Yay! I got my three sets and promptly dragged out all my cavern sets (which nearly doubled in number thanks to the Rivers set) and put together a setup. I hope to post some pictures tonight.

One thing that struck me is that there are LOTS of walls, more even than it seemed I would ever need. Then I thought about it, and realized that the lake set has no walls at all, so if you look at the two sets as one big uber-set, the number of walls is nigh perfect.

Also, in case you haven't done it yet, flip the bridge over. There's two logs from the moat passage in the traps set forming the basis of the bridge, and on one of them is a little something Stefan added that just makes you go "awwww...how sweet." I won't spoil it, but forum regulars will know the meaning immediately.

Stefan, Jeff, and everyone involved, congratulations and thank you for this amazing set!

IT'S HERE!!!

IT's here it's here it's here it's here!

I have been barely able to BREATHE! I have been maintaining complete radio silence over here, afraid to jinx anything, afraid to MOVE!

I GOT EM!!!

My two sets arrived just now, and I have to say -- for anyone who might be wondering -- I did not order them both at the same time, but they came together! Go, DF!

And my initial thoughts --

the walls are so CLEVER! you look at all the height variation and stalagmites and you think "geez, I hope the wall can go there" and it ALWAYS CAN! Very cleverly designed to be effective and still look "caverny", i.e. not straight and smooth

the bridge is so much SMALLER than I expected! Did one early pic show two together or something? It's narrow! It's adorable! It is so cute and mini, I love it. I am glad I have two, I was afraid the second would go to waste because they'd be so huge.

This is stellar stuff. Be prepared for an ONSLAUGHT of pics starting tonight. Long weekend coming up, lots of activities, but I will FIND THE TIME to post stuff. Man o man o man!

Yukon--that's brilliant. Simply brilliant. I was in such a rush to look things over and snap some quick pics that I didn't get a chance to really, really thoroughly inspect everything (as you obviously did!). You found the "Easter Egg" of the set!

Methinks that somewhere in the Disney Pirates of the Caribbean ride, there are some sculptor's initials scrawled underneath a bridge... heh heh ;-}~

I remembered a little later about that, and I checked for it too -- fantastic! Awwwww!

Seriously, a lot of us have been saying for ages that this set would be legendary -- it absolutely will be. This is the pinnacle of Dwarven Forge -- the last piece of the puzzle. (well, that may be yet to be seen, in August...)

I am so glad I ordered two sets. One is nice, and that's largely what I was playing aroudn with at first, but two gives you so much MORE!

I've got so many pics to post later it is sickening. This stuff is so photogenic!

There are going to have to be two distinct categories. Layouts, which would be simple overhead "map" shots that show off hte various combos we come up with and the kinds of rivers and islands that show up. And also "atmosphere" shots, which are my personal fave, because pics taken from minis'-eye-view on the water looking out at the vast expanse .. . it just gives me goosebumps!

Dante has some FANTASTIC shots like that in his post above, and I hope mine come out half as good. This set is going to keep me busy for a lloooooong time....

I just quoted that because I could. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of the Pirates ride when he started setting these up. The whole time the song was running through my head.

"We're villains and black sheep and really bad eggs!
Drink up, me hearties, yo HO!"

After the River and Walls sets arrived, my wife and I had to watch Pirates of the Caribbean last night. Gads, what a fun romp, and watching Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow was terrific. And Geoffrey Rush was superb (as always) as Barbarossa.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!

I am starting toget really jealous that lots of people seem to be getting their sets and mine don't even appear to have left the warehouse yet. Any updates on how far they are getting through the orders? And I still have to wait until it gets all the way to Australia (I'm guessing 3-5 days by airmail) and then hope I don't get charged tax or packaged opened up for inspection by customs, both of which would delay delivery (and the first costs me money too)

One thing that struck me is that there are LOTS of walls, more even than it seemed I would ever need. Then I thought about it, and realized that the lake set has no walls at all, so if you look at the two sets as one big uber-set, the number of walls is nigh perfect.
This is a little of a worry for me as I bought only 1 river but 3 Lakes (I was going to go 2 lakes but the extra open water pushed me over the edge) I am hoping my lake doesn't feel too naked lacking walls.

Thoughts based upon Dante's pictures:
First picture (of the boxes): Laughed. Dante was sharing his anticipation with us. I felt the anticipation as I stared at those two huge boxes. Btw, that was my second impression, that the two boxes looked huge. The laughter was in the sharing of an experience.
I lost my original post (laptop froze), so I'm going by memory from a few days ago.
Second picture (showing a decent layout quickly thrown together): Way cool dead end waterfall. I guess I'd call it more of a trickle, but I still see many uses for it.
Awesome detail, even in a photograph. That's pretty cool.
The skull totems looked scary and in good detail.

I don't comprehend what Stefan was talking about about not painting the sides, but perhaps I'll figure it out when I have my own sets in front of me.
I'm sure I'm going to wish I had ordered five of these instead of three. ;)

Oh...my only other thought was regarding the dark (black?) whirlpool. I think it might be good as an add-on, something to lay on top of a water piece. That way, you can use it, or not, as you choose. I'll have to see it in person for more informed opinion.

In all, an excellent and well-thought-out job.

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

Okay...Someone asked for times of purchase to guage how far along the order process they are.

I had my orders mixed up. It was the Lake order that I had postponed buying.

I bought the Cavernous Rivers & Walls sets within four hours of them going on sale.

Purchase time: 3:44 PM 3/15/06

So...either they aren't done with the first four hours yet, they skipped around a bit, or because I have more items on it than just the CR&W set, it's being put on hold for a bit. Everything on the order says "back in stock June 1st," but again, perhaps they are trying to ship first the CR&W-only orders. Who knows.

This is what I am worried has happened. I was going to order a river and a Den of Evil, but the Den of Evil sold out before I had the money saved. To make a decent sized order (the only way to minimise the high postage costs for us outside North America) I ordered a whole pile of individual pieces that were in stock or coming at the same time as the river.

What I think will likely happen is they will do the simpler orders of just river sets first, then move onto river sets with other basic sets, then onto people like me with "difficult" orders last. as JKW says "Who knows." But that's probably how I would do it if I was sending out the order to maximise getting out the most orders as fast as possible.
