There is no link to add to cart. I also don't see a (available june 10th) type note either. Are they done already?

I sure hope that they're not totally done. I was just about to order four of them to go with the one I do already have. :(

How bout it, is it just out of stock from the latest shipment with more on the way, or are all 1500 sold?

Well I hope to get an answer back on this relatively soon. If they are completely done with the 1500 already Im just going to use my DOE money and buy some Hirst Arts molds and make my own dungeons. Seems a real shame the business direction DF is going.

The whole point of DF for me had always been I can buy what I want, when I want it, and use it right out of the box. With all the out of stock issues, limited runs, lack of West Coast Gen Con support, and new online only ordering DF is not the "convenient" alternative to Hirst Arts it has always been. I can't go down to my local game store and pick up product anymore.

Don't get me wrong I love the stuff, but it's not like it's ever been cheap and I was OK with that due to the convenience. I've spent thousands of dollars over the years on DF product, but in the last year since the new business changes have only spent maybe a hundred and that was because my local store still had a few small sets left.

I meant to get a DOE set when they first came out, but I wasn't quick enough to get in on the first shipment. Then I figured I could pick one or two up at Gen Con (Anaheim) wrong again DF didnt go last year. Now I log on to buy a set and low and belhold they are not available. Then I look on Ebay and the prices are doubled. So in effect unless I am one of the hardcore guys on these boards that check back here all the time, I pretty much get hosed. I want to support a business that makes such great products but doesn't my (the customer's) time, convenience count for anything? There is an old saying in business. Good, Fast, Cheap.....pick two. Well DF now only has 1 out of the 3 (Good). Seems like a bad way to do business.

Limited runs just mean some customers get screwed and OTHER people profit from selling these sets online.

Last time I checked (a few days ago), they had 9 left in stock. As I recall from earlier posts, there was one "last" shipment due on June.

War Duke,

Sorry for the inconvenience...it has been a difficult year for us in terms of keeping all our core lines in stock. Please believe me, changing our business model was necessary in order to stay in business for a variety of reasons (too complex and long winded to get into here, again)

The good news for people who enjoy our products is that now we are back on our feet and doing quite well. In the past, we were only able to come out with something new once a year...now we have quadroupled that rate. In June, we will be restocked on many items currently sold out as well as getting in our latest creation, the Cavernous Rivers and Walls Set.
In August we will be restocking yet again and releasing another 2 brand new ULTRA kool sets...While I realize that it is no longer possible to go down to your local game store and pick up a few sets...and it is a bummer... it should be possible to order on-line from us and get what you want fairly easily with just a small bit of planning. I understand change is not always easy. Being a tiny company, we have done what we had to in order to stay alive...here is my suggestion:
If you subscribe to our newsletter you will recieve e-mails letting you know when our latest products our coming out.
We offer special deals and incentives for pre-ordering all the latest creations. Pre-ordering is the best way to get the most bang for your buck. No fears because as always we gurantee complete satisfaction on all of our products or your money back.
Even on Limited Run or Limited Edition items we have seen a window of oppurtunity for buying these items of many months, making them fairly easy to pick up with only a little bit of planning. The Limited Edition Den of Evil is still not completely sold out.
This coming convention season (our 10th anniversary) we are stepping up our convention presence and will also attend Gen Con So Cal where we hope to introduce yet another brand new Dwarven Forge Set: Den of Evil, Evil additions...
Other additions to our business model (which would not have been possible before) include the much heralded Forum section which allows our fans from all over the world to share their creativity and express their views without interfereance from us (except for the few rare instances where things have gotten totally out of hand), heck we even allow forumites to post pics of other competing products on our pages!
And finaly, a Phone Number has also been added so one can call us up directly (during normal business hours) and talk directly to the head geek of operations (aka: Jeff Martin)

Well, we are still not perfect, but we have tried our best with limited resources to keep afloat around bigger ships in a pond without much stability...

I hope I have addressed some of your concerns, please feel free to call Jeff directly at 618-549-7100 (on Monday) If your interested in a Den of Evil Set or if you have any other questions or concerns please call. We really do appreciate your business throughout these years and hope to be able to continue to provide you with the finest in gaming products for years to come.

Sincerely,

Stefan and Mari.

Stefan, thanks for the quick response. I didn't mean to sound too harsh regarding your business model. I know you guys are small and doing what it takes to survive in a highly specialized market. I'll be honest I am still not real keen on the pre-order system, but I do appreciate the incredible work you do, and the fact that you repsonded personally in such a timely fashion.

I'll give you guys a call tommorow and spend some money (save a DoE for me...hehe). As you suggested I will also subsrcibe to the newsletter and try to keep up with the changes you guys will innevitably go through. Im really glad you'll be going to Gen Con (So Cal) and I'll definitely introduce myself to you when I see you. I met you once, year before last when I bought 6 or 7 sets from you at the show, and you gave me a good deal :). Once again thanks for the reply, and keep up the good work.

War Duke,

Thanks go to you!

I really appreciate your ability to understand our side of the problem. It is a tough industry! We are after all, a niche of a niche...and believe me, I can see your point of view and why you would be frustrated by your difficulty in getting the DOE or any other of our products, 2005 was very difficult, your concerns are totally understandable, we will continue trying to improve, and to stay in stock...some of it was just bad timing/luck I think.
I am sure Jeff will be able to help you out tommorow and I look forward to seeing you either at Origins, Gen Con or Gen Con SoCal. It should be a great convention season for Dwarven Forge and our patrons.

Once again, Thank you for your kind understanding. You could have just as easily written us off... but instead, entirely to your credit you are giving us another chance and taking my advice. Of course, I don't want to let you or anyone else down.

Sincere thanks! and Good Gaming!

Stefan and Mari.

Was I wrong in thinking a "third" shipment of DOE was supposed to be arriving in June (as posted way back when)?

Just curious.

Personally, 2 DOE Room and Passage sets are plenty (for now). They are great, but not as useful as I'd like. I think we need a DOE Deluxe Room set (with more Room pieces) for the Room and Passage set to be more useful. I tried using my two and wasn't able to make much (sniff, sniff) in the way of rooms. No bashing intended. I appreciate the workmanship, creativity, and quality that went into DOE R&P.

As for eBay: That one person on ebay has been trying to sell that DOE R&P set for $200.00 for months. It keeps getting re-listed. The item was up for sale at that price when DF still had 100+ in stock. Some people will try to sell anything and some people will buy anything.

Hm....show, deal? Just curious, as always. I know you guys thrive right now on the pre-orders, but if convention sales have better deals... If there are special sales/deals at Gen Con, will they be comparable to what is on-line? Thanks for the info. Personally, I think I'd rather pre-order and have my items delivered to the house. That way, I don't have to worry about who is going to do what in a room shared by four strangers and a pile of DF stuff and I don't have to put them in my car and hope that no one breaks in during the 7 days I'm going to be down there.

Didn't mean to open a can of worms with the "deal" comment. From my recollection I got a pretty good deal because Gen Con SoCal was such a long haul for Stefan and crew. They weren't overly enthused about hauling back all the product they had with them across the country. I only had intentions of gettting a set or two but stocked up a little bit (I think I bought 7) becuase they gave me a pretty good price.

From what I read in another thread I don't think they are bringing much inventory to So Cal this year for that exact reason, so my best guess is the days of quantity deals may be gone. Please correct me if I am wrong Stefan.

I don't go to the other shows because the Anaheim Covention Center is a 15 minute drive from my house. As far as Gen Con Indy goes or Orgins, am I missing out? How much bigger (better) are those shows?

Duke -

I dunno about YOU, but in 27 years of Shore Leave, plus ClipperCon/FanOut/OctoberTrek/Farpoint, plus 25 years of Balticon, I'VE always gone for the PEOPLE, and for the GAMING. Dealers Room usually is an afterthought.
I always thought that, with the exception of finding NEW victims (excuse me, that should be gamers, not victims), just networking with lots of fellow fans (I started out as a Trekker, sorry) was the best reason to go to conventions. Travel, hotel, restaurant, parking? BIG HASSLE.
BUT!
Meeting those OTHER weirdies was worth it. And for me, that's always been the best reason to go to cons.
It's why I'M going to GenCon Indy; Sandy (the best part of my life) and I have never been to a GenCon, I haven't been to Indianapolis since 1972, and having harangued SO MANY people here in the DF Forum, I have GOT to meet these folks.
But I have to admit, I expect to drag my impoverished butt away from the DF booth with LOTS of goodies and VERY FEW DOLLARS left! I plan to borrow the collapsible hand truck from work for the weekend.
We went to Origins here in Baltimore way back in '92, and while I was not NEARLY as much into gaming then, it was still a pretty good gig. Had I signed up in advance for games there, it would have been even better. Since I did not, I didn't really get into any good games - the pickup games that year, I heard later, were pretty lame by comparison to past conventions. Baltimore isn't the best gaming town in the world.

See ya!
