I was a little bit lukewarm yesterday - couldn't really decide if the molds are great or not. But I agree - there are some pretty nifty uses. Here is another thought - use them for small islands, cliffs together with the lake set.

Off course it helps to have lots of water for that. Would be great to test it out that way with all my wall-tile water - that allows for a 1 square meter lake ;-) Just ideal to add some moveable features

I really like those cavern pieces!

If they sold those as pre-made pieces in durable resin (or dental plaster) I would buy a few sets in an instant.

Perhaps if DF doesn't end up making a CWA Set in the next year or so, I will most likely go this route instead. My caverns do need some accessories after all.

It's great to know they're available if needs be, I'm just hoping to avoid the time/effort involved in casting etc. -if at all possible.

One nice thing about the cavern molds -- it looks like they only need one cast, maybe two, to give you some great new toys.

With almost every other mold, getting anything useful requires at LEAST 10-20 castings. Unless you buy several molds, or make your own, that is. You're getting 6-7 bricks in a single cast. You need 100 to make anything recognizable. Etc. It gets exhausting -- some of my more elaborate creations, I literally had to spend DAYS casting. Just entire days of my life, hanging out in my apt, casting for like 7 hour stretches. Ugh.

So with these cavern molds, it is REALLY appealing to me that the molds produce everything you need to make a neat rock formation in just ONE cast. Sure, if you wanted to do an entire labyrinth with them, it would take many castings. But we already have our DF caves, so it really wouldn't take more than 5 casts to give us tons of cool stuff.

(downside: fewer castings means proportionately more expensive accessories. if you only make 5 of these things, they've cost you about $7 each... if you make 35 of them, they've only cost $1 each...)

Wow - way cool. As usual he did a great job. However it shows how difficult it is to pull off caverns like DF has done. At this point in time I can see the Hirst pieces being used to supplement DF (very well) or for fairly small gaming setups but I can't imagine (easily) doing anything on the order of what I can do with the DF pieces i have - large complex and fully contained cavern setups...with water even! heh. Still - if I had more time - I'd be purchasing the Hirst cavern molds and casting away...perhaps one day...

There is one guy over at the HA forum who did a great-looking Mustafar display using the cavern floor mold, I can see using the cavern molds to make different environments for the regular DF cavern. Combining DF and HA could in turn mean getting a LOT of DF wall sections and corner pieces in order to surround the home-made pieces!

If you want them already cast - try Castle Kits:

stores.castlekits.com/Categories.bok?category=PRE-CAST+PIECES+BY+SET

I checked it out - they already have the new mold on offer. Just $2 for one mold. Yes - you need to add shipping - nothing what makes sense to get plaster to be shipped to the UK - but for US customers surely an option.

Thanks for the link Thod, that's awesome!

Steve.

BTW,

I still really want to see a CWE Set.
