International Wholesalers Question 8 Years, 2 Months ago
I have not been here for several months due to being busy with work, and have tried to catch up with this international orders discussion. Can I confirm one thing.

Are DF products still going to be available in stores in Europe? (In the case of the UK via the wholesaler, Esdevium Games).

If so, I am not too concerned, even though it is annoying to miss out on certain limited edition items. If however, the reference to finding a distributor means that DF have now burnt their bridges with Ezdevium as well as Gargoyle Games, I think there is a real problem.

Could Stefan or Jeff kindly clarify if, in future, we are talking about DF products only being available direct from DF, or whether this is simply a direct ordering issue, and the mainstream availability via hobby shops in Europe in unaffected?

Thanks

I would also appreciate to get some more information about the international distribution question (especially to europe/germany). While I almost decided to accept the hight costs to get at least one of the remaining DoE Sets, it would be very nice to know if we'll have to pay approximately double the real price for the extraordinary gorgeous Cavernous River & Walls set by importing it from the US, or if there is any chance to get them at a 'normal' price from. Not to speak about any future release like the Cavernous River and whatsoever might follow.

If there will be no solution soon, the high costs may be stopping me from buying any further DF Master Maze stuff, because even addiction can not justify the costs.

We have had talks with Esdevium to get our stuff into the UK, but right now we just don't have enough of an inventory built up to think about wholesaling it out again. We have to sell a LOT of product to equal what we make in profit directly to consumers, so we are loathe right now to deplete our inventories on such low profit margins. Perhaps next year we will be in a position to offer a good number of sets to Esdevium. Much depends on what happens through the rest of 2006.

I can tell you that going to the direct market has been great for us. We are going to release FIVE sets in 2006 -- which is more than double the previous record.

I am sorry that everyone overseas has to pay the big shipping charges, but right now there is no other way. We don't make a dime off of the shipping, so I wish there was another way. Perhaps next year we can convince Esdevium to buy a big shipment. Keep your fingers crossed!

Well, at least this is a statement one can calculate with: Me for myself will probably decide next month if I am willing to take the pain in the a.., eh.., bank account ;-) to preorder the Cavernous River & Walls. It may also depend on how my current 'experiment' with the DoE sets and some Diagonal 1/2 Floor Tiles will work.

I think the worst thing with the shipping costs is that they not only have a relatively high base value, but also seem to be strongly coupled with the weight. So it becomes completely senseles to buy smaller items alone, e.g. just a set of Diagonal 1/2 Floor Tiles at $8 will add $54.25 for shipping. But there is also only a limited positive effect on the costs when buying multiple bigger sets (me usually take two), e.g. 1 Cavernous River & Walls Set $139.00 + shipping $97.05 (~+70%), 2 sets $278.00 + shipping $137.50 (~+50%), 5 sets $695.00 + shipping $258.95 (~+37%). In this case more than 5 sets is not possible, because there seem to be an upper limit (on weight?) as well. People trying to organize order bundlig here should consider that, since the possibility to reduce the shipping costs is limited when ordered via the DF shop. So if you really want to organise something effective you might have to setup a special deal with DF and become something like a 'temporary emergency distributor'.

At least one good thing currently is the relatively weak $ /strong €. Bad are in fact the taxes in germany (16% now, 19% from 2007) but one would have to pay them on the product anyway, even with a local disributor.
I am also kind of strained what the customs topic will turn out in my 'DoE order experiment', hoping that the 'Gesellschaftspiele' declaration thing mentioned in the forum here will work ;-)

So let's hope the Esdevium deal or something similar will work next year.
I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Thanks for the welcome.
That remembers me how long I am using this nick name.
It was at a time when almost everyone used names like 'Luke' 'Maverick', etc. ...
So I decided: Ok, when everybody uses film heros names so let's take the *anti-hero* from Spaceballs ;-)

LoneStarr,

I have also noted the weight limit on international shipments, -(recently I had to split a large order with the larger of the two costing me just over $175 US alone) so I have a rough idea of what you're talking about.

DF,

Might I suggest a possible compromise that would allow DF to assist international customers while maintaining the wider profit margin of direct sales, at least for the forseeable future.
Would it be possible for DF to absorb the cost of the $20 processing surcharge (required for the processing of international shipping documentation etc) that is being built-in to the calculated shipping costs (if I understand the present situation correctly). If this is not the case, please let me know.

Please don't misinterperet this as a complaint as I am quite pleased with the shipping options presently available, the above comment being intended only a suggestion.
