Rabid,

Yes True, we ended up with many extra Orcs and Skeletons for quite some time...and still have many in stock...but we did sell about 1000-1500 of each right away! We made a profit, just took very long.

The problem was that right after I made a big reorder based on huge quantities I had already sold to WOTC (a whole container!) they suddenly started to close most of their stores and never ordered again. Also at the same time other companies came out with really cheap plastic mini's and then also, 9/11 hit the country and also all that dot com crashing and scandle stuff...I think all that hit the whole industry hard.

Hindsight is 100% of course...at the time I thought DF would just grow amazingly every year...now I know better, and hopefully learn from these things.

I expected DOE to sell slower after the first 600 or so. That is part of the reason we spaced it out like we did and mixed in some re-stocks. So it seems to be working out as planned. I am sure we will sit on a few hundred next summer but that will give some new customers a chance to get some. We will not depend on them selling out right away to get us by. What we will depend on is selling out quickly on the Cavernous River, Lake, and new Sci-Fi Sets...

So then the sale of the first lot, the 600, was enough for DF to break even on the project Stefan?
That would be a good thing!
No money lost in this matter.

You are right Stefan that the bursting of the Dot.Com bubble and then 9/11 hurt the section of the economy that deals with discretionary income which Dwarven Forge is a part..
There is the beginning of a true comeback over four years later, but it is slow.

So that is what happened with the minis, eh?
Pre-painted minis never seem to be truly appreciated, and the DF line was never that broad any way.
I heard many criticisms about the molasses-pace of new releases for the line.

From what I have been told and learned, the purchase of WOTC by Hasbro is what killed the WOTC store business Stefan.
Now some folks can have another reason and/or an even large reason to dislike Hasbro.

When the modifications are made to the forum, would it be possible to have a section entitled 'Ask Rabidfox*'? That way, when we post suggestions for new products, Rabidfox* could study them first to see if they are worthy of consideration by Stefan and Jeff, and delete the ones he doesn't like. It would save a lot of argument!!

We will just keep the Forums the way they are currently structured. Thanks for your input.

And I appreciate everyone's patience here...

Anyone who feels that a member of this forum has been mistreated please voice your concern by never visiting us again. Many would appreciate it.

So gamers who want to buy Dwarven Forge product should then "shut up" and go elsewhere Law?
They cannot "put up" because there is almost nothing for them to buy!

I didn't even read the rest of this very long message -- no time, and besides, from the very start you've misinterpreted what I was saying.

By "put up or shut up" I meant -- join the conversation, or accept that your opinion won't play a role in determining what happens.

It's pretty simple, really. DF makes decisions that take into account what they see on these forums. Anyone and everyone is invited to join, and it's free. So anyone who chooses not to join is choosing not to have a vote on what gets done.

That's their own fault. If someone says "I have no interest in joining, the people there will only attack me and not listen to what I have to say," then my response is "So how is your opinion supposed to reach Stefan, Jeff, et al? Magic?" Stefan and Jeff have always been EXTREMELY friendly and accommodating. They've never been the root of ANY problem here.

It's not a perfect world. So this forum sometimes gets tense and people disagree. It's also the best way to get your opinion to DF about what gets done. Anyone who is full of opinions about what DF should do and does NOT join up has no choice but to accept the way things are. And what other option is there? Say you convince me otherwise -- what then? Magic, again, is my only thought. How on earth could the opinions of these people count? How could they be brought to the table? Even if I were inclined to think "YEah, I can see why someone wouldn't want to join," I still can't imagine how else to get their voice heard.

As for the rest, maybe when I'm less busy. This is a hobby, man. I got other things to do.

Ok, everyone. This is starting to get personal, so everyone take a deep breath, calm down, and keep the discussion related to issues and not personalities.

Also, for the record, I was the one who talked about restructuring the boards. I haven't been able to address that yet, partly because of my personal schedule (I moderate these boards on a volunteer basis) and partly because of the hack/board software change. It's still planned, but may not happen any time soon. However, any dropped-ball blame is on me, and not Jeff or Stefan.

I like the idea of a separate section for set/piece suggestions. Assuming that Jeff is okay with it, I'll add it to the list of eventual changes.

Thank you Moderator for coming forward on the forum issues as far as what is needed to be able to get ideas to Stefan & Jeff.
I am looking forward to the forum section for new ideas.
That should make the DF Forums have much more harmony.

You are right moderator; there are some definite personal attacks happening here that have strayed far from the issues and some persons have become fixated purely on the fact they have decided to protest against a poster rather than the post.
Some are getting quite descriptive in showing the poster's lack for something serious AND pertinent to say.
So . . . well . . ., let's not go there.

Everyone, enjoy your Master Maze!

"But that way we won't get caught in the snow right? Speaking of snow will the folks up north quite hoging it up? Can you send a few wispy inches this way?????
WW, be careful what you wish for!

RF!
I thought I took your soapbox away from you already; did you go out to the grocery store and snitch another one?
Bad Fox! Bad-bad-bad fox.
Oh, well.

Hey guys, c'mon, back off a little bit, okay?
Geez, it's starting to sound like the old alt.rec.games NG, with all the GW monsters they used to have!
WHOOF!
Look, all of you; going for each other's throats can be diverting fun, and it's great exercise jumping to conclusions, but it also does a GREAT job of messing up relations here on what is supposedly the most friendly forum in gaming!
Bottom line is, we ALL have differing opinions of what we want to see from DF; Lord knows what I'M looking for is different from what a lot of others here are after! BUT, we all want DF to succeed and prosper, because otherwise, we'll ALL have to go back to foamcore and plaster, or build from scratch with Bruce Hirst's wonderful creations (nice, but a LOT of work!).
Now, I don't object to scratchbuilding and customizing; most everyone here has seen or heard about some of my DF butchery (all in a good cause, Stefan! And you SAID I could, honest you did! - So long as I don't sell it). BUT, I'm a plastic model builder, so I'm comfortable with customizing; not everyone is.
Anyway, all I'm saying is, let's have a LITTLE more consideration here. And, I'm NOT just beating on WW and the Fox; they've just been the loudest ones TODAY!

Hey guys; dunno know what you celebrate this time of year, but I hope you all have a Happy one!

See ya!

I think medieval home interiors would work well if they were kept very "general" and the furnishings made available did all the "flavoring".

Happy Holidays to you too JK "The Mad Yank"!!
