DF,

Would you consider including some cavernous formations that may (possibly) be modified (by DF users/collectors) into water filled pieces as well. I will explain the reason for this and suggest some possible pieces below.

My first note is that I am NOT suggesting unfinished pieces at all. These would be fully painted pieces designed for use in Cavern setups. I am only suggesting that some of these pieces may be designed with a dual purpose in mind, as were the Cavernous Wall pieces in the upcoming CR&W set. The reasons for this request are as follows...

1) I suggest this with the notion that, perhaps the manufacturing of water /resin-filled DF pieces with flowing, cascading or swirling effects (ie: non-flat) may be too complex and, or expensive to manufacture.
If, (and I emphasize the word IF) this is the case, then this option may be the only way to allow DF customers the opportunity to have such pieces that are of genuine DF design/make.

2) Mutiple sets would be required by some collectors and thus, should sell well. Mutiple sets would be required to make the modified pieces and have them for their primary purpose as well.

3) This would also fit in well with some previous suggestions for Cavern WA pieces.
Some of these pieces (consisting of previous suggestions made by others) that may be so modified are:

An elevated (and stackable) cave opening. (May be "converted" into a cascading waterfall).

A sloping, bottomless pit. (May be "converted" into a whirlpool).

The large, connected stalagmite formation. (This may even be "converted" into a large, wide waterfall with a passageway underneath). Yes I'm starting to think of uses for all of the upcoming "delta" pieces, (3/set).

These pieces along with other pieces (previously suggested by others) such as the Cavernous stairway, stalactite pillars, downward passage piece and chasm pieces would make for an awesome CWA set.

As the new sets are being developed in a fast and furious way -(see CL set), I figured it would be wise to make this suggestion now, rather than later (ie: BEFORE a CWA has been developed).

I offer this suggestion in this forum as DF markets itself as a pre-painted ready-to-use terrain product and therefore would not be expected to develop any products with user modifications in mind.
Please note: I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT DF PRODUCE ANYTHING THAT IS NOT READY FOR USE, only something that is easily customizable.

It would be interesting to hear if there are such manufacturing challenges involved with "free-form" resin casting.
Personally I would prefer DF to be able to make such pieces completely, considering how well the (flat) river pieces seem to have worked. That being said, if it's not feasable to add the resin for such pieces at the factory, I for one would like to have suitable Cavern pieces so that I may merely"add water" to them if required.

Any DF or user thoughts/feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing that "matching" the existing river & lake resins at home would be quite a challenge.

I would love a cavernous WA set however.

Fenryll makes an attractive waterfall piece (www.ulgaard.homeip.net/Gorgone_EN/Fenryll/Fenryll.asp) called "La Cascade". It is a painted piece, not a resin-water piece, but it DOES feature water issuing from and falling down a rock face into an enclosed rock pool.

Barring the production (at home or by DF) various specialty pieces, I would suggest laying down printed transparencies on your lake pieces. You can graphically represent whirlpools, currents, ripples, whitecaps, oil slicks, and even shadowy forms in the water, all without re-doing your DF pieces.

blairgb,

I noticed DF has mentioned they are using "clear" resin for the river, (and presumably for the CL set as well).

That being said, I would plan to use either clear resin or one of the many artifical/natural water products available for creating MRW (Railway) setups. I would most likely decide nearer the time, depending upon the surface texture (hard or rubbery surface etc) and ease of use, along with recommendations from people more experienced in that area than I am.

As for re-painting a base (as in a whirlpool piece) I myself, would just attempt to match the existing colour scheme of the CR or CL pieces that I will have in my possession by that time.

Thanks for the link.

And that idea about the use of transparencies...brilliant! It creates so many new possibilities.

Regarding waterfalls, I'm still hoping to be able to modify some DF rock/cavern pieces though - if at all possible.

This all sounds like a great idea. I personally would also like some alternate strait and curve wall so when making huge rooms they are not so repetitive. Anything would be welcome. I went into dept again and ordered 3 River sets along with a Beta and Cavern set...! Oye...! So more cavern stuff would be Awesome!!!

Well the other thing that these pieces would be good for are cavernous lava pieces. I some how think though that may be a future set.

Yes, that is a good possibility and I imagine it would not take as much time as a completely new set. Just alter the cave a little and make the water some kind of lava. Nice. I would of coarse buy into it.
