Until then, anybody got painting tips for making regular bases blend with DF floors?

Jack -

For Fantasy, with round black bases, oval-spot them with gray and medium brown.
For Square Sci-Fi, use a dark metallic silver.
Beyond that, I dunno.

See ya!

Hi guys -
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread ...

Ghengis and BlackHawk, I'm in Enfield (near the MA. border). My hobby-to-time ratio is, sadly, skewed these days so I rarely have time to "come out and play" (let alone play at home). I hate to commit to a regular game / group that I'd have to miss more often than not. But, an occassional adventure is not out of the question :)

As far as the bases go ... my point was that they could be easily done without much distraction to take Stefan away from the "bigger and better" goodies that he and Jeff have been teasing us with of late (I would quickly pass on the bases if they meant a delay to the DOE WA set). They could be a method to inject quick and repeated cash into the works and, as I mentioned, would probably appeal to the miniatures enthusiasts as well. Yes, there are many bases out there, but how many come pre-painted?

I also agree that various sizes and shapes would be a great thing. I, for one, wouldn't mind adapting my collection of miniatures to be uniformly based. That way, my pre-painted D&D Large Red Dragon would look right at home in the Caverns next to my self-painted GW Skaven (rat-men for those who don't know). I'd pre-order a S#*t-load, which, as we all know, is the equivalent of four (4) crap-loads :)

Anyway, just a few thoughts ...

What about our hosts? What do you think Stefan and Jeff ?

I'm not sure it would be worth it or cost effective to do bases in resin...plastic or metal is really the best solution because you can make them thin and they would be really cheap to manufacture AFTER making an initial mold. Perhaps this is something another company should do? I wouldn't mind if Reaper did some bases in pewter that matched our sci-fi, cavern, DOE and flagstone stuff, also in larger sizes for big creatures...I suppose you guys would still have to paint them, but matching the floor color isn't too difficult...perhaps I will talk with Reaper at Gen Con about that...we could make a deal with them perhaps...

I hope you don't mind Stefan, I copied your reply over to the Reaper boards.

I love the idea.

Hi Stefan -

Thanks for your perspective. That's a great idea about partnering with Reaper !! Didn't they recently do a joint venture with Fenryll or Grendel for some pre-painted tavern terrain ? (or have I finally succumbed to all the primer, paint and resin fumes :) )

I really have to try to get to Gen Con and meet you guys !!

Also on the Mass Border, a little further east but Enfield is very drivable (infact i hit the mall and a card/comic shop there semi regularly) only about 30 minutes. Ususally hit the Time Machine in Manchester for my F(L)GS (now that i think about it wonder if Blackhawk1 is the other person who buys the alumilite from there)

Maybe the guys at Micro Art Studios could do them. They already do a fabulous line of cast resin bases, and they've been selling pre-painted bases on eBay.

I've used their round shale bases to very good effect.
