I'm going to preface this post by saying that I have no affiliation with Dwarven Forge at all, and I'm putting this contest out there just for fun. There are no prizes, though the winner will surely have the people's ovation and fame forever.

That being said, we all have ideas for sets that we'd like to see Dwarven Forge make. We're all creative people and we all have great ideas, so why not share those ideas with the DF community and see which one gets the most response?

Here's the contest:

Design a Dwarven Forge set. The set should build upon one of the existing DF lines (Fantasy, Cavern or Sci-fi,) and contain main building pieces (floors, walls and the like. No sets with just accessories.) Describe the major piecs and how the set will be used. Submit your designs in this thread. Feel free to use descriptions, hand-drawn sketches, CAD drawings--whatever you have access to. It doesn't have to be professional. It just has to be original.

After a month or so, depending on the number of responses, I'll compile the entries and set up a poll where everyone can vote on the results.

Good luck and happy posting!

Sounds like a Good Idea To Me... Shall we Start a "Start" Date, and an "End" Date?

How about the end of February? Would that give everyone enough time?

Here's my entry:

CAVERN LEDGE SET

This set will build upon the cavern set by providing a second level where characters can stand, set up ambushes and the like. Each piece will be 4" x 4". At the top of the wall, another floor level will reach to the edge of the piece so that it can link to other ledge pieces, or floor pieces raised on a platform. Natural and carves stairs (which I haven't drawn in) would be built into the pieces, allowing characters access from one level to another. By using multiple sets and platforms (like the foam platforms I mentioned in the pictures section,) you can build up and up as far as you want, creating mountains and cavern walls with multiple levels for 3-D encounters.

The pieces in the set are:

Round Ledge
Inside Corner Ledge
Outside Corner Ledge
Bridge Ledge
Small Ledges
Straight Ledge
4x4 Ledge
4x4 Floor

The bridge ledge piece would be hollow underneath the ledge, allowing characters to pass beneath it (like in the Cavern Passage Set.) Pieces are shown in the attachment, with the raised (ledge) areas in light gray and the floor in darker gray.

The second image shows a sample layout, using multiple cavern ledge sets.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated. Let's see some more entries!

How about a hollow inverted box shape?

Ok... So this is Entry One for me... (I might add a Couple)...

A "Damaged" Fantasy Starter Set... Basically this set would many of the Pieces currently available in the Fantasy Starter Set, but in different Quantities... Also there would be a Couple of "Other" Distressed pieces as well...

Disclaimer, this Idea is one which has been discussed to one degree or another in various threads, by a Variety of posters... So it is not "Unique" as a concept, just fleshed out a little bit...

Also, I attempted to keep it Small enough that it might fit into the $49.00 format DF seems to be adopting... Though certainly there could be additional damaged pieces in Set 2 etc... I Only posted a few examples just to give the idea some visual support...

Damaged Fantasy Set 1 Includes:

(2) 2x2 Right angle Corners-a... These would have ragged edges and the Point where the walls meet would have a gap with rubble pouring into the center of the Floor...

(2) 2x2 Right angle Corners-b... These Wall pieces would have the Center point where the walls meet intact, but the Edges would be Ragged and crumbling... (Allowing them to match up to Crumbling straight walls on either side...

(1) 2x2 Right angle Corner-c... This piece would have an intact Wall edge along one side, An Intact Corner Point, and a Destroyed edge to match up with other destroyed pieces...

(1) 2x2 Right Angle Corner-d... This would be an inverted version of the 2x2 Right angle Corner-c...

(1) 2x2 Straight wall-a... This wall would be a "Half" wall, in that it would be mostly rubble, but each end would match up to other destroyed pieces...

(1) 2x2 Straight wall-b... This piece would be similar to the Staright wall above, except that it would have a Crumbling Center portion spilling debris into the floor, however each End would be intact...

(1) 2x2 Straight Wall-c... This wall would be intact along the "Left" edge, but destroyed on the Right Edge...

(1) 2x2 Straight wall-d... Obviously this would be an inversion of wall-c above.

(1) 2x6 Straight Wall-a... like the 2x2 Straight wall-a, This wall would be a "Half" wall, in that it would be mostly rubble, but each end would match up to other destroyed pieces...

(1) 2x6 Straight wall-b... like the 2x2 Straight wall-b, This piece would be similar to the Staright wall above, except that it would have a Crumbling Center portion spilling debris into the floor, however each End would be intact...

(1) Partially Destroyed Diagonal wall-a... One Edge would be rubble, the other Intact...

(1) Partially Destroyed Diagonal wall-b... One Edge would be rubble, the other Intact... (An inversion of Partially destroyed Diagonal wall-a above)...

(1) Damaged wide Attached door...

(2) Small, 1x1 debris piles...

(2) Medium, 1x2 debris piles...

(1) Large, 2x2 debris pile...

I Suppose that Could work... Though it might me heavy... Or maybe just have an irregular center column that would attach to a Standard looking floor piece?

So how would the 4x4 "Raised Ledge" (Tile with ALL light Grey), piece be Supported?

It would be a solid piece, possibly hollowed out on the bottom. A little heavy, yes, but 100% stable. It could have some interesting stuff sculpted into the sides for those who would use it as a stand-alone (rat warrens, skeletons, mineral veins and so forth.)

Hmmm... So if you used it to "Bridge" a section it would create sort of a Culdesac where the lower level could not be bypassed, so that you would have to "Climb" up the ledge right? Or I suppose your initial Idea would be to have it in the "Center" or as the Center tile at least, of several ledge pieces to make say an Outcropping that could extend into a larger cavern? That could make for some pretty Nifty Objective and Puzzle rooms... The Evil Cultist delivering their "Sermon" from the High point above the Cavern Floor... (Deja' IJTOD)... Kewl...

I think I'd like to see a crypt/catacombs set. Hallways, intersections and corners that look like they were tunneled through stone, with mysterious ledges, nooks and crannies. Various urns and other containers in some of the openings. Crumbling frescoes with mysterious images.

I did a quick web search for "catacombs" and came up with a picture that illustrates my idea.

If designed correctly, this set could be used with both the fantasy and sci fi lines - it would just depend on if the nooks and crannies contain undead skeletons and magical items, or alien eggs and lost technology.

The set would also be useful for people running Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider/Stargate type games. Also Gothic Horror/Vampire games.
