I think this should be included in a next kit. Even maybe with a secret passage behind the waterfall.
It should be made so that it can connect both top and bottom to Cavernous river modules

Okay, let's take a closer look at this.

Assuming we are talking about a piece that is the width and height of a standard Cavernous River piece, the design isn't too very difficult.

The "wall" of this piece would be mostly vertical "falling" water, with stone on either side (but not necessarily behind). At the top, the stone bits would allow it to match up with any Cavernous River tile, and the Cavernous Lake to River Conversion that's got two little bits on two adjacent corners.

I don't favor the idea of some kind of "working" or mechanical secret passage or door. Waterfalls don't "swing open" to allow access, nor do they usually "turn off" to expose an opening, you duck under or through or behind the flowing water. If you want there to be a passageway behind the waterfall, put a Fantasy or Cavernous Passage behind it (after the party has made a successful Spot check). That's why I favor NOT putting wall behind the water -- at least the piece will be translucent, so you can kinda see a passage beyond. If there isn't a passage, put something behind it -- if you are stacking, you'll need something back there to support the upper level, and you wouldn't be able to see the secret passage through the floor of the upper level anyway.

The bottom is slightly problematic. You can EITHER have the tile part of the piece be the end of a Cavernous River straight piece, OR you can make it like the Cavernous Lake to River Conversion with the two little bits by the base of the waterfall. The first can widen out to a pool one piece later, or continue as a river; the second will require at least a small lake or pool at the bottom of the fall. Of course, there's no reason that a set couldn't include one of each variety.

Now, this is a very simple waterfall -- one piece wide, one piece tall. Personally, I favor having a waterfall that is only a couple of inches tall, as I don't stack and I don't think stacking over one tier high is a wise move under actual gaming conditions. If your particular drop is higher, just tell the players that one tier represents twenty feet, or a hundred, or whatever.

Although I don't need it, it is possible to make wider falls -- an underground Niagra is certainly possible. Just put the stone framing on one side of the fall on two complementary pieces (one on the right, one on the left), and create a piece that is all water (both on the tile, and on the vertical). Now you have a modular waterfall builder that can, in theory, make a waterfall of any width. It might be interesting to put small outcroppings to interrupt the falls, perhaps even large enough to hold a single mini.

Is that roughly what you had in mind?
Are there other thoughts on what a waterfall piece should look like?

I don't have it to hand, but if you fancy having a go at it yourself, there was a pretty cool idea in GW's Wargaming Terrain book, which involved using white nylon string/twine to fashion waterfalls. Basically you wrap the twine around card which provides the "backing", cut the bottom edge and spread them on to the base which you can then texture with filler & water effect. Using this method you can glue small rocks to the backing card tp break up the effect. When my budget can absorb the Cavernous River and Walls set, I may have a crack at it and post the results. Won't be 'til august though, at the earliest.

Some kind of Cavernous WA set might contain a piece like you describe Jackattack...

Actually, I'd love a Cavernous Water WA set as well as a normal Cavernous WA set!!!

I think there would need to be one of each, considering the wide range of pieces needed for both the Cavern and Water sets. Also Cavern collectors are not necessarily collectors of the Water (River and Lake) sets.

That being said, I see no reason why the requested/desired pieces could not be included in just one comprehensive WA Set for each of the two lines.

After all, setup tables are only so large.

And if someone who doesn't have water sets gets a couple of water-oriented pieces in a Caverns expansion, then he has a reason to buy a couple of water sets.
.
I am SUCH a b*st*rd!

I would also purchase an interesting waterfall element if it was included in the next set. I liked the idea of a secret cave behind the waterfall to. That would be great.

Just reposted them in my old thread of 1 1/2 year ago. You find them in the Cool Photo section. Would have to upload them first to post here - to much hassle at the moment.

Here is my first attempt at a waterfall, compatible with cavernous river. It's not totally finished, but it gives you an idea.
I used Hirst Art for the Rocks, and the water is made with clear silicon, with clear plastic strips for support. Vallejo Still water for the water in the botton. It does not come out as I though it would.
What do you think ?
