Well I received an e-mail today for the River set. There was much rejoicing. I just hope the other order I made of pieces and parts will be sent out soon as well. And Origins is this Thursday... I am happy to be doing my part to support DF.

Getting my Cavernous Rivers and Walls on Wednesday, whoo hoo! Oh, and my Tavern Set pours Mountain Dew, not beer. Mmmm.... Dew.....

It's been a good day, and a good week. The in-laws were with us this weekend, and we had a great time. I just finished the last of the rhubarb pie my mother-in-law baked for me (yum!), and some of the beef tri-tip that I barbecued for them (marinated in Chaka's MMM Sauce, no less!). That, and I have a loving wife and two adorable kitties to keep me amused, so what's not to be happy about?

That, and I killed another mole in my yard. Nearly a perfect day, I'd say. :D

With a little luck I'll catch the driver tomorrow. I rechecked the UPS site and it said that my package is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Problem is, our neighborhood driver is a total wuss. The guy comes up, rings the bell, waits for about a breath, and then bolts back off to his truck. Hell, even with my ability to bound up the stairs in two leaps from my basement office I still can never catch this guy. It's frustrating. I hope it's not "signature required".

If the sets arrive tomorrow I'll post pics!

Dante, I know your frustration. Our rural mail carrier out here won't even ring the doorbell to deliver a package, even when it's overnight delivery. Twice I paid out the nose for overnight, only to find she'd dropped off a notice in our mailbox as she drove off. UPS used to drive me crazy back in California with playing tag, so I had all my shipments sent to my work, where there was always someone in the office.

Keep strong, brother, and soldier on. Your sets will arrive.

I requested Dwarven Forge to send me my package so that it is not signature required, as otherwise it is just about impossible for me to receive anything from UPS. I work during all hours when UPS delivers, and during all hours when one can pick up a package from the UPS headquarters (and the headquarters are in a different city, very hard to get to for me). In other words, if a signature is required to receive a UPS package, it will end up going back to the sender, because I'd have to take a vacation day off work to receive the package, and right now I don't have any vacation days to take (nor would I want to use up a vacation day just to receive a package, even a Dwarven Forge package).

Most of the time we have the same FedEx driver (the last four out of five deliveries). I work from home so I can usually catch him. It's funny because I always miss him the first day, then I know to really listen for him the next day and he always says, "Oh, I'm glad you were home today." I always want to say, "Yeah, it's a good thing I work from home unlike everyone else, eh? I wonder how they get THEIR packages." I know I shouldn't because it's snarky but it kills me when you have to drive to the depot to pick up a package that contains a replacement mouse or something like that. We should be able to simply leave a signature and be responsible for it from that point. Let them leave the package, says I! ::getting out the torches and pitchforks:: ha ha

O.k.--here are some quick shots of 1 Cavernous River Set: http://www.purgatorio.com/gameroom/gameroom2006/dwarven_forge/

I didn't put much thought into laying out the pieces--I was so freaking totally amazed at how beautiful the pieces were. It took me a few seconds to figure out how the walls sit on top of the floor pieces but after that everything worked out fine. You definitely need at least two of these sets to make a nice river setup in your cavern layout.

Stefan, I've been gaming, scratch building terrain, painting miniatures, and collecting FRPG terrain and accessories for 26 years now and I think that I can honestly say that these are the most beautifully crafted gaming enhancements I've ever seen.

The way the walls are interchangeable is absolutely brilliant. The depth perception that the resin creates is amazing. Look at how "deep" the river looks in this dead end piece...

The little swimming fish in each corner piece was a master stroke. I had seen these in the original pics posted but forgot about them. Even now I didn't notice them till I was looking at the pics I snapped! I had to go back and pick up the actual corner piece to look at them!

The broken door "boat" is really cool. What a clever idea to add that in!

The bridge is great too. I'll get a lot of use out of it for sure!

Thanks so much, you guys, for putting this set together. I can't wait to build this out with the Lakes set!

Thanks so much Dante for your kind words!!

I am dying to get my sets from our shipper....you got yours before me:) But now I am heading to Ohio for Origins tommorow so I will get to play with them there before I get my own back in NYC after I get back...I am particularily happy with the way the edges of the water create a "see-through" edge...at the last minute I asked the factory not to paint the sides of all the pieces so that one could see the water from the slim side edge...I think it looks better that way then in the protoypes we took so many pictures of...so your pieces are basically even better versions of the ones in the newsletter we sent out...

Another "workbench" note to all: You might want to get some tacky stuff, (various kinds are sold in art stores or stationary stores) to put under the "feet" of the stalactite arches (and perhaps some of the movable walls) in order to help them stay firmly in place. This method worked great on our prototypes, use only a tiny bit of putty.

ENJOY!!!
