I Like the Idea of Rot Grub Being able to Go into a state of suspended animation... Like Those Fish that Dry up in the Mud in the Desert... Then When it Rains (Sometimes Years Later), many Of the Fish Who were in mud used to Make Bricks for the walls of Shacks reanimate as the Mud Bricks Absorbs Water... So For the Tomb, perhaps the Grub would have returned from above for the Cooler Darkness to Hibernate, Maybe they Like places like Mummified Chest Cavaties? Or... Oh What if the little Grub Spawn could Worm their way into unlikely places like Potion Bottles (Through the Cork, which would seal behind a small enough Critter), "Oh a Healing Potion! Woo-Hoo" ...<EFG>...

As to Monsters that Would be Kewl to See... Well... It Seems you Folks are on a Good Roll... The only "Suggestion" I might Make would be to Consider Concentrating at least to Some Degree on Creatures that are considered to be "Commons" in the D&D (Plastic), Miniature Line... Give everyone a Reason to have a Dozen Abyssal Maws? Or Lemure?

Making monsters for common miniatures is a good idea! Sean K. Reynolds' newest charity project, Hungry Little Monsters, is a collection of new monsters meant to be usable with existing miniatures. It's for a good cause & features the work of many top designers; check it out!

I've also started looking into making a Masters and Minions line of miniatures; it just seems a shame to have such beautifully detailed Master Maze layouts that precisely represent the lairs, but to have to use a sorta-close-if-you-squint figure to represent the new monsters!

The Hungry Little Monsters Site Looks like a Very Kewl Idea and bears further investigations...

As to Producing your Own Miniatures Line... Sounds Great... How would you Do it? Painted/ Unpainted... Pewter, Rubber-plastic, Hard-plastic, Resin? Have you looked into manufacturing Stuff already? A few years back I did some basic looking around for Miniature Manufacturers for a Game I have Been Working on (On/Off) for years... The results of my Inquiries were not encourageing...

I'm glad to announce that the Masters and Minions series is off to an early start. The PDF edition of Horde Book 1: A Swarm of Stirges is now available at RPGNow, days ahead of its official release date! The professionally printed books will be available at booth #1141 at Gen Con, or direct from Behemoth3 once we return from the con.

Probably pewter, initially unpainted but I'd like to set up a program of commissioning painters to do figures for those who (like myself) love painted figures but don't have time. We'll never match the inexpeniveness of the D&D pre-painted minis, but I know there are many many talented painters out there who might be happy to have some steady work & could give them the unique touch that automated paint jobs lack. There's been a good discussion of minis cost at the Game Publishers Association, a great resource for anyone who's thinking about making a game (which is just about all of us, no?)

Tav,

Congrats on Getting Stirges Out and Available ahead of Schedule (When Does that Ever Happen...<Smirk>...) I'll be ordering a Copy when they are Available from you Folks in Hard Copy...

As to Figures, it seems the Standard for Pre-painted Pewter averages about $5.00 per Fig... Do you expect these to be Comparable? Higher? Lower? I was Pretty Excited about EM4 Minis when they first Came out, And I Like that they are available in Several Genre' but I am not Sure how "Successful" they have Been... Which I Guess is Why I Have Fallen in Love with The D&D stuff even if it is Lower Quality, in this Case I am willing to make the Exception as my fairly modest Investment (in terms of Figures not in terms of Collecting), has already afforded me a wider variety of Monsters then I have previously ever owned... (And there is something Nifty about being suprised by which Figures I have Purchased... The Same Idea as Cracker Jax When I was a Kid and the Prizes were still kinda' Kewl...)...

The Point I guess is that I understand a Small Company Having to Choose very Carefully before investing in Product lines that may or may not work... And especially if there is competition from Folks Like WotC or Now Wiz Kids... Course Wiz Kids Defied the Odds and Probably Forced WotCs Hand...<Chuckle>... But when it Comes down to the Quality of a Photo Spread Made with WotC Plastic Verses say DF Resin... Well DF gets my Vote for Quality and Looks both... But Even they seem to be letting the Miniatures aspect Go... So I'll be watching to See What Kinds of Stuff you Folks are Up to and I Hope what Ever you Folks ultimatly do is as successful as possible for you... Keep us Posted...

I'm glad to say that moment has come! Our online store is up and running, so you can now order both of the first two books in the Masters and Minions series - A Swarm of Stirges and Maze of the Minotaur. As an extra bonus you get the PDF for free when you buy the hardcopy, so you can use it both as a reference at the gaming table and a resource on your computer.

The books should also be available to retailers next month; if you have a great local game store you want to support, ask them to pre-order enough copies to go around!

Folks who live overseas or like using a laptop when they DM can get just the PDFs from RPGNow, and if you decide you want the print edition later you can apply the full price of the PDF ($5) towards the purchase of the book.

Finally, the first reviews of the series have started to come in, from the pros at EN World as well as customers at RPGNow. The response has been very positive - you can get a feel for why by checking out the previews and demos here.

And, to keep this post somewhat on topic, check out the flier about using Masters and Minions with Dwarven Forge we created to hand out at Gen Con!
