Hello DF administration. I am having trouble registering. When I register, it shows different countries to choose from, it does not show Japan. Does this mean that you will not ship to Japan?
Thank you

Ok guys, so now you have repaired that problem with the country list, but now when I try to register, it gives me an error mesage that says "be sure your zip code has 5 digits". Japanese zip codes have 7 digits. Please repair this so I can order from you guys instead of having to order from EBAY. My Japan zip code is 247-0056 (in case you need an example) This is a headache. Am I the only human who wants to order DF from Japan....I would appreciate your quick response to this error. Thank you very much!

The forum is great for talking to others that own and use Master Maze, but the best way to contact Jeff Martin and the guys at Dwarven Forge is through direct email. Jeff is very good about answering emails and direct queries.

Try emailing Jeff Martin at dwarvenforgestuff@gmail.com

Stefan,
No problem. Thanks for your quick response. I mostly wanted to check how much shipping would be to Japan. As I have several DF sets that I bought from Ebay, I have a pretty good idea about how much shipping will cost. It is quite expensive to ship to Japan, but it is worth every penny. Congratulations to you and your wife! My girlfriend is Japanese too. Japanese women are the best!!

Cheers!

Dungeoneer,

Might I suggest grouping/ordering multiple sets/items when placing an international order.

The shipping costs/set will be far less than ordering them on a one-by-one basis.

I think it might be a good thing to post this type of question/request here on the forums. It allows other international customers to see the answers (or know that action has been taken), and it might prompt other people who have ordering difficulties (or possible solutions to them) to post.

For example:

Dungeoneer wants to get items in Japan. DF is made in China. That means that Dungeoneer's purchases will be shipped from China to the US and then back to Japan. That's something like 12,000 miles to move something a net distance of, what, maybe 2,000 miles?

If Dungeoneer (and/or others) (pre)ordered an item that was not currently in stock, then is it possible to ship those particular items straight from China to Japan?

Not only would it save shipping costs (twice!), it might allow DF to actually increase the size of an order. If the big shipping container holds 1,000 boxes (arbitrary number) of DF sets, then they could still order 1,005 sets without going over the maximum capacity, because five of those sets are going to Japan by local shipping. The customer saves money, and DF actually makes a little more money.

This might not work. You might not be able to increase the size of an order by single (or even double) digit increments. There might be quality control issues that prevent DF sending a set straight to the customer from the factory. The manufacturer might not be willing or able to ship sets to end-use customers.

But it is an idea. And it wouldn't have occurred to me if I hadn't read Dungeoneer's post.

You are right Jack attack on both counts....yes, in theory it would be better of course...unfortuntely, the nature of our business does not allow it...our factories do not want to hassle themselves with such miniscule orders. As it is, we are already representing a tiny bit of business for them. Any order below a filled 20ft container is not worth bothering for them...unfortunately, that's the way it is.
If the order is in the 300-400 Set range, then we can do it for an extra handling fee...we have had discussions about such an order with groups within the UK but it seems that 300+ sets (paid up front) is out of most normal customers range, understandably so...

therefore, as crazy as it is, until we get hold of a European Distributor who will pay us up front, our products will continue to ride back and forth across the ocean...

Sigh.

Not to flog a deceased equine, but if the manufacturer in China is near a major city, there might be another option to consider. This doesn't address lot sizes, but it does help with the manufacturer's (un)willingness to send orders directly to "local" customers.

American (and other English-speaking) students go to China to learn Chinese. Some of them pay their way by doing odd jobs, including being teachers/childcare for other expatriate families, and teaching English to Chinese students.

You might be able to hire such a student to go to the manufacturer, pick up a hundred or more preorders, and ship them out to customers in Japan, Australia, perhaps even Europe. ("Pick up" might not even be literal -- they might be able to just pull the boxes on-site, put shipping instructions on them, and let the shipping company pick them up at the factory.)

Again, I don't know if this is a viable idea. You would probably be dealing with a different person each time, as students go home after a few months of "immersion" lessons. Since customers rarely coordinate their orders, some customers would be left out of the direct shipping effort. The manufacturer might not allow it. The costs of communicating with (and paying) the hired student might overrun the savings in shipping.

But it is a resource that DF might not have been aware of, and I thought I'd mention it.

It would seem like a reasonable idea JackAttack If we were talking about a distribution company in the USA, but mainland China is a different world...the situation at these factories is one where even arranging a less than minimum container load of 300 sets would be considered a huge hassle and disruption and in fact a "favour"which they would charge us extra for.....Please understand that from the factories point of view they just want everything to go as smoothly as possible in order to meet the deadlines from dozens of companies on a weekly basis...they will not consider such a situation with a student for a profit that amounts to peanuts to them...We should actually consider ourselves fortunate that we are able to negotiate such small orders time after time from such large operations half way around the world.......

Yes, let's not flog the dead horse, but thanks for the idea anyway, as it doesn't hurt (too much) to ask;)

Great! I am so Happy! I was able to register! I guess maybe Jeff read this thread, or someone at DF did, or maybe Stefan said something to Jeff. Thank you to the person that took care of this problem. Thank you...Thank you! I did not have time to email Jeff yet, so I was so excited to see that it was fixed.

Jackattack,
Thank you very much for sticking your neck out for us international DF maniacs! I appreciate it! Too bad there is nothing that can be done for now. But, thanks anyway .
