As far as the surprise goes...Stefan pointed out that I worded that very poorly. We will have a new surprise set available at Gen Con for purchase as a present to our collectors. The set will not be a free gift...sorry!
So, is the surprise set the one you've been talking about all long, the mystery set that's been mentioned before, or is this a new set in addition to the mystery set?

The river pieces look awesome. The walls are genius, and will allow many possibilities with previous cavern sets. Can't wait to get these. Where on the website do we preorder?

Yes, it's the same one.

Will this surprise set only be available for GenCon attendees? This is my "off" year (went last year, won't go again till next year)...

Regarding the special: The discount only applies after you buy three sets...but it works for every set after that -- which is basically $13.33 off set. Our shopping cart software was not able to fully handle the special as noted originally. Also, the discount is just automatically taken off in the shopping cart once you hit the shopping cart.

Now I'm not sure I understand. If I preorder 3 sets of Cavernous River and Walls today, do I get $40 off the total price of the order ($139 x 3 = $417; minus $40 for grand total of $377 plus shipping)?

That is correct, but you have to use the coupon code "40" to receive the $40 off.

We will be premiering a new set at Gen Con Indy, and it will be available for purchase there. After that, we will put it on the website and allow people to buy it online. So if you cannot make Gen Con Indy -- no worries as you only have to wait a few days before you can order it too.

Note, that it will be IN STOCK and ready to ship immediately! Yahoo!

Wow, no sooner do we see the River set, but we also find out that the Lake set is due soon and another set will be due just around the corner! Twofer!

Well, here are my thoughts about the CR set:

1. Price -- not too bad! The original cavern set was $120, so this is really comparable as far as I'm concerned. I was fearing MUCH worse. Still, I could only afford one now. With so much time before it shows, I see myself ordering another before June 15th anyway (if they haven't sold out!) but I couldn't bear to pay it all at once, especially three full months (if all goes well!) before I actually get the stuff.

2. Set contents: VERY cool. I think I see why the walls are removeable now -- otherwise, you'd have had to choose between river-on-a-floor-piece and river-on-a-wall-piece and the resulting options would be FAR fewer. You would either always have to have rivers going through the middle of a room, or NEVER. With the cavern floor pieces being so LARGE, it would require a HUGE setup, and LOTS of pieces, to do a river in the middle, and to do a river on the edge would look odd if you wanted it in a big cavern. So this really was a necessary move.

3. The pics look GREAT. I love seeing how many options are available not only in the rivers themselves, but also with the moveable walls. Weren't we just talking about narrow cavernous passages? ASKED AND ANSWERED my friends.

4. Man, I think if it is possible I may want three of these. The possibilities are so outrageous -- not only can you create all sorts of rivers, but by default you can make all kinds of funky cavernous ISLANDS. Heck, you could make a table for Pirates of the Spanish Main (etc) with this set! I really am going to want to make lots of islands.

5. I'm already thinking of possible add-ons for future expansion sets. Right off the top of my head, I see that sometimes the river seems to just STOP - even if more cavern pieces were around, you get only one dead-end per set, so without an even number of sets.... So I'm thinking there needs to be an add-on piece to explain where it came from/went to. A waterfall wall piece would be AMAZING, as would a whirlpool piece (which has been discussed before), or even a piece that has the river disappearing UNDER a wall, into a chasm or something (the same way the floor-piece-stairs element "hints" at a descent that doesn't happen physically, a kind of fissure in a wall into which the river could disappear...)

This set is truly amazing, and well worth the wait. I'm planning on posting a full, elaborate review, with tons of pictures, when mine arrives, and I'm going to see about posting one online elsewhere, too, to drum up interest in this set among other collectors (esp. Heroclix type collectors).

Stefan, you guys should get a special feature in Dragon for this set, it really deserves it.

Just saw the pics in the newsletter and they look fantastic! The new pieces really work well with the cavern set, and the moveable walls are a great idea.

Unfortunately, I think this set will be out of my price range :(

I took the plunge into the Cavernous Rivers (pardon the pun) and bought three sets. Though the total price was a bit painful, I think $139 is a decent price for a set, not too much over prior sets. And it looks so awesome in the pictures that I'm hoping the price will be well worth it in terms of quality. I was definetely planning to get two. I feel a bit guilty about getting a third one, but with a $40 discount, it was hard to pass up. Of course, the real pain to my wallet is yet to be fully realized, when I have to order multiples of the Lakes set and whatever mystery set DF has in store for us at GenCon.

I'm really wondering about set 2 -- it took a LOT of willpower to remove the extra from my shopping cart, but money is really tight for me right now.

In the next month or two, I may very seriously consider getting another set. But there IS the lake set AND the mystery set to look forward to, and I know I'll want to save space and money for those. The lake set in particular, that one is REALLY going to grab me. Since I imagine I'll frequently want to use it with the river set, I may rarely have ROOM for two river sets.

On the other hand, two river sets means two dead-end pieces. Muy useful, those. And two river sets means just so many more options -- another T-intersection, another X-intersection, a fourth curved section to make a complete lake.....
