Dear Dwarven people,

Quick question. Have you ever considered selling unpainted peices? (For less $$ natch) I am the kinda guy who would want to paint stuff myself, even if it was already painted.

Just wondering.

CRI -

Forget it, many of us have already tried.
Stefan says he paints his stuff HIS way, and he wants it to stay that way.
Artists do NOT like people taking PERMANENT liberties with the quality of their work, and while he seems sure that most of us will take proper care of his babies, it only takes one jack@$$ to mess up Stefan's, and DF's, reputation for quality. Which, I'm sure you will agree, is well-deserved.

So no, don't look for DF to come unpainted, not as long as Stefan and Jeff have any control.

However, have you looked at overcoating? I did a test, using a spare piece, and it works.

First, put a solid coat of clear semi-gloss on the entire piece. That seals ALL the piece so it can't get any staining in it.
Second, use a tempera-type water-based paint, so it can be washed off after use. Brush it on however you want and let it dry as normally.
Third, go play with it.
Fourth, when the game is over, or whenever you don't need the piece painted that weird color, pick up your old toothbrush, your Dawn or Palmolive dish detergent, and give the piece a bath; scrub well. Dry it and put a pristine DF piece back in the styrofoam case.

And that way, you can make each DF piece do the work of - however many colors you need! if you want cutom-mixed colors, you can do that, both by mixing them before painting, or by multi-layered brushwork. And it still cleans up with Dawn and a good scrubbrush!

See ya!

It occurs to me, there should be a FAQ somewhere. That question comes up pretty often, and it's reasonable.

I'd suggest a FAQ for the main site, some questions that spring to mind would be:

1. Why don't you/would you consider selling unpainted pieces?
2. Why can't I/would you let me buy pieces X, Y, Z as singles?
3. Do you take requests? or Why don't you make ____?
4. Why is set X out of stock?
5. How durable are these pieces?

There are probably others worth putting up, as well.

I understand why unpainted pieces aren't available, but I have to admit, I'd love to get my hands on a few, especially if it saved me a couple of bucks at the same time.

Dream away folks. but Dwarven Forge has been very honest with us here on the Forums about their policy concerning unpainted and flawed pieces.

Jim's aforementioned idea actually works for those of you who want changeable Master Maze.
