You can find pics on the page in the online store that show what can be done with one set. It's a great deal, actually -- a large-ish setup with three good sized rooms, or one very large room with some smaller storage-style rooms off to the side.

It's a lot of pieces -- if you look through my MBS pics in the Cool Photos thread, that was all done with only two MBS sets.

I only have one set. It's enough to make the ground floor of an inn, or something like that. I'd certainly like more than one set but 'beggars can't be choosers' - and if I bought everything DF makes that I'd 'like', I would be a beggar... ;)

We've used my one set a fair bit already - it's pretty flexible, and there are enough pieces to make some nice setups. It comes is a single layer box, but whoever designed the packaging had their brain in gear - it's all fitted in very neatly, and much more efficiently than earlier sets - there's a lot more in the box than you'd expect.

Medieval Buildings Set, Caverns x2, Cavernous Passages, Room and Passage, Deluxe Room, Octagonal Room, Narrow Passages, Advanced Builder, Wicked Additions I, Wicked Additions II, Traps I, Traps II, lots of individual pieces. I want Cavernous Rivers, and Cavernous Lakes, and Cavernous Ledges. Can you tell that I like caverns?

Don't be bound by boxes. It is entirely possible and completely acceptable to combine different sets in a single building.

A cottage might be beam-and-plaster at one end, and stone at the other. The store-room of an inn might be stone, to keep food and drink cool. Castles might have stonework facing outward, but beam-and-plaster facing inward (around the courtyard). And I think I posted about real-world "troglodyte architecture", where a structure is built into the side of a stone cliff or mountain.

Your single MBS can be used in conjunction with other DF sets to expand your options.

Good point Jack. Actually I was surprised by just how much was included in one set and what could be built...particualrly with your hybird approach...still have yet to have time to really do up anything though - just watched the kids make some setups and was impressed...
