if I have to spend more money to start it up, then I won't be making any money to pay for the set, and then that would just mean I'm spending more money. And as my wife would be happy to point out, I spend quite enough already. ;)

So I don't know. I suppose I could give it a shot. The DoE seems like a natural -- for one thing, I could make an extra blood pit and try to sell it, that seemed popular. And I could keep some of the pillars for myself, maybe paint the tops purple for a more symmetrical look. I'm not sure I could do anything worthwhile to the regular dungeon pieces, not without Yansolo's or Gramlot's modeling skills. I could try selling HA accessories for things, like special stairs for the MBS (like the ones in my MBS pics) or different floor ideas.

But I don't know. On the one hand, I don't think I'm talented enough to make any money this way. And that would mean I would just be buying extra DF for myself, which I'm sure is fine with DF, but I already have all I can afford and store (that is, until new sets come out). And on the other hand, if I somehow DID make money, then I'd feel like a scalper, I'd feel bad. But I suppose that's the whole point of an auction -- if someone wants to give me $25 for my custom blood pit, I suppose that's up to them. If nobody wants to pay me, then it won't sell, and I haven't taken advantage of anyone.

It probably won't ever happen. Laziness coupled with lack of resolve rarely leads to industry. But hearing this talk of selling DF on a secondary market just got me thinking about this stuff...

L -

A Dremel Stylus (small, lightweight, lithium battery) set - with several bits - costs less than $75 at Lowe's. It WILL pay for itself real fast if you use it regularly. Go buy it, and alibi it to Mrs. L. any way you can figure out!
Once you have it, take a resin anything and practice using the Dremel to G-E-N-T-L-Y remove SMALL amounts of plastic from the item. Better yet, use an old Styrene Plastic model or kit - because styrene melts very fast under a Dremel; once you get good with that, you can move up to Resin. Styrene should not be worked at a faster speed than 1000-2000 RPM. resin can handle up to 5K. Also, when grinding/cutting/sanding resin, WEAR A DUST MAST!!!! I do NOT plan to drive to the funeral in a few years; that dust is NOT toxic, but it WILL screw up your lungs VERY FAST! It's like this COPD problem people are reporting on TV.
When you are comfortable with your Dremel skills, THEN you can go to work on DF pieces for sale. And, depending on what you do, I can buy them from you, and you can make MONEY from it - without making Stefan and Jeff all sideways and crazy!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Hey, if I hadn't had the guts to jump into PCs and stuff twenty-five years ago, I wouldn't be making what I make now; I'd still be playing rent-a-cop!
Just DON'T quit you day job until you sell your first $25K of custom DF and other stuff!

See ya!

L,

You got to plan for this sort of thing. Dremels make nice presents for wedding anniversaries. I know my wife bought me one a few years ago. As for not being as good as someone... You do not know. Just because someone has a few more pieces out there than you I would not put myself down. I often look at the same pics you do and say wow that person has talent. Which they/you do have. However my father once told me, "talent only gets you so far, experience will take you to the finish line" I would say get the dremel lined up, or borrow a neighbor's dremel and take a crack at some styro and/or one or 2 of your existing DF pieces. Good luck and post your creations.

PS One day I will get off my duff and do some customizations.
