As I am on a budget I can only afford small purchases at a time.

When I logged in to find out what 2 cavernous floor pieces were , the shipping was around $48.00.

I was told there are no Canadaian distributors left, anyone know of a retailer?

I live in B.C. but shipping in Canada has to be cheaper than DF!

I sent a couple emails to DF asking about where in Canada I can get it.

No replies.

I then phoned them and got a message saying they were on the phone, and I had to call back!

I couldn't even leave a message.

Steve , if your reading this help us out here.

Maybe you should set up a seller on ebay?

I wouldn't mind paying a bit more to cover your fees if it got me what I wanted , but $48 for shipping is a bit much.

Then I could use my paypal account :) and my wife would never know how much I spent!!!!

Thanks for your time guys.

Please reply if you know of a store in Canada that still has it.

I am not a DF employee, but I can tell you that DF does not use a distributor to direct retailers, not even in the US. Their business is, for now, entirely based on internet orders. Direct retail would drive the base cost per set into areas that DF feels would be prohibitive to too many customers, so they cut out two steps in the sales chain to keep customer costs down.

Sadly, shipping costs (and international fees and duties) are what they are, in Canada and every other country.

If you live close enough to the border, and have a friend on the US side, you might be able to have orders shipped to a US address and pick them up there. I don't know, however, what the policy is on bringing merchandise across the border, and I do not under any circumstance recommend breaking the laws of Canada.

But it is a pity, that DF do not answer by mail. I am a new customer from germany and i write DF two mails and there is no reply coming. The support is very bad, sorry DF, that could be better. Apparently DF have enough money and do not need any new customer. :-(

Hello All,

I am not a DF employee but this past week in the US there were a few conventions. I am not sure if DF participates but if they do they could have been busy with those. I phoned in the past and have used there web portal contact us link and always have gotten a reply albeit maybe not the same day but within 1 day.

Hi guys;

I know this sounds like a cop-out covering for the DF gang, but there has bee nsome REALLY ROTTEN WEATHER in the MidWest this past two weeks at least, and I would not be at all surprised if Snail mail is sitting in a ost Office looking for a postman crazy enough to drive one of their crappy letter-carrier vans on ice!
E-mails and Phone calls, I have no explanation.

Just a thought, and I could be wrong.

To be fair DF is never going to be a cheap item to ship due to the weight and size of the product. I know from bitter experience e-baying how much shipping costs on large items mount up on larger items. And that's to say nothing of the challenge of getting it through the letter box!

(Okay I admit I'm being silly about the letter box, but the shipping point is valid!)

You can't honestly believe it costs $46.25 to ship one cavern floor tile to Canada?
I have had large cartons ( 1 CUBIC foot ) shipped to me for $12.00.
So $46.25 for a floor tile is a bit much, and that is EXACTLY how much the checkout says shipping is.

How much is it for you guys in the states to have a $10.00 cavern floor tile delivered to you?
I am just curious.

I recently ( just this morning ) found a guy in Canada who has a store that will ship any orders over $160.00 CDN free!
His cavern set retails for 163.00 CDN. ( about 147.00 US)

A cavernous set from DF costs

$129.00

Shipping:
$70.60

TOTAL:
$199.60

And thats in US funds not CDN!

I don't want to sound like a conspiracy nut but , something is wrong with this picture.

How many of you would pay $199.60 US for a cavernous set? when a store will sell the same thing for 147.00 US?

If I am just ranting and crazy let me know and I will shut up.
But IF you see my point, also let me know.

ygorl,
I have to admit, coming from Australia, one of the things that hurts me the most with regards to DF collecting is the major cost of shipping.

All items I purchase from DF costs me double what the Americans are paying for the item. One price for the item, and then double that for the postage. I'll be the first to admit, it bloody well hurts when it comes to buying from DF.

I, personally have decided that the cost is worthwhile as I do enjoy DF products and have made the sacrifice to purchase the item. Whenever I can, I try to decrease the postage cost by making larger orders so that the impact on shipping is decreased somewhat. It still hurts when one looks at the shipping cost, but at least per item, it is not as big an impact.

However, on saying all this, I have to admit, the money spent on shipping would in my opinion be better spent on more product rather than on shipping charges.

I know many other non-US customers have probably harped on about this before me and many will probably do so after, but is there any way of decreasing this cost, every little bit counts.

I know I personally would be happy for the items to take a little longer to arrive, and save that little more so I can spend up more on DF products.

At the moment, about the only way I am getting round this is to try to purchase off places like Ebay, where items can occasionaly go for less than DF cost price. I know other forum members have suggested we should all try to support the company. And where I can, I admit, that would be my personal preference as well. But from a totally selfish point of view, I have to recuperate shipping costs somehow.

Jeff, Stefan, please don't take this the wrong way. I personally love your products and would heartily spend more on DF products if I could. But is there any way of decreasing the shipping costs? Different courier services? Economy services? Something....anything? :) Please?

On a differnt note, I have sent Jeff two emails 'recently' as in January and never actualy got a reply as well. Not sure what that could be due to? Have sent a note with my pre-order and never got a reply to that either. Jeff?

Bear in mind that international shipping isn't JUST the cost of the shipping itself, it's also whatever customs and tariffs have been imposed by your own countries. Frequently, that's a major portion of that figure.

I sent a car seat to friends in Vancouver when they announced that they were expecting their first child, and then had to send them MORE THAN THE COST OF THE SEAT so they could get it out of customs.

So the problem isn't DF. And it isn't (entirely) the shipping companies. It's the border fees, whatever your nation calls them.

Actually, from my point of view, there are no custom duties etc

At the moment, the price that DF lists on their webpage is just shipping charges plain and simple.

From Australia's point of view, customs duties/tariffs, etc (whatever the country of choice wants to call it), is only charged at the point of entry into the country and is a charge separate from what DF lists on their website. I assume that is the case for other countries as well, as DF does not know every individual countries taxation law.

Hence, the complaint I myself am voicing here is one of shipping charges, plain and simple. Granted, should import duties come into play, DF material would most definitely become a major problem. THis is another hindrance when it comes into play when dealing with large orders. FOr Aus, we seem to be lucky. Anything under $ 1000 does not attract a duty charge. But does become a barrier when it comes to larger orders. However, it appears that at that level of ordering, we seem to break DF's shipping calculator anyway :) Have tried :)

So, back to the original post, it is shipping charges that is a major problem for me...........

Mind you, not to be too confrontational, I do still purchase from DF, as evidenced from my largish order for the upcoming releases. :)

It's a gripe, I know, but if it could be resolved, would make it so much better an experience dealing with DF :)
