Cavernous Walls - Request For 7 Years, 12 Months ago
Jeff & Stefan,

Any news about a Cavernous Walls package or packages? With multiple lake sets I sure do need more stand-alone walls. I was thinking of packs of 4, 6, or 8, as price and demand dictate. You could either make sets all curved and all straight or a combination. I'm sure you've already thought about this. Just hoping to hear your thoughts.

I would also like to voice a request for shorter walls. I may have to take a picture to show what I mean, however, I'll give it a try. For instance, in one setup I did today, I wanted to use a curved lake piece, the one with a river-like drainoff. I wanted the river portion to disappear into the darkness. I used a curved wall for the curved side. I then used a stalagtite archway for the smaller river end. The problem with this is that both the curved wall and archway were meant to use the entire width of the piece. So, with the wall in place, I had to put one leg of the archway in the water and the other end of the archway had to be slanted in stead of straight across as I had another wall on the next piece and the archway wanted to take up that space since it was displaces on the curved wall side. In any case, the result is a sloppy-looking archway placed at an angle in the water instead of on land or at least straight across. I love the pieces and possibilities. Just wondering if there will be "shorter" or less wide versions of things like archways and walls so that more than one archway or wall, be it curved or straight, could be placed on the same 4x4 piece. Another instance where this would come in handy is with placing two straight walls on a curved lake piece. I was really looking forward to doing this so that I could use the land behind the lake instead of using a curved wall which would be right up against the waterline. Well, of course two straight walls won't fit on 4x4 curved water piece at the outside edges because both walls will want to use the far corner. A shorter length wall would, however, fit in the desired smaller space.

Thanks for information on future items. I really want to get my hands on extra walls - without having to spend another $140 for another river set. ;) River sets are nice, but it's easier to sneak in a $20 purchase than a $140 purchase. Thanks guys!

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

I second this request.

A stand-alone Cavernous Walls set would be really nice. I did a large setup recently that I posted about and it was sorely missing walls. I had to keep moving things around to accomodate each photo I shot for my story.

As far as price threshold, I think I could go anywhere from $20 (unlikely for a decent set) to $59.99.

Actually if i ever finish my review of the set, the one thing i was going to say was a disapointment about it was that you couldn't get the walls seperatly. One of, if not the single most usefull item out of the set was the walls becuase of the simple utility they have in expanding your set ups. I know in the last few games i have run (before a lot of the Caverns came back in stock) i was using HA floor tiles and many of the wall sections from Cavernous Rivers to expand a set i really like, with more options.

Last night i was able to get a few more Cavernous bits when the order i placed for MBS came in, but darn i want MORE walls, more floors, etc. The free standing walls just give you so many options for multiple levels etc that i would buy a number if they were avibale in singles or packs of 4...

Jeff,

That shaking you feel in the floor is me jumping up and down hollering "Me Too! Me Too! Me Too!"

More Walls, and Short Walls, will GREATLY enhance both the usefulness of ALL the cavern sets, and sales of them.

Just a comment from me.

See ya!

I did notice that the arches have to be placed in very particular places -- and I also noticed the number one place where you want to put them and can't -- as one wall in a corner piece with another straight wall. That was poorly worded. ;) But you can't have two single walls forming a 90 degree corner -- you have to use the curved wall for corners. That's fine, but it means you can't use the arch in a corner, and it's kinda neat and I'd kinda like to do that.

I imagine it'd be tricky, not to mention possibly a poor seller, to make essentially the same walls but a tiny bit smaller just for this purpose. BUT I'd love to see a new corner wall, one with an arch in it to accomodate a river or just a cave mouth.

You know, generic walls would be useful as well. I could see a specialty wall set that would have cavern walls and other exotics like flame, water, air, earth, etc.

I vote for short walls too...but in my case I mean walls half as tall, creating points where one can see over but not easily get to, or places for combat cover.... and just to help break up the flatness of the cave...

I would like to get quite a few of the wall sections myself as I like to stack my cavern walls two-high in most places to give some indication of cavern ceiling height.

Thanks for the good idea. Maybe we can do something for the Spring.

NOTE: you can turn the stalagtites upside down -- thus turning them into stalagmites...I think...or is it the other way around. It looks pretty cool that way...kind of a half wall.

Always remember that t*ts are usually hanging down and you will never ever forget about stalagtites and stalagmites...

Or just remember the look of the letter "M" and you know what are stalagmites.

You are correct, Jeff, about which is a stalactite and which is a stalacmite.

sta-lac-tite

–noun a deposit, usually of calcium carbonate, shaped like an icicle, hanging from the roof of a cave or the like, and formed by the dripping of percolating calcareous water.

sta-lag-mite

–noun a deposit, usually of calcium carbonate, more or less resembling an inverted stalactite, formed on the floor of a cave or the like by the dripping of percolating calcareous water.

The easy way my wife had me remember it is thusly:
a Stalactite (I also thought it was a g insted of a c) hangs Tight (tite) to the ceiling.
a Stalagmite Might (mite) reach the ceiling (eventually).

Wolfgang and John both have excellent ways to remember which goes where; it all depends on your individual sense of humor.
