Hey From Several of the Other Posts it has Become Clear that there are a Few "Needs" (Read as Wants...<Grin>...) out there as Far as Reconfiguring of Older Pieces in "New" Sets Goes... So it Occured to Me that it would not Hurt to Ask about the Feasability of some Basic Core Sets being Put together with Existing Molds?

Such Examples might Include:

a- Small Room Set... Perhaps 3-4 Corners, 2-3, 2" Walls and maybe 2-3, 2" Floors...

b- Medium Room Set... 3-4 Corners, 1-2, 2" Walls, 1-2, 2" Floors and a 4x6 Floor...

c- Large Room Set... 3-4 Corners, 2, 2" Walls, 3, 6" Walls, 1, 2" Wall and 6x6 Floor...

This Idea Could Easily be Extended to Cavern and Sci-Fi Sets as Well... Now Before all of the Detractors Close in for the Kill, I Would like to Point out that this Might be a Nice Compromise between Making Individual Pieces Available (Which DF has already expressed as Being Difficult Both Financially and in terms of Storage/Warehousing) and Higher Priced Larger Sets... These Might Not Be as Useful to Newer Collectors, but it Would Go a long way towards "Fleshing out" an Existing Collection without Being Overwhelmed with Getting Bits and Pieces that might not be as Generally Useful as the Basic Room Concept?

Just a Thought that I Figured worth asking about?

Jim,

maj!!!

Were I To Seek too Public a Position within the Empire, it Might Well Leave me the More Open to Petty Dispute... No... I Choose to Work from a Place of Power Less Obvious, and Perhaps More Dangerous, as the Leader of the Voqna QelISQun chIrgh I have Access to Many Resources and Can Keep my Enemies Within Both Reach and Sight...

But to Them I Say... "nuHlIj DawIvpu', vaj yISuv!!!!"

As to this Idea about the "Room" Sets though, the Later Discussion that has Taken Place in another Thread (?) Has Led Stefan to Suggest what might be an Even Better Solution, which is the Manufacture of More Modular Rooms with Gaps in the Walls where Either Walls or Doors (Or Hopfully Other Kewlness like Fireplaces or Windows)? Might be Inserted/Dropped into Place... Either way, I Would Very Much like to be able to Purchase "Base" Room Sets of Some Sort...

Once I Got Past the "Wow" Factor of my First Couple of Sets, I Knew that Basic Room Shapes would be Very Much needed at some point... I Have Spent Quite a bit on Individual Pieces, I Sure would like to have more Options open...

I think you're on to something, MLV. I've been longing for some individual pieces ever since I got started with DF earlier this year. I picked up the Deluxe Room and Passage set from a local store, then ordered several smaller bits such as tables, alcoves, etc just to jazz it up a bit before using it in a game. It was a bit of a hassle having to build a couple of rooms at a time and then take them down to build the next area, but the effect the setup had on my players was phenomenal. I added a few more sets to my collection (even finding WAI and WAII at a buy one get one free sale!), and eventually realized that there just weren't enough corner pieces for my liking. By this time, they were sold out in the individual section of the site, so I figured I could wait a bit, I'd just pick up a set or two here and there. Now, with the possibility that there will be no more individual pieces, I find myself a bit panicky. I know there are a good number of us who for one reason or another just can't (or won't) afford to buy full sets for a handful of pieces that we actually need. Smaller sets, such as you have suggested, would not only make expanding our collections a bit more economically viable, but smaller, cheaper sets with the fancier packaging found on the sci-fi, starter and fantasy floor sets could also get more people into DF, meaning more money for DF and possibly more readily accessible pieces for us.

That is a good idea. We can always use more corner & room pieces. I got crazy and picked up a bunch of sets on eBay super cheap a few years ago so I wound up building up a "decent" supply of parts but I could *still* handle enough pieces for about a half-dozen more rooms at the very least.

I think it's a great idea. And even I don't think that it's bad for newbies. This way I could buy two medium room sets instead a room & passage set, or a large room set if I dont want passages at all. When I've bought individual pieces, I would have bought small room sets If they have existed. It would be great really, I've thought in it before, but I've supposed that the structure of the sets that DF make are the best for the bussiness... if not, then I'll sure vote for the sets you say MLV!!!

Damn!

I always KNEW Stefan was a smart dude...

Base rooms (if I understand correctly, similar to the Ogre's Den?) are a WONDERFUL IDEA!!!!!

Put me down for a dozen (you think I'm kidding, dontcha Jeff?), with a full set of accessories and wall dressings.

I'm gonna have FUN with this one.

AT this rate, I'll definitely have to go back to Shore Leave. Hey MLV, any chance you might get up here with the Fleet? I know IKF does some functions here, including the Klingon Jail and the Feast. Let me know, we can do a wild Dungeon/Cavern/DoE/SF maze layout...ReBob will go NUTS, so will all the geeks!!

See ya!

Jim,

Well the Discussion to Date was Suggesting a Product A Little Different than the Ogres Den, in that (Hopfully) it Would Be Considerably Larger For One, but Also the Rooms would be Much more "Generic" (My Word Not Stefans), and Where the Ogres Den had a Single Door way, these would have essentially 4 Door ways (One on Each Wall), these Door Ways/Gaps would have Wall Pieces which could be "Dropped" in to Close the Room off... So The Same Room Could have from 0-4 Doors...

Now the Advantage I Saw here was that the Idea could be taken a Step Further in that Themed Sets Could have Drop in Fireplaces, or Windows or Murals or What have you, maybe sold seperately?

****OFF TOPIC ALERT****

As to Shoreleave, I Have Not Made it up there for this Event yet, though I Have Heard that it is a Blast. Several of Our Club have Made it up in Years Past (Including Last Year actually)... And at Least One Fellow Klin on one of the other Forums I Haunt (Who I Think might be in Your General Area in Fact), Attends Regular like as well...

Also If You are into the Klingon Scene at all, you Might be Interested in the Klingon Summer Games that we Are Getting Ready to Host Here in Florida in April... (Follow the Link in my Sig for More Info)...

And By All Means if (And When), My Wife and I Make it up for Shoreleave at some Future Date, we Definately need to Get together for a Few Pints of Abbey Ale, and a Drop or Two of Blood Wine...<Grin>...

****WE NOW RETURN YOU TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED TOPIC****

Stefan had even Mentioned that he had thought about the Open Room Idea in the Past but that at the Time he Wanted to Make Sure that DF was VERY Modular... Which I think was a Good Idea... Now though I Think that DF has a Good Base to Work from, and Sets like this Could be Very Popular and Highly Useful...
